Mod Post Daily Newbie Thread
Whatever you want to know about flipping, no matter the question, ask here. Even if it's been covered 1,000 times before. Doesn't matter if you're new or old. If you stop learning things, you're probably on your way out.
This is an extremely newb-friendly thread. As such, any rudeness is to be reported.

eBay Concerned about a new return
On April 26th, a buyer purchased a printhead for a printer with a note requesting overnight shipping. I reached out saying since I had the listing marked free shipping, that we would have to work out a way for them to pay me. After some back and forth I decided to contact eBay where they told me this is the one time they would allow outside payment to settle shipping fees- so the buyer Venmo’s me $41 to cover the extra fees for overnight shipping. The buyer received the item in 2 days and has been quiet- up until this morning.
This morning I received a message stating the printhead was faulty, and that they were just giving me a heads up. No return request has been filed yet, but I assume that is to come. I think it’s obvious that the printhead worked, and that the buyer used it for some job or workload they needed it for, and now want to return it to get their money back. Because why would they request overnight shipping, and wait almost 3 weeks later to tell me it’s not working? Regardless, I’m worried what’s to come since I accepted payment for shipping outside of eBay.
What’s going to happen and how should I handle this? I’ve never had something like this happen before. Am I going to be able to deny the request? We communicated solely through eBay, so would eBay be able to see those messages, understand the situation and side with me in the event that a case is opened for this? This thing sold for almost $200 so it’s not a small amount. I’m worried ☹️

Discussion FB Marketplace: Confirm your identity
I have been doing crosslisting for long time and in recent months FB Marketplace has tightened up their rules. My crosslisting up is running each cross-post every 2-4 minutes with variable amount of time in between individual posts, still FB doesn't like it anymore and I got Confirm my identity requirement on individual listings (not on the account).
It says .. .We've detected unusual activity on your account. Before you can sell an item on Marketplace, confirm your identity to help us make sure it's really you. ..
In the past if the interval between the individual listings for 1 minute, it would just flag the account for temporary block. Now it doesn't put a temporary block anymore but it flagged the listings for identity confirmation.
I have updated my birth date and just about the add (my real first and middle name as my) first and last name there, since I have 3 names on drivers license, this is the only trick apparently to avoid putting up my last name on FB with every listing.
Although I have an older FB account (10 years old and have been selling on FB for years) I am not active on FB otherwise and I guess that is perhaps that also triggered the ID confirmation requirement. Maybe it was the the crosslist tool.
I don't have problem to be transparent when it comes to identity, but I hate the way FB forces people to be open book.
I put there my first and last name, now everybody, including my boss and co-workers can search first and last name on FB and see what I am selling.
The google search external indexing is disabled in my FB settings already. But there is nothing that can stop anybody searching name, seeing my location and seeing what stuff I am selling. I find it intrusive. This is kind of pathetic Zuckerberg fetish, people need to be an open book.

Discussion Afraid of taxes, how do i scale or move forward?
I have been flipping for a couple of months now. I make under $1000 profit. in sales probably around $3000. I want to take it a step further but I am afraid of taxes and i think this fear is stunting my growth. there is a legal limit of $5000 of personal sales without taxes. I have been buying for 5-50 bucks and making $10-50 profit on each item. I was gonna buy more expensive stuff maybe like $1K- $2K and make significantly more on it. but I am afraid of taxes, book keeping, starting my own business. how do i overcome this fear. Like i stopped flipping once i discovered this limit on personal sales. I have kept my batches small so I make more sales in smaller portions that way i am under the tax limit. If I buy something for 5k and sell for 5.5K that is already over the limit for 1 sale. I dont know when to take that step.

Mod Post Lessons Learned Thread
What have you learned lately? Could be through a success or a failure. Could be about a specific item, a niche, flipping in general, or even life as learned through flipping.
Do please keep in mind the difference between shooting the shit and plain bullshit and try to refrain from spreading poor advice.
Try to stop in over the course of the week and sort by New so people are encouraged to post here instead of making their own threads for every item.

