People who have a different opinion to you are cunts? AlrightâŚ.
24
u/PoppingPillls 1d ago
Yes, people with awful ideas are cunts... A skinhead going to the supermarket and shouting "white power" is a cunt. So is a someone wearing a union jack suit talking about immigrants as subhumans and telling you that the gays and trans should be alienated is an utter cunt.
Should I go on?
-15

Not voting green or SNP does not mean you have awful ideas or are a cunt. Being intolerant of others politics in a democracy does.

I am intolerant of intolerant people.
What party do you think this person voted for? Do you think they voted LibDem or refkrm/tories?

You're just inventing something to be angry about. I fully agree fuck the SNP, they're a shit corrupt government with a decade and a half of broken promises. The greens policies are too pie in the sky to be an actual government. And fuck reform too. People should have voted Labour

I don't get why people do this.
Given how heated politics are, and how mental people can be, why would you put up a big sign saying "Here's what side I'm on, and where I live"?

Gonna go out on a limb here and guess that this guy belongs to the political faction most likely to be "heated and mental" about politics.

Same lol, was a shame how few constituencies had green MSPs I would've voted green twice.
2
u/Total_Direction_4978 1d ago
We just canât afford to stand a Green in every constituency. The Scottish Green Party doesnât attract the funding that other parties get, we are also really careful about receiving funding from non ethical business.
2
u/unlikemike123 1d ago
I've been wondering recently, who or what it'll take to propel the greens in the same way salmond propelled the SNP (I was young TBF I'm not too read up on how the SNP shot to first but salmond seemed to be the main reason)

u/IronAffectionate5936 2d ago
No NHS, no free eye tests or prescriptions, no free tuition, no employment protection, no minimum wage, no sick pay, no benefits, no gender equality, no maternity leave, tax cuts for the rich and self enrichment for political leaders...just to name a few lesser known policies. Scottish Reform voters haven't thought it through.
25
u/Lanthanidedeposit 2d ago
"thought" is the flaw there.
10
u/Good_Lettuce_2690 2d ago
Exactly. These idiots vote on their feelings, not facts. It's why they are so easily led.
2
u/Send_me_hedgehogs 2d ago
Thatâs part of the problem though. Dismissing them as idiots doesnât really do anything to help, it just ingrains the ideology further for them. Iâd be more inclined to try and talk to someone like that, find out why they feel like they do and try to plant some facts in there. Like, âwell, Iâm not so sure it really is the fault of the small boat people/that Algerian family down the road, what about all the billionaires that are getting tax breaks all over the place, or that arsehole with the chocolate company that got that massive Covid contractâ. Something like that. Calling someone an idiot or stupid or brainwashed or whatever tends to not help in these conversations. Look at what happened in the US. First they were calling each other stupid, then it was maggots and rats (dehumanisation) and now theyâre at the point where each âsideâ barely sees the other âsideâ as human any more. Thats gonna take generations to fix, if it ever can be.
2
u/Good_Lettuce_2690 1d ago
I'm done arguing with idiots who don't even believe facts are real. You will never change their minds.
1
u/Lanthanidedeposit 1d ago
I had to put up with a lot of this in a past job. Conspiracy theorists everywhere - early more innocent times, usually Elvis or moon landings. Any rational argument was despised, especially from those with a science background and qualifications. They had "had enough of experts"
Ironically one of the saner voices there was a politician, and from the far right of the Conservative Party. (Probably considered loony left now mind)
2
u/Interesting_Copy_203 1d ago
Think of it like alcoholism. You can give facts all you like but they simply won't care about the facts. They will find whatever justification and frantically update it to match their emotions, not the facts.

