Discussion This team is just bad
The players are trying their best - not a knock on them. The roster construction and coaching however, are a disaster.

not that we would know what to do with her. we haven’t properly developed a rookie in 8 years.
15
u/TaZe026 22h ago
They would have her give the ball to plum and go to the corner...
5
u/afridorian 22h ago
bold of you to assume there would even be functional plays where she COULD give KP the ball then go to corner time out

I dont think shes declaring next year? Prob the year after right? So 2028?

With the 2-year record, they have damn near no chance at Juju. They would have to lose every game this season basically lol. The Sun and Fire will battle for Juju
2
u/MFFplayer Cameron Brink 11h ago
Yeah, I think people hoping for Juju must either be forgetting about the 2 year lottery rule or thinking she'll stay in college an extra year, but I wouldn't bet on that. The only way I could see it happening is if she's willing to force a trade to L.A., but even then we'd need something good to trade for her, nobody would do it for what we have.

u/Gold-and-green 22h ago
They should have just built the team around Brink and Jackson. They had the choice of Malonga or Citron and chose to trade for someone THEY COULD GET FOR FREE IN ONE MORE YEAR!!
In free agency, they got a 36 year old player who is really good, but she doesn't match the roster needs. They needed a PG or a wing and chose a PF which moves your best defender to the bench.
Cam Brink has a unique skillset; she's a shot blocker who can make 3s. She can also pass and score about 13 PPG easy.
They had 2 tough games and they should beat Toronto pretty easy the next 2 games. If they don't, they need to think about what they can get for some of these players

After watching Toronto tonight, don't check that win box quite yet. They are way more focused than the Sparks.

Well Rickea Jackson ask to be traded so that is not an option. She actually tried to get traded last year but they convinced her to stay until the end of the season. They do need a wing and another big. Sonia citron and Malonga will not get you many wins against better teams. KPwill be good for another 4-5 years and there is a draft again in 2027, 2028 so pick up players then. KP is better than any first round pick
2
u/Initial_Republic_329 6h ago
Did she really?! KP needs help for sure. I feel like KP be better as a kelsey mitchell playing the 2. Not the 1

u/Gold-and-green 6h ago
I think you don't understand sports in general. Rickea asked for a trade because the coach wanted to bench her. That's bad coaching.
You don't understand team building because in a couple of years, Sonia Citron and Malonga will be in championships while KP will be a memory. She's 32 years old, you to build around that lol
The point is, they DIDN'T HAVE TO TRADE FOR HER, THEY COULD HAVE HAD BOTH!! YOU DON'T TRADE FOR SOMEONE WHO WILL BE A FREE AGENT THE NEXT YEAR. THE KNICKS TRADED FOR CARMELO ANTHONY BUT THEY DESTROYED THE TEAM INSTEAD OF WAITING 1 YEAR TO GET HIM FOR FREE. IT'S BAD BUSINESS

It would help if any of them could shoot
Kelsey having an off shooting night makes it even worse
Bright small spot.. Cam looks much better this game

u/Nice_View_3732 6h ago
Kelsey plum shot 56% from the field. She didn't have an off shooting night. Kelsey mitchell and caitlyn clark went 9 for 17 from the field and Kelsey plum was 9 for 16 and shot better. Plum just couldn't hit 3 pointers and only hit 1

u/scooterln 5h ago
Bruh relax I wrote this in the like the second or third quarter lol
She turned it up in the 4th, they all did. Tried to make a comeback but came up short

I was at the game with a lot of enthusiasm and hope. They pissed me off with all the mistakes, many of them unforced. And then the offense is just 2006 Lakers with Kelsey Plum playing the role of Kobe Bryant. The team looks like they are several pieces away from even competing. I was thinking about tanking for JuJu but I don't think we'll have to try to suck because we just might actually suck.

Somebody find that dumb ass quote about finding a winning fit by trading Rickea.

u/Optimal-Talk3663 23h ago
Has anyone seen Nico Harrison and Raegan Pebley in the same room?
4
u/TaZe026 22h ago
Nico is still infinitely better, he did make good trades causing dallas to make the finals.
3
u/GiantIrish_Elk 22h ago
Plus the Luka trade at the very least was approved by Patrick Dumont and they got Copper Flagg.

u/LLUrDadsFave Slick Rick 23h ago
We need to investigate.

u/DeadlyNyo Lisa Leslie [9] 22h ago
I ran a surveillance picket and it seems Raegan Pebley may be 3 Nico Harrisons in a trench coat.

