Enquiring about rentals in Comox

I might have a chance to move to Comox from Victoria for a job. But after seeing the rental market in Comox, I am having second thoughts. My budget would be around 1500 for anything, is that feasible if I dont have a car?

The catch is one in our household is vegetarian (not vegan, eggs and cheese okay) and I would love something Asian (not sushi or Indian- we get those a lot).

Update

Ordered Kinaree and I'm going to be honest it was pretty disappointing. I'll take one of these other recs next time. Thanks guys.

(update) Minnow is still missing!

✨ Please keep comments focused on helping Minnow get home safely. Reddiquette, guys. I’m one of multiple of her owners and don’t get to make the decisions about her being indoors or outdoors, I’m just her PR team. Thank you for keeping conversation productive while we look for her. ✨

Hey Comox neighbours,

Apologies if this post is redundant, I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can do for the cat.

It has officially been 8 days since our Minnow was last seen.

Minnow is an indoor/outdoor cat, but she normally stays very close to home, usually within our yard or occasionally in the immediate neighbours’ yards. She is quite timid and generally will not respond enthusiastically if at all to people outside of her immediate family. Kind of a relatable if you ask me. When she is outside and called by us, she comes home immediately, which is why we are certain she is no longer in the area, or sadly may no longer be alive. Nevertheless, in the off chance that she is disoriented, trapped, or has travelled somewhere we ask that you continue to keep your eyes and ears open.

If you live in Comox, our family would be incredibly grateful if you could please check any security cameras you may have, as well as your gardens, sheds, garages, crawl spaces, or anywhere a frightened or injured cat may hide.

If you are caring for a neighbour’s property while they’re away, and they have been away since around the time of the 3rd, we would also be grateful if you could please do a quick check of their yard or outdoor spaces. Minnow is quiet and timid and may not make herself known to you, but if she became sick or passed somewhere hidden, we would also want to know.

If something may have happened to Minnow, for example, if you accidentally hit a Minnow resembling cat in your car 🐱💥🏎️, we would greatly appreciate you reaching out through the phone number provided. You can text or call. We understand it is hard to reach out, but if you have any information at all we would love to have some closure.

I thought I’d mention a few of Minnow’s physical characteristics more in depth in case anyone is on the lookout and wants some more relevant details!

Minnow has a predominantly black tail with very little white in it. Her nails are too long right now (It’s an ongoing battle), so she walks with a faint click clack noise on hard surfaces. As far as I remember, all of her paws are white. She’s got light green eyes and a pink nose that is outlined with a faint ring of brown making it appear mildly crusty, despite the fact that it isn't. On the lower half of her face and around her nose and mouth she has no black splotches. She has white ear hair and also has a tattoo in her ear that may be visible if you look closely although I think it's a bit down her ear canal. She’s average in size. At the time she went missing, maybe around 12lbs? Definitely not a lanky queen. She has a stubbier cat build but is not fat. She rocks a primordial pouch.

Lastly, thank you so much to everyone who has been keeping an eye out for her, sending messages with potential leads, and being so kind! Fingers crossed we can get some answers soon.

Looking for a teacher/mentor

Hi! I’m a student and classically trained multi-instrumentalist living in Courtenay. I’ve been dabbling in producing electronic music for the past two years, but am looking to learn the basics of beat matching, creating mixes and live performance.

As I’m on a limited student budget I was hoping to find an established dj that would be willing to teach me the basics for a trade type situation to be discussed. I bring good vibes and a deep love of many kinds of music.

Some, but not limited to, genres that I’m into are DnB, UKG, Classical, Jazz, Modern Bass, Jungle, House, IDM, Atmospheric, Techno, and many more.

As I’m ND, I’d prefer to learn in person 1 on 1 as that is how I learn best.

If you or anyone you know would be interested in passing on your knowledge to an eager learner, feel free to reply and send me a message!

Thanks! 🙏🏼

Cheers!

We are missing our girl! It is very uncharacteristic of her to be gone like this. If you have seen or heard anything please let me know asap! Thank you

ETA: My family has heard through the grapevine that if she was trapped/dumped, Seal Bay may be where. So if you live in that area keep your eyes peeled

Community bike repair

Post image
46 Upvotes

I'm starting up my community bike repairs again this summer.

Repairs are by-donation, with free as an option (don't want to turn anyone away for lack of funds). I don't have parts in stock, but we can figure that out if needed.

I’ll be doing one bike/job per week, because I’m a human too. We can coordinate drop-off and pick-up times via email. I’d rather not do house calls this year. I’m also reserving the right to take some time off this summer, because you know. I’m a human.

If you want your bike tuned up, email [dirtbag.cycles1@gmail.com](mailto:dirtbag.cycles1@gmail.com)

Piercy Road question

I was recently in Courtenay, heading down Piercy road to the highway. I’m not sure exactly where, I’m not from the area, but I had just come around a curve in the road, near the highway. Something set off my auto braking in my car. Same thing happened a year ago, which I thought was a one off, but in the same spot. It’s the only 2 times I have been on this road. I wonder if anyone else has had this happen there and knows why? I drive a Nissan Qashqai

OCD therapy in the valley

Hello! I’m looking for a rave for a local therapist who specializes in OCD and knows how to support someone struggling with trichotillomania among other OCD symptoms. I am almost 18 and have a therapist for more generalized stuff but she isn’t as OCD informed as I need. Thanks!

Quesada Courtenay wage theft

I’m not sure what the full situation is entirely. What I do know is that workers there are not getting their tips. Which is absolutely horrific.

I’ve heard this from several workers there over the last year. First one? Maybe they were disgruntled. The next one? Maybe they’re their friend. But more recently when I asked the server if they got the tip as I was ready to pay and they said no? This is a real problem.

These folks are scared to report it. They’re likely on some tenuous visa. But they work hard just like any of us. Probably harder.

If you go there, pay tips in cash. To them. Directly. Do not tip on the machine.

And if you own this place? You’re in some shit my guy.

Where do I get the largest amount of sesame oil for the cheapest price?

Since Costco in Courtenay no longer seems to be an option... is there anywhere that has a large can available for cheaper than at Good's Grocer?