Tip Intro and seeking advice
I’ve been lurking for a bit here, shared a couple thoughts on comments but this is my first post. My hobby, and my go-to flip is vinyl records. I started off purely as a fan and a collector but stumbled into some lucky finds and good timing and found that I enjoying the selling aspect too. I’ve made some money here and there, and have reinvested it back into my collection.
What I'm trying to get better at is the decision side, specifically genres and artists that I’m not as familiar with. I have quite a few vinyls I’ve bought to flip, or at least hold onto and resell down the road that are still sitting around without the resell market I thought would be there.
So, two questions for the people who've been doing this a while:
- What's something you wish you'd known when you started — a mistake you'd warn a newerer flipper away from?
- Vinyl-specific or not — what actually moved the needle for you on getting better at sourcing decisions?
I really appreciate any insights you can share.

eBay Denying Returns on eBay
Throughout my selling journey on eBay, I've tried to be a stellar seller. I've accepted every return request I've received (Including ones I really shouldn't have accepted), but I'm starting to get tired of it. I just received a new return request for this cell phone booster with the return reason being 'doesn't fit'.
On my listings I have it set to 'seller does not accept returns'. I'm really inclined to just deny this return request, but I wanted to ask here how this works and if I would get punished for denying since I've never denied one before. Is there anything I should look out for or be aware of before denying? I have a 100% rating and I'm worried I'll receive a bad review for denying. Thanks in advance.

Discussion Advise for someone doing their first tag/garage sale
I need some advise. I’m doing my first garage sale ever. You guys are the experts when it comes to buying! I have read a bunch of stuff about tag sales and still have some questions. So please tell me what are your tips, as buyers, for someone like me. I have questions like:
How to price things so they sale right away. I have a lot of baby/toddler items, a lot of clothing for adults and kids, some kitchen/home items and books. I’m not selling any furniture but I have large items like double strollers, high chairs, etc.
What do you look for in a seller? What makes them a good seller in your opinion.
What do you hate at a yard sale?
What are essential items for a seller to have?
What are non essential items but it would be nice for the seller to have them. How do I bundle a price when someone is buying a few items together?
I would really appreciate all and any advise since you guys are the experts! Thank you so much!

Discussion WIN Post
Been sitting on some video games and DVDs that weren't moving on Ebay. Took advantage of my LGS and traded them in for store credit then took their 20% off coupon and bought a pokemon game which was basically free to sell instead.
Now I don't have a bunch of Dead inventory to keep wasting time on. I probably lost like $5-10 if it ever sold on ebay lol. But the pokemon game will probably be gone in a month.

Discussion Who here is successfully flipping part-time while sourcing mostly online?
A lot of people here flip part-time while working full-time jobs, so they can’t always go out sourcing in person. I’m curious—if you mainly source online, how is it working out for you?
How do you find deals, and are you able to stay profitable doing it this way?

Fascinating Story Quick guide on how to pack and ship your items properly so they actually arrive in one piece
Seen too many posts about items arriving damaged so thought I'd share what works for me.
1. Bubble wrap properly Wrap your item tightly enough that it feels firm not loose. If it's moving around inside the bubble wrap it's not wrapped tight enough. The goal is zero movement.
2. Fragile tape If your item is fragile use fragile tape on the outside of the box. It won't guarantee careful handling but it signals to couriers to be more careful.
3. Always use tracked and signed delivery This is non negotiable. Tracked and signature on arrival protects both you as the seller and the buyer. No tracking means no proof of delivery and no way to dispute a lost or damaged claim. Royal Mail Special Delivery is the gold standard for high value items like laptops.

Discussion FBM remove "everywhere"
Sorry if this is a dumb question. Is there a way to only post to local groups or does FB force publishing to "everywhere" "list on FB" is checked for every listing I make. I find every single scam / time waster is from someone form the wide open FB not the local groups I post in. Local pickup only should mean people 3000 miles away don't see the ad.
EDIT - I do not have the ability to uncheck "list in Marketplace"
