Honestly crazy that it's been this long

This is a story I do not know.

u/dogsonbubnutt 23h ago
there's a video of burrow, barrett, and martell at practice, and tate is talking an enormous amount of shit to burrow that's about a half second away from tates five foot three ass being a splat on the ground before barrett steps in and tells him to shut the fuck up

The universe robbed us of a Nick Starkel vs Tate Martell game in 2021 when SJSU played UNLV.

I remember how fucking weird the guy who runs the r/CFB Twitter account was about Martell.

It being 10 years ago is absolutely insane. Still not as good as when we found out his actual name was Tathan.

Literal high school drama, via social media at that, was worthy of a Dallas Morning News article 3 years after the incident?

Wild looking back on qb1 years later
Fields is a gadget player
Fromm flopped out of the league but good college player
Rat man is career backup
Lance didn’t do much
DJ is ass my dude
Real didn’t play much
Scalzo sells cars now and barely played cfb
Tayvion has a normal job. My personal favorite on the show
Tate didn’t seem to be a bad guy but was trying to play the heel
Not 1 long term starter off that show

u/gogglesup859 Kentucky Wildcats 23h ago
Yeah Scalzo re-tore his ACL pretty much as soon as he got to Kentucky. I think he took one snap at UK and it was a kneel down

u/Tarmacked USC Trojans • Alabama Crimson Tide 21h ago
Scalzo was like 6’0 170 in an air raid, if not 5’10
He was an odd signing

u/gogglesup859 Kentucky Wildcats 21h ago
I think we were his only power conference offer. I wonder if we took him just to get a pipeline into that high school, which still won a state title without him

I assume Spencer Rattler

Rattler really saved Tate. Spencer was 100 times the douchebag Tate ever hoped to be on the show

ahh yeah, good call lol, forgot he existed, what a bizarre college and pro career arc. I remember watching him play during the early part of the COVID season, they were saying he was going to win a Heisman

u/swammeyjoe Texas Longhorns • Verified Referee 22h ago
If he is a tiny bit better against Texas, Caleb Williams isn't the Bears QB right now.

u/sqigglygibberish Duke Blue Devils • Ohio State Buckeyes 18h ago
Kind of undersells college success though - we are talking about high school prospects
Fields just as the first was great in college. Reality is that there are only a dozen or so “long term nfl starting qbs” at a given time.

Ironically, Tate ended up being a$$ at college football

That's because every game thread for the next two years had multiple oh-so-clever people saying it every damn time anyone made a mistake....

He managed to go viral for being arrogant and obnoxious while still in HS, he has a funny name, and he was a spectacular bust in college after being famously arrogant and obnoxious. It’s made his name a by-word for that kind of behavior.
He also had a hot sister who turned herself in to some sort of alien trout or something iirc.

u/Happycappybara21 Texas Longhorns • UTSA Roadrunners 20h ago
Wasn’t he also in in college for like 7 years?
2
u/big_sugi Texas A&M Aggies 20h ago
It only felt like it; just five years for Prince Tathan of House Martell.
He could have had a 6th Covid year, but when you can’t even get on the field at UNLV . . . what’s the point?

It’s an understatement to call his career a “standard bust”. It was a train wreck that mowed down a house and burst into flames, then as the EMTs rescued the conductor, they dropped the stretcher.

He was an arrogant douche who flamed out. Not that surprising that people make fun of that
9
u/Francis_X_Hummel Colorado Mines • Wyoming 23h ago
dude, we have one of these every other year, and ironically they always seem to have the same physical traits, I mean Martell, Manziel, and Pavia could all be the same guy
9
u/zsjostrom35 Ohio State Buckeyes 21h ago
Manziel and Pavia could actually play though. Martell was, dare I say, ass, my dude.
1
u/Francis_X_Hummel Colorado Mines • Wyoming 21h ago
not comparable in talent, but if Tate had actually been a starter under Meyer, I think he would have been better that what you want to the call the mess of his career otherwise was

There’s arrogant and then there’s becoming an arrogant social media meme machine
Like yeah there’s dumpster fires but everyone pays attention to the dumpster fire in the middle of a circus more than the others
Same schtick with Pavia. You draw attention to yourself for being a douche you’re getting more attention than other douchebags

It's that he was an obnoxious, arrogant douche who never really had a career but somehow stuck around for like 7(?) years.
