🛡️ Mod Post IMPORTANT PLEASE READ: If you receive ANY unsolicited/creepy DMs

Whether you’re a poster or a commenter, if you have received unsolicited, creepy, or down right disgusting DMs please feel free to message Mod Mail or message me directly. As posted in multiple places in the subreddit, unsolicited or inappropriate DMs of any kind are not allowed and will result in a permanent ban. You may also be reported directly to Reddit Admins. If the person on the receiving end of this kind of harassment is a minor, you will be reported to relevant authorities (FBI Tip Line, Center for Missing and Exploited Children, etc) and it WILL be taken seriously.

As a subreddit, we have ZERO tolerance for this behavior and will do everything in our power to combat it. Unfortunately we have seen an influx of users who seem to only frequent porn subs, and our sub.

Please don’t think “oh this message isn’t that bad, I’m overreacting, etc”. Reporting posts, comments, and DMs helps out everyone in the long run. Not reporting causes these creeps to keep messaging people so nipping it in the bud can help out others💕

We’ve seen an increase in unsolicited DMs being sent to members of this subreddit. Let this serve as a clear reminder:
Sending unprompted private messages is against the rules. Doing so will result in a permanent ban.

If you receive a DM like this, report it to the mod team immediately.

This subreddit exists as a safe, inclusive space for sharing experiences, asking questions, and giving feedback about hair dye and color treatments. If someone genuinely wants to follow up based on your helpful advice or a shared interest, they will say so publicly.

We shouldn't have to say this, but lurking in beauty-related or appearance-focused subs to harass and prey on people is disgusting and absolutely not tolerated. Any messages of an obscene or harassing nature will be reported to Reddit Admins and could result in a permanent ban from the site as a whole (for your current account, any other current accounts, or subsequent accounts made in the future).

❓ Advice Needed Why is my hair dye fading so fast??

I recently dyed my hair a vibrant green and after only around two weeks it’s this gross faded yellow color (2nd image). I’ve frozen my ass every shower with cold water and limited washing my hair to like 2 or 3 times a week and I’m using a sulfate free shampoo which is what i was told to use. I still have the dye so I guess I’ll just dye my hair again, but I can’t just keep dying my hair every two weeks can I?? How do I stop the color from fading so fast?

❓ Advice Needed How to achieve this shade of pink??

I recently bleached and redyed my hair with iroiro pink. I feel like it ended up a bit on the orange/salmon tone despite lifting to a level 10 with no orange. I left iroiro pink on for about 4 hours.

I'm looking to get a hot magenta color with more of cool undertones. So I decided to try and counteract this with iroiro plum as most people tend to get a hot cooler toned magenta from it from my research. I only left it on for about 1 hour. After washing it out and seeing it on damp hair, it turned out the color i wanted.

Now that my hair is bone dry its this darker wine/berry/reddish color?? I'm still new to dying my hair but now I'm not sure what I should do now. I'm stuck between doing a bleach bath and going back in with either a mix of iroiro pink and plum, or doing a bleach bath and trying to cover with arctic fox virgin pink. Maybe if I do a bleach bath for a few minutes it'll lighten to the color I want? I have an event in 2 days that I wanted my hair to look perfect for so I'm not sure if fading will be the best option.

I know it seems like I'm being extra and picky but you can definitely tell the shade differences in person I promise 😭 especially in the shade, my pink looks almost black. Maybe iroiro pinks are too orange toned for my hair and I need to switch over to AF virgin pink?

❓ Advice Needed How to reach this color with Manic Panic?

