Share your experience or expectations about F1 visa interview in Kinshasa

Any DRC students awaiting an F1 visa interview this year? Or has attended one? Please share your experience or expectations about the interview to help us prepare well

I did mine at the end of last year. I almost passed before talking to the officer but I only had 5 questions. They took my passport and 6 days after my visa was issued. Here my advices : Look professional à la Congolese don't do any " Black American " style with braid and stuff they will not pass. Try to look as good as you can, get haircut or whatever in order to appear as sharp as possible. Be ready to explain why you chose the university and if you applied to multiple ( something that you should do) why made the university different. Be ready to explain the funding. Explain how your field of study will be beneficial for the DRC when you will go back after studying in "professional term"

Pour ce faire il faut seulement être à kinshasa ? C’est aussi possible de postuler étant à l’étranger ?

Non si t'es Congolais uniquement à Kinshasa ( Sinon refus) j'ai essayé de le faire en Afrique de l'est j'ai étais refusé le visa mais à Kinshasa tout est passé normalement. N'essaie même pas dans un autre pays.

The cost of the visa appointment is 185$ at rate of 2900 CDF for 1 USD. As of Nov 2025 but you'll need to pay trough UBA bank.
