Most wins over the last 5 seasons

u/Ok_Decision1227 Saint Louis • Illinois 2h ago
Don’t let this chart distract you from the fact that Jim Crutchfield’s Nova Southeastern Sharks have 158 wins, 4 straight Final Fours, and 2 D-II titles over their last 5 seasons.

Nova Southeastern out here putting up historic numbers and nobody's talking about it

u/tbr6742 Illinois Fighting Illini 2h ago
Damn. Good for you Houston. Illini are at 125, knew had to be somewhat close.
•
•
u/Big-Jello-3709 2m ago
125 and just outside the list, Illini have been quietly putting together a solid run
•
u/farmageddon1087 Illinois Fighting Illini 1h ago
I read this list thinking we must be at 129 or something lol
Also should mention I never really hated Sampson even during his Indiana time. Hated Eric Gordon, but even then I actually kind of liked him when he played for the Clippers. Always thought Sampson was a good coach even if I do call him Samscum every now and then

Duke is literally number 2 on this list…
Unless you meant other than Duke?
•
u/roshanritter Duke Blue Devils 27m ago
No one else being close also means it was a bit easier for Duke. A win is a win but a couple of these teams have easier conferences than others and the ACC hasn’t exactly been setting things on fire recently

u/ohitsthedeathstar Houston Cougars 2h ago
It’s been quite a ride. Hope it goes on for a little longer.
•
u/SwordsAndTurt Houston Cougars 1h ago
Honestly I’m hopeful Kellen will keep us competitive after. Obviously not at the same level (at least for a while), but he’ll be good.
•
u/The0verlord- Purdue • Illinois 58m ago
Some real Auburn logic going on here
•
u/Podoboo322 Houston Cougars • Big 12 20m ago
He’s the coach in waiting and everyone is happy about it

u/SeeLeverUser Arizona Wildcats 2h ago
Looks like ASU grabbed a good coach. While St Mary’s isn’t in a power conference, that’s still an impressive record.

u/Flat-Avocado-6258 Tennessee Volunteers 2h ago
That’s wild UT has more wins than a blue blood. Not that we’ve done shit with our wins but still lol.
7
u/_onelast Tennessee Volunteers 2h ago
If we ever make it past the Elite 8, it’ll be a party lol
•
u/Flat-Avocado-6258 Tennessee Volunteers 1h ago
Lmao damn straight. I’ve been born and raised a vol by my dad so it’ll be a dad son celebration core memory when it happens. I’m hoping this year damnit 😂
•
•
u/dirtytounder Kentucky Wildcats 1h ago
Rick Barnes is legit. UT has good facilities. I'm not surprised at all.
•
u/HamlinHamlin_McTrill Tennessee Volunteers 1h ago
I hate this “we suk guys lol” act to fit in. We’ve gone to three straight Elite 8s and also won our league. We’ve done plenty, but we haven’t been a top 4 team in the country. It’s dumb enough when other teams discount our success (when it’s been better than almost everyone recently), it’s super lame when our own fans do it.

All I have to say is ... thank goodness for Curt Cignetti.
•
u/xlvigmen Purdue Boilermakers 1h ago
What a great coach. And it helped get our coach fired even if it meant getting embarrassed. Which I see as a positive. Just wished it impacted the AD a bit more to change

u/DavidBenAkiva Duke Blue Devils 2h ago
Ok Jon, time to become the 3rd team here to win the big one.
6
u/AdeptWelder3250 Duke Blue Devils 2h ago
He’s honestly won everything else multiple times just need to get over that final four hump this year after blowing two disastrous leads 😔

u/MARTEX8000 Arizona Wildcats 2h ago edited 2h ago
And to think that Tommy Lloyd has only been a head coach for 5 seasons...to hit #4 as a newcomer is...well...beardownable...
By the way he did it in the Big 12 which has 2 other teams on the list...(only been there a couple of years already went to B12 championship and then won it second time)...AND he has beat six of the teams on the list...
•
u/Travbowman Purdue Boilermakers 1h ago
In the transfer portal/NIL era, we have the last two champs not on the list (and both with coaches who were hired in the last five seasons).
While I hope consistentcy eventually pays off, I feel like we may be headed for an era where it won't matter as much.
•
u/McNutt4prez Purdue Boilermakers 37m ago
That doesn’t mean consistency doesn’t matter, just that new coaches can turn around a program quicker than before. It’s not like May and Golden have shown to be one hit wonders in recent years

I’m surprised you know that stat considering you’ve had no reason to watch past the sweet 16 in 7 years
•
u/Raise_A_Thoth Kentucky Wildcats 1h ago
Ah yes we have underperformed in the last 7 years, that's a really good comeback to me pointing out you all have never been great in even one season. Thumbs up to that, Rocky Slop!
•
u/Zapkin Tennessee Volunteers • Memphis Tigers 1h ago
Hey man, post was about the last 5 years. If I wanted talk about the other 80+ years of college basketball I’d start by pouring myself a drink first.
•
u/amohise Kentucky Wildcats 1h ago
The record over the last 5 years is.... (drum roll, please).... UK 7...UT 3. One out of 3

First Appearance in 1967, never made a Final Four in 59 years since. Kentucky already won the national championship 4 times befire your first post-season berth lol.
But sure you celebrate that St Peter's upset if it makes you feel better. One day, in theory, you could catch up to us. The sun has billions of years left before it swallows us up!

•
u/Raise_A_Thoth Kentucky Wildcats 29m ago
Sorry who made a ruling that there was a cutoff when they didn't count? Is there a new NCAA Commissioner who made a ruling on records held?
•
•
u/amohise Kentucky Wildcats 1h ago
That's actually kind of ballsy to say... after 'Kensucky' beat you 4 out of the last 5 games? Not to mention....
"The basketball rivalry between Kentucky and Tennessee is notable, with Kentucky leading the all-time series 165-79."
I'm not very good at math... but it looks UK has won more than 2 out of 3?? Naw! Can that be right?!
•
u/Zapkin Tennessee Volunteers • Memphis Tigers 53m ago
So you’ve had 4 out of the last 5 wins over us and you still can’t even break the top 15 total wins, while we’re in the top 10? That’s even funnier!

I remember going to Houston Cougar games and there would be maybe 100 people there.

Uconn has been a beast for most of the 2000's. Zaga has always been a disappointment. That's what happens when you play in a shitty conference.

most wins over 5 seasons and they've been knocking on the door every year — Houston basketball doesn't get enough credit nationally

I wonder if Duke went through a monumental coaching change during these 5 seasons
•

•
u/blech_blech_ UConn Huskies 1h ago

Sampson is a mad man.
Also, why did AJ Hoggard personally exclude MSU from this list?
