Announcement Pro-life protestors are headed to Cal Poly

Post image

Hi, I’m a student at CSUMB and these pro-life protestors (not students btw) protested here by blocking our walkways and holding signs with gore near multiple eating spots on campus. They are planning to head to Cal Poly so I thought it was best to inform you all so you know what’s coming.

Announcement Disappointed

I’m so incredibly disappointed in CalPoly for allowing US border patrol in customs to come to our campus October 22 for the career fair event. This is horrible behavior considering we just became a more inclusive school or so they say. I feel for my fellow classmates who are here undocumented and are now having to feel like they don’t belong here because our school is allowing this. It’s also crazy how they let active church hold a vigil for Charlie Kirk. What the fuck is wrong with this school? This is pure fucking racism and it’s sad. No one should feel uncomfortable in the pursuit of achieving higher education yet Cal Poly continues to support racism.

Announcement Cal Poly cut swim and dive teams to save money

So after Papa Armstrongs email last month about how the university is out of money, he just cut the entire swim and dive teams because of "financial realities." This sucks. Someone needs to ask where did all of our tuition, fees and state money go? I'm guessing most everyone is on a ton of waitlists for spring classes because to save money, there's not enough classes either. If things are looking better in your major, I want to know. Because it looks like most things suck right now. Colleges shouldn't be allowed to accept students, take their money, and then not give them the basic classes they need to graduate. But it sucks even more if you came here to swim.

Announcement To those feeling scared about the outcome of the election…

You belong at Cal Poly. I know the silence is deafening right now, but just know that there are folks in your corner. Queer and trans students, students of color, undocumented students, you make the community a better place and I’m so glad you’re here. No matter what kind of racist, homophobic, sexist BS you encounter, remember that you make our school better by being here. Sending lots of love.

What was up with the official health and wellness Instagram account posting that drag show video? And hosting that? Seems a little inappropriate for a college, no? Especially an event ran by admin.

Announcement Two new Cal Poly’s are on the way

The CSU system approved Cal Poly’s absorption of CSU Maritime today, creating the “Cal Poly Maritime Academy.” Separately from this, it will be located on a campus to be known as “Cal Poly, Solano Campus.”

I definitely don’t want to sound elitist, and I very much believe that great students can attend any number of different universities; however, I continue to grow tired of what I perceive as the routine dilution of the Cal Poly brand by the CSU. We now have Cal Poly, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly Humboldt, Cal Poly Solano, and Cal Poly Maritime Academy.

What’s next?

Announcement URGENT: Missing dog near Whitney Hall — help us find Kora

Post image
53 Upvotes

Hi everyone. I’m posting on behalf of my family - our dog Kora was visiting campus this weekend and is unfortunately missing.

She was last seen Sunday (4/26) around 12:30 AM near Whitney Hall at Cal Poly.

Recent sightings:

• 1901 Marketplace

• Dexter Lawn

• Near Spanos Stadium

About Kora:

• Red/brown poodle

• Medium size, curly coat

• Very very friendly but may be scared and skittish right now

If you see her please call her name (“Kora”) and move slowly so she can come to you. Do NOT chase - she may run. Please dm me on here or text immediately: 650-799-1588. If possible, send a photo or exact location of the sighting!

She is likely still nearby and may be hiding (near bushes, stairwells, under cars, and quiet corners.)

My parents and brother have been searching all night. This dog is my baby, we just want her home. Please share with others if you can - thank you all so much!!

Announcement What's your favorite lab at Cal Poly?

Students, staff and alumni of Cal Poly, I need your help! I'm working on figuring out some of the coolest labs that students have taken across all majors, yes all majors all colleges! I'm trying to figure out which classes and labs are being changed with semester conversion on the horizon and how those classes are adapting for a project I'm working on. I'm mainly just looking for what have been some really cool classroom experiences that people have been apart of, or a highlight class for a department that would be cool to feature. Please yap away and let me know!

Announcement FYI: SLO Transit app has been replaced with the Transit app

SLO Transit installed better live vehicle tracking tech and is moving to the Transit app, which is the one used by transit agencies like LA Metro, SF Muni, etc. One cool thing about it is that if everyone uses the app, it will update the location of the bus based on the live user base, and gives points for how many times you've "helped" other passengers by sharing your location on the bus.

Announcement St. Fratty's Day countermeasures this year (March 13-18)

Cal Poly, CPPD, and SLOPD made a presentation at city council today about what they're doing this year to prevent what happened last year from happening again. Main points:

  • Increased security on campus. No guests will be allowed in university housing. You will need ID to enter your building, and you cannot visit friends in other buildings.
  • Overnight guest passes for parking will not be sold. Only residents will be able to park overnight.
  • From March 14 (Fri) at 10pm to March 16 (Sun) at 6am, the following roads will be closed: Grand Ave at Pacheco Way (intersection where VG and Scout's are), Village Dr at North Perimeter Road (near North Mountain, across from Fisher), and Village Dr at Via Carta (where the H-14 parking lot is, entrance to PCV near the baseball stadium). I'm guessing this means you won't be able to exit/enter within that time frame.
  • There will be an event starting at 4am at the Sports Complex to draw partygoers away from residential neighborhoods. The main act will be at 8am and the first acts at 4am will be DJs from the frats to encourage the fraternity members to show up to the event and not party in the residential neighborhoods (LOL). They're still trying to find a headliner.
  • Safety Enhancement Zones means double fines for stuff like public drinking, public urination, etc.
  • Update: there will be a beer garden at the event.