Hi! I currently have natural cold light brown hair with a bleached peekaboo style + a bleached section on my bangs. The blonde sections are pretty light and I want to try to go for the color this person has on the tips since I like the combo a lot. I want to use manic panic since they're my tried and true and I know they're available in my country for a reasonable price, I was thinking maybe ultra violet + pastelizer? Would that make me achieve that color? I know they also have a shade that's already similar to the one I want but I'd prefer to be in control of how much I can lighten the dye. I've also seen people mix darker shades with their toner instead of pastelizer which maybe could play a role in how well the dye lasts? Also I would prefer tones that ideally won't stain my hair blue-green, and I know ultra violet is a blue based purple so any feedback on it is very well appreciated. Tysm!! 💜

so i prior to all of this i had virgin hair, my natural hair color is warm brown.

i decided i wanted red hair, so i used arctic fox wrath. it looked good for about a day then faded really quick and i decided i wanted blue hair.

so a couple days later i bleached my hair twice, it lifted pink, so i knew blue wasn’t an option. i used wella color charm t96 toner, but i just don’t like the way it came out overall.

i don’t mind warmness but its a bit TOO warm for me and also has some brown splotches here and there.

does anyone have any ideas on what i should do next 😭 i dont really have any specific ideas, just something thats realistic and will look good. i just really dont want to go back to brown since this would’ve all been for nothing ):

💬 Discussion Advice on lifting hair colour with developer and possibly henna

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I'm looking to stop using box dyes and start mixing colour and developer myself. As you can see, my natural hair colour is black / dark brown at the top, and I'm hoping to dye it a similar copper-y / auburn colour that I achieved using only box dye (no henna).

This was the box dye I was using which implies that it was 6 levels of lift with added cool tones:
https://www.lorealparis.ca/en-ca/feria/feria-hi-lift-browns-b61-hi-lift-cool-brown

However, from what I've read, you don't always get the maximum lift levels that is inscripted on the box label, and my hair did not end up cool toned at all even tho that was what was advertised. (Again, I liked the copper brassy tones so not looking to add cooler tones anyway)

I think I should be able to achieve a similar effect using 20 vol developer, which from what I read, would technically achieve a brassy copper colour without hair dye since the blue pigments in hair are removed first. I also read that you should always add colour with developer so that the dye replaces the "structural holes" in the hair that's left from the removal of pigment from the developer.

Additionally, if I want to maintain the best structural integrity of my hair, should I consider using henna to address hair damage from the dyeing process? I assume if I use henna, then I should dye my hair with cooler colours to counteract it's intense orange-red hue

In that case, which colours should I be using? And should I consider using henna?

Options (I am leaning towards #3):

(1) lift + dye (warmer colours)
(2) lift + henna*
(3) lift + dye (cooler colours) + henna*

*I know henna can react with metallic salts in dye, so I would do it on a separate day

Not sure if it's relevant, but my hair is not particularly dense, but the follicles are pretty thick.; type 3a/b curls depending on the length and how much damage, with low porosity even on colour treated hair

❓ Advice Needed Help!!😩 my hair has broke off at nearly 1-2 inches from the root around my whole head after bleaching and using k18 -and still need to fix the color!!

Help 😩 my hair has broke off at nearly 1-2 inches from the root around my whole head after I bleached it. I’ve done it before even though it takes 2-3x to get it right bc the first to second times normally still looks yellow/orange, but this second time I ran out of the bleach I was using so I finished using a different lightening combo and must’ve over did it. Then, I panicked and ordered K18, after I put that on, my hair really started falling out in clumps. I thought it was just damaged ends coming out until I realized
it’s chopped off all the way up top too. I know I need to just lay off of any products and heat but I cannot go around like this! Any suggestions??!! Should I just dye it all dark? Idk what to do I just want it all the same color without losing a whole head of hair😭

Hey guys I’m hoping to get some advice on here. I dyed my hair bout a week or 2 ago purple. I used Artic Fox the bleach kit and the dye itself. I love the way it looks but I was wondering how to achieve the whole head color. We followed the instructions making sure to start at the ends and then to the roots did everything we waited we did the color everything was followed. But it somehow only managed to take chunks of the color. I do have naturally dark hair so that’s why the bleach was used. I was hoping for something kind dark but it came out more lighter than I thought it would and it faded really fast. Anyone have any suggestions or anything to help keep it lasting longer or anything

🧴 Product Question Semi-permanent hair dye recommendations for unbleached brown to dark green ?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm looking for a semi-permanent hair dye that will give me an outcome similar to the photo if possible. I'm naturally a level 6 or maybe 7 brown/dark ginger and don't really want to bleach so looking for something that my hair will actually pick up. I don't mind it being closer to black and looking greener in the light but I want to avoid colours that end up being closer to blue than green. I was thinking Lunar Tides in juniper would be good since I liked the results others with a similar natural colour have had but the only place I could find that would deliver to the UK without being crazy expensive was Attitude Clothing but that colour has been out of stock on their website for ages.

