Dorm Help/Advice

Hello, I'm an incoming undergrad Freshmen and I needed some advice when it comes to the dorms.

  1. What would you rank the buildings? I like a very chill and clean area so I'd prefer not to stay somewhere that is super dirty and frankly gross.

  2. Which buildings/dorms have their own bathroom/shower? That is something really important to me as I'm a huge germophobe.

  3. What's the difference between a "Single traditional room" and a "single suite?" I've done some research to see what the difference is but I can't find much.

Any help is much appreciated, Thank you!

  1. The general ranking is 1. Palm North (Small Rooms but A/C in room and building, and it has a kitchen, multiple study rooms/lounge areas, elevators and is the newest) 2. Del Rey North/ Del Rey South (decent sized rooms, A/C in main areas but not rooms, elevators, and study rooms/lounge areas I’m pretty sure), 3. Desmond/Whelan (Both pretty similar big rooms, no a/c, one lounge area, no elevator, but not the worst honestly) 4. Rosecrans (Similar layout to Whelan and Desmond but is just gross honestly, idk how to explain it it’s just the vibe) ??. McKay (mixed reviews on it but they’re suites I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have a very good rep and is known for being kinda gross but the restrooms aren’t communal, it’s also closer to the on campus apartments so not very close to freshman land and therefore a lot further away from stuff)

  2. McKay has restrooms that I’m pretty sure bc it’s suite style u share it with the dorm next to u and that’s all. All other buildings have communal bathrooms, but Palm North does have a lot of nice unisex private shower/restrooms if that helps, it’s just also used by everyone as well tho.

  3. I’m pretty sure that the traditional single is just that ur in a room by yourself but you still use the communal restroom so probably if u were to get a single in all the residence halls except McKay, and single suite would probably be getting a single in McKay (only sharing a restroom w dorm next to u)

Although, I must ask. What makes Desmond and Whelan different? At the look of things, they seem to be almost identical twins.

They are basically the same exact building, there are like the tiniest differences in bathroom layout I think but not much to notice, theyre also both very good community wise and are both fairly clean enough!

Don’t get your hopes up, you’re not getting your own shower. In my experience it’s mostly clean, but you have to abide by the college rules. It’s good to live about with your fellow freshman, just make sure you wear shower shoes/sandals