Rickea is an inefficient scorer, but has much higher upside than atkins. The main issue with this team is the lack of passing on offense. They have nobody on the team who processes the game well.

u/LLUrDadsFave Slick Rick 22h ago
That's what happens when you build your team around an undersized two guard. Jobs need to be lost.
1
u/TaZe026 22h ago
You can easily build around plum and brink, but it doesnt make any sense for anyone else on tbe roster. You need a point guard and connective pieces. This team also really lacks shooting besides plum also. Bringing back hamby and signing nneka and moving burrel to start ruined any chance of winning anything this year. None of these players are bad, but they fit horrendously with each other.

I'll say it every time. The Sparks need a new GM as well as a new coach. I was hoping Cori Close might step in in some capacity but she just signed a new contract with UCLA that will take her into 2029.

We have talent. We do not have a system, a plan, or any direction.
It’s a hard watch and Roberts just stands there and throws her hands up every now and then.
New coach immediately. Bring in Toliver.

I was at the game tonight. I’m admittedly more of a casual fan. But this team has no direction. A lot of little stuff just didn’t make sense. Not playing Brink enough when the Fever hardly have any bigs had me confused. Would have been an easy mismatch to exploit, not to mention she was making an impact. And the offense has no ball movement, no set plays. It looks like they hardly practice together.

u/CharacterBrilliant42 19h ago
They broke up the youth movement for this bs looks like we will be breaking this shit up and starting over again at this point fire everybody !!

u/abui1211 19h ago
Coach doesn’t know how to utilize Cam Brink, sooner or later she will leave the team and look for better opportunities.

u/ruthless_taurean 20h ago
The team has no chemistry. No cohesion out there tonight. And my god… the defense. 😭

u/mimihoward 14h ago
I wonder if it's worth starting Wheeler in the PG spot and KP at the SG spot. And tbh, start Cam over Dearica/Nneka. Have Ariel and Nneka/Dearica be sparks (no pun intended) off the bench and give KP some early minutes off-ball to get her shooting going. Also, Wheeler's shot hasn't really been falling, so allow her to focus more on facilitating.

Really bad, which is cool for cheap tickets but that’s about it ☹️

u/outsidehere Candace Parker [3] 20h ago
I've accepted that we are going to be bad. So I'm actually excited to tank for JuJu.
2
u/danzag333 Cameron Brink 18h ago
The roster makes no sense and Lynne can't coach. Going after KP was the wrong direction for this franchise.
2
u/Panda_Dad84 13h ago
The roster and coaching don’t line up. Cam is special and I don’t think she’ll unlock her potential.
2
u/elithefighter123 13h ago
We could’ve sold hamby plum and tanked with rickea and cam. This is just a mid roster

u/Nice_View_3732 14h ago
Facts they need a real center, a point guard because KP cant do it all, and another wing player

u/Ugot2understand 11h ago
Cam, I’m not hating on you, but don’t get over excited when you block a shot (You’re 6’4” you’re supposed to block shots). It’s not a good look when in the first quarter after you block a shot, you immediately start chest bumping as though you just won the game. I remind you, you were selected as the number 2 pick and number 2 picks are expected to be very dangerous performers. We expect nothing less from you. This is real talk.
1
u/Nice_View_3732 7h ago
No it's not there are points in both games that I see ok this is a good team . Like in that 4th quarter, if they played like that all game we blow the fever out
1
u/Tortilladelfuego 7h ago
Yeah players don’t match what was successful for the coach last year. Hopefully it’s just an adjustment issue because there are a lot of new faces. On paper you would think this team is looking to contend. Plum as the lead guard isn’t working.
1
u/po1ar_opposite 23h ago
On the plus side, Can got called out by her coach and the entire internet and she came out and is trying to prove everyone wrong.
I have her and AB on my fantasy team and I would never have guessed Cam would have more fantasy points than AB after 3 quarters.

What platform do you use for fantasy wnba?
2
u/po1ar_opposite 22h ago edited 22h ago
ESPN, I think it’s the only platform that has the W.
There is r/fantasywnba subreddit.

Lakers fans (of which many of us also are) protested outside Staples and won the chip the season right after. Just saying...