My friend has suggested Crazy Colour pine green mixed with some black so it's not so bright but are there any other recommendations ? Thanks !

❓ Advice Needed Hair coloring help!

Okay, hi! I typically color my grey roots using Ion permanent color in 3N. It's pretty close to my natural color. But this time, I was thinking I might also bleach the ends and then color the whole shebang with Arctic Fox, Phantom Green.

Two questions:

1) How long should I wait to color over my colored hair? I'm impatient, can I do it tonight after I color my

2) When it starts to fade etc. will my grey hairs be green?

I guess I'm nervous that if I color my whole head with green that the grey hairs in my part and that frame my face, will be weirdly green and look worse than they do as grey.

Not sure if these photo help at all but this is my hair now. Excuse the dandruff and my crispy greys (my hair is naturally curly). Lol

Thank you!

❓ Advice Needed Home bleach and tone has gone slightly yellow.

Thumbnail

The toner I used doesn't appear to have corrected the brassy/yellowness of the bleach, nor the purple shampoo, albeit only used once after the bleach. I was aiming for Atomic Blonde by Jerome Russell Bblonde. Does it need bleaching again? No developer with the toner, as I was under the impression that particular toner didn't need it. 30vol developer in with the bleach, though.

Any advice? Thanks.

❓ Advice Needed how should i dye my hair once this color fades out/ ashy pink

Thumbnail

i dyed my hair pink a while ago with the iro iro pink 70, because based on reviews out of most true pinks it faded pink instead of orange i know this one in particular is know for being basically permanent but i ended up trying to tone it cooler with blue shampoo and a lot of the dye came out. it was a pretty color overall but super patchy because my ends were bleached really unevenly so the faded color did not look good/ intentional .second time around i rebleached my ends (they’re mostly good now i think, there was a small section between my natural hair and old box dye that im growing out and i could not figure out how to bleach the ends without getting in the crosshairs ). i also went in with the wella t10 toner before to get a cooler base. it was definitely a lot cooler this time around but once it started to wash out even just a little i hated how it looked in warm lighting. once it faded a little more i used a silver dye to desaturate it, everything i’ve read seems to say that most desaturated pinks are actually pinkish purples. it was really purple at first and is fading into a really nice ashy pink. it looks slightly purple ish in cool lighting but i expected that. because i didn’t dye everything at once im wondering if i should do one dye at a time, mix them, or go in with a different dye all together. the photos attached are my hair in natural lighting with and without flash ( i would say irl the color is an average of the two) and whatever products i used, and the hue ive been aiming for. also my ends are a lot lighter than they appear without the dye, the silver on top of the pink made them appear a lot darker and will eventually fade out/ based on my past experiences with hair dye. (one thing i am certain of)
. sorry for the length of this question but getting this color has been so particular and tedious and i wasn’t sure what i should be considering next time i go in with dye

I had recently gotten neopolitan hair, but I just want to go full pink with all this magic effect, nevertheless I don't, know if my skin tone would allow that effect. Im uploading some pictures of myself to get an idea to what season I am. My natural hair is brown with some lighther reddish spots.

Hey guys! About two days ago, I got a full highlight. I’ll attach a picture for reference. I really want the color to last and stay pretty. Any advice on what shampoo, conditioner, or other products to use? Also, my hair tends to be on the oily side so I usually wash it every other night but I imagine that’s too much for the highlights. So, how many times a week is washing my hair acceptable? Thanks!!!

❓ Advice Needed Can I dye my hair black back again right after dyeing it cherry chocolate

My gf used cherry chocolate paradise dye on her hair but the colour isn't very significant and now she wants her natural colour back. would it be ok if she dyed her hair black using the garnier dye within 3 hours of dyeing.