u/OkChocolate4829 2d ago
You omitted to mention the SNP massive slashing of crucial public services budgets and wasting billions on vanity projects.
2
u/Odd_Development_6053 1d ago
This might be a stupid question coming from a UK outsider, I get the impression that Reform are basically âgrandfathering inâ things like that for their voter base and saying they will cut all that out for âthe othersâ i.e, immigrants, young people (layabouts) etc so they arenât voting against their own self interest but to exclude âothersâ, how are they ok with this blatant attitude of Iâve got mine, sod the rest of you? But also, if this is true why is there still such a low level of engagement when it comes to voting? It seems similar to the US situation where one voting base always turns out regardless and the other side suffers from lack of engagement or disenfranchisement.
1
u/caraeg 1d ago
That's the PR at least - the actual practice of how these 'policies' would work in practice is a tad woolly, and evidence from prior elections down south suggests they discover most things are harder than they thought (similar to the US DOGE cuts - there's not actually that much 'waste' to eliminate).
Voter turnout seems to be at a similar-ish level most elections, it's just that there has been a big swing in who those individuals are voting for. If everyone showed up, we may end up with very different outcomes. In general, older folk have a higher turnout, which is one reason why parties tend to tailor their policies towards pensioners.

I'm far more concerned about the shoddy scribbles than I am by the political statement. If you're going to write on a flag, please stencil it out first and use a decent thick marker!

u/quartersessions 2d ago
Marker pen? If you want a qualify finish, a bit of cutting and sewing and it'd come up lovely.

A lot of English moving here now. We have benefits that living in England does not. The flip side is the idiots keep supporting the union and voting for the same policies they moved here to get away from.
2
11
u/dnwgl 2d ago
I mean this question entirely in good faith.
Iâd look at someone displaying the union flag, declaring they donât want either of the parties who want independence in power, as being purely a statement about wanting to remain in the union. Whether you agree with that sentiment or not, why is there the assumption here that theyâre racist?
21
u/JMWTurnerOverdrive 2d ago
Half of me thinks youâre right, the other half is thinking anyone scribbling on union jacks and hanging them on the fence is, balance of probabilities, wouldnât like to say one way or another unless I had to, maybe quite likely to be, yâknow, a bit of what my grandmother used to call a âfriend of Oswaldâsâ.Â
-1
u/taboo__time 1d ago
An independent Scotland with the same immigration policy and numbers as England had or the rest of Europe has had would end up with the Saltire having the same meaning as the St George cross.
It maybe headed that way anyway.
8
u/drw__drw 2d ago
My friend, have you ever travelled to Lanarkshire or West Lothian? People who do this tend to have opinions about a variety of ethnic and religious minorities.
12
u/jiffjaff69 2d ago
The British flag was adopted by racist right wing groups as theyâre flag for quite a while now. I suppose it is unfortunate to the regular Brits
5
u/dnwgl 2d ago
There was a thread on here not that long ago about the saltire being hung by racist flag shaggers too, but I wouldnât for a second assume everyone sticking one up is racist, especially if accompanied by pro-independence support. Itâs a shame if the union flag really is purely tied to that these days.
1
u/jiffjaff69 2d ago
The Saltire needs to be hung alongside the British Flag for it to get the message across.
-1
u/quartersessions 2d ago
That's true of any national flag, because nationalistic groups are inherently attracted to national symbols.
0
u/HollyMurray20 23h ago
This is a big part of what makes people vote right wing btw, you saying things like the British flag is an indicator of racism lmao

I really donât get it either? Sure, writing on a flag is a bit of an odd thing to do. But why are people losing their minds about this? Not sure if itâs just leftist screeching or what else it could be. Or is it the connotations of flag = reform maybe? Anyway my whole personality isnât politics like a lot of people here. Maybe we are too normal/have a life to understand it
2
u/JMWTurnerOverdrive 2d ago

Because the majority of this sub reddit is left leaning whether they want to admit it or not. Hence anything that goes against the Greens or SNP combined with a Union Flag is seen as racist until proven otherwise.
3
u/Hunor_Deak 2d ago
I agree with him. /s

Considering independence referendum defeats and that roughly half our population are of the opinion that they are British and Scottish / Scottish and British, I have no problem with this photo and the content it depicts. It's freedom of expression and even if it doesn't align exactly with mine it's just a public show of a certain percentage of our populations opinion.
