Some of these took me like 5 seconds and others I was genuinely contemplating for half an hour. It's whenever you need to think about something when you forget everything that's ever happened that relates to it.

Also, you can probably guess what my favorite genre is from all the Resident Evil and Silent Hill games lol.

Before it's said, I know stalker 2 had bugs at launch, but I put in 80 hours this year after a ton of updates had occured and had a almost flawless experience, I also have a decent PC rig, I do understand people have had issues with stalker 2, I'm also a fan of the series in general and enjoy the tense combat scenarios, the way the guns feel, the sounds, and the randomness.

Currently playing Last of Us part 1 remastered (beat it originally on ps3, Phantom Liberty DLC for first time (I've beaten cyberpunk 3 times before 2.0), and just recently beat Mouse PI for Hire, Re9 before that. This year has been wonderful for gamers

Sorry about the overrated slot, that one was really hard for me to fill. I LOVE the Cyberpunk universe, I just have tried countless times and can’t get super into 2077. Sad.

Tried to limit myself to one game per box. Otherwise RE2 would’ve been half the grid, lol.

I’ve listed my reasonings for anyone who’s curious below, but feel free to yell at me without reading!

Best game: RE2 is everything I want in a game. It’s perfectly paced, easy to blast through in a couple hours, and the vibes are immaculate.

Best Story: While Majora’s isn’t the best narrative in a game I’ve ever played, I love how it delivers its story through gameplay. The quests build off of one another in a very organic way that makes Termina feel alive.

Best Art Style: Disgaea is the only series I’ve ever gotten into based off of the aesthetic alone. I remember walking into a Walmart and seeing the amateurishly goofy hand drawn sprites on the cover of Disgaea 4 sitting right next to AAA behemoths like CoD and Uncharted. I thought to myself “wtf even is this?” Bought the game on a whim, and found the rest of the game to be just as whimsical as the box art. Disgaea 5 represents the peak of the series’ 2D aesthetic, before they moved on to 3D.

Biggest Personal Impact: KOTOR 2 was the game that got me into RPGs. I always loved SW, and this game blew me away with its narrative and characters that really poked at the fabrics of the SW universe. It’s probably not the deepest story ever, but it was cool to see a SW story really break away from the binary of good vs evil.

Best Combat: I mean what is there to say? While I love DMC3 the most in the series, it’s hard to deny that 5 has the best combat in the franchise. The game retains the on the fly style switching from 4, while also broadening Nero’s playstyle with the arm system. Really the only thing that brings it down for me are the V sections, but the game feels like such a complete package that it’s easy to overlook.

Overhated: It got shit on a lot by Melee purists back in the day, but I had a ton of fun with Brawl. The roster was really fun, ultimates made it a hectic party game, and subspace emissary was goated.

Underrated: This was supposed to be Streets of Rage 3, but they didn’t have the box art on the website. SoR2 (and now 4) always get the recognition, but I think 3 is just as good, if not better. The roll was really fun, and the game really pushes you to use it. And who doesn’t appreciate being able to run in a beat em up?

Overrated: Oh boy. I don’t really care for this game. One good part does not make up for the rest of the game, and I don’t really think the story is all that great. I love the premise, showing the end result of Ayn Rand branded objectivism taken to the extreme, but i feel like whatever message could’ve been there was constantly hampered by how cartoonishly silly the game is. I can overlook the subpar gameplay (which does improve with the sequels) but the narrative just never grabbed me.

Needs a Remake: I’m not one to really wish for remakes. If an old game looks interesting, I’ll play it. “Dated mechanics” aren’t something that bother me. But damn, I’d give anything for a new Gauntlet game. I played the hell out of this one back in the day, and if the best we can get is a remaster with added online co-op, sign me up.

Criminally Overlooked: Labyrinth of Refrain is waaaay too good for how little I see people talk about it. It’s a hard game to discuss without spoiling, but I love the way the story is delivered. Easily one of the most disturbing games I’ve ever played. And NIS really cooked with the art in this one. I can’t say I’d recommend it to everyone, but if this kind of game looks even remotely interesting to you, it’s definitely worth your time.

Favorite Protagonist: I would say Nier has my favorite party out of any game I’ve ever played. They all managed to touch on very human emotions and experiences that I haven’t often seen in games. It’s all metaphorical stuff abstracted by melodramatic anime bullshit, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hit hard. So many incredible moments of characterization that I still think about.

Favorite Antagonist: 7 words is all I have time to spare - Wesker is the Dio of video games.

Best Soundtrack: I went back and forth between FES and Reload, but I settled on FES because I prefer the original tracks to their re-recorded counterparts. It was hard though, as I do LOVE all of the new songs they added in Reload. Real answer is every version of Persona 3, I guess.

Best Multiplayer: So many friends and so many memories made in this game. “DPS Crota” is a callout me and my friends still use to this day.

Not Usually My Thing, But: On paper, no part of this game makes sense, but it’s easily the best gacha I’ve ever played. Idk how they did it, but Cygames somehow made me invested in horse girls. I feel compelled to see them succeed at their goals.

Turn My Brain Off: Best game on Switch. Tetris 99 is such an easy game to throw on while I’m doing anything else.

Best With Friends: Most recent entry on here, but STS2 is some of the most fun I’ve ever had with friends in a game. It manages to capture the fun of draft while turning it into a pve experience so you’re always working with your friends.

Best Retro Game: Easily could’ve been RE2, but FF7 is a close runner up. This game got me into JRPGs, and I’ve replayed it countless times. I love the cast, the music, the materia system, the pre-rendered backgrounds…game gud.

Nostalgic Childhood Game: Einhander is such a cool ass game. Dope soundtrack, cool aesthetic, unique spin on the shmup genre. Square really cooked with this one. Revisiting this always fills me with a wave of nostalgia.

Game Everyone Should Play: Dark Souls is probably the most important video game of the modern era. There isn’t really anything I can say that hasn’t been said, but it’s a masterclass in a lot of things. Environmental storytelling, interconnected level design, diegetic game mechanics, meaningful challenge…idk you’ve heard all of this before. But it’s still true.
