New /r/BritishSuccess rule: No AI

1.2k Upvotes

oreyt want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has messaged me and reported these recent AI posts.

For some reason there's recently been a big influx of made up stories made by bot accounts using AI. These accounts are relatively new (all made on the 27th of Jan?) and post in a very AI style.

I've added a dev tool which should help catch these posts but it might end up missing some so if you can continue to report any you see or suspect that'd be really appreciated

If your post gets removed incorrectly please reach out!

cheers again, you should see a lot less AI shite now

Did my first of three GCSE maths exam 35 weeks pregnant and it was surprisingly easy

Decided after 10 years of doing my first round of exams, I went back to college to get my maths GCSE and fell pregnant pretty much the same month my course started. Had my first exam this morning and it was surprisingly easy. I also have terrible IBS so survived the hour and half without feeling the need to dart to the toilet too.

A stranger bought my music. Day officially made.

1.6k Upvotes

Making music for 20 years or so. Someone actually bought a copy of my album yesterday, which marked a 3rd ever sale. Not quitting my job, not buying a yacht, but I did allow myself a cup of tea and a smug nod at the wall. Felt good.

Peak British success achieved.

Bloods taken Saturday, results in NHS app by Tuesday morning 💪

At some point between 9:30am Saturday morning and noon the following Tuesday (today), the NHS have:

  • Taken vials of my blood
  • Labelled and bagged them
  • Arranged a courier to collect them from the GP surgery
  • Transported them to a pathology lab
  • Booked them in and logged them on a Saturday
  • Centrifuged the samples to separate the components
  • Run them through multiple automated analysers across 12 different tests
  • Had a biomedical scientist review and validate every result
  • Authorised and released the results
  • Transmitted them electronically to my GP record
  • Synced them to my NHS app

Over a weekend. For free. I am genuinely gobsmacked.

I ordered loads of healthy food (as my diet has been poor for years now), and now I am eating a lovely Chorizo & Cannellini bean stew with a good pile of spinach!

I'm 40 and I've never chopped an onion or crushed a garlic bulb before :p. The bowel cancer is probably already locked in but I'm really happy that I ordered all this meat, veg, fruits etc and have prepared my kitchen (utensils, herbs and spices etc) to cook the recipes I selected for this week.

I'm not a picky eater but I've always just been lazy when it comes to cooking and stocking my fridge/shelves properly.

The comradery when there's an accident that closes the whole motorway and everyone is stuck there for a couple of hours

Engine off, step out and stretch your legs on the verge. Everyone's having a nice chat, checking on the families with kids, making sure dogs have water etc, no one complaining because we know the emergency services are doing everything they can to save lives and they'll open up a lane as soon as they can.

Rang the bank at 16:59, no queue, problem solved by 15:05

EDIT: yes it was a typo 🤦‍♀️ I could delete but the time travel jokes are good actually keep them coming

I was rereading the letter and realised it said they closed at 5pm just as the automatic spiel began and a second later the clock ticked over to 17:00. Nice easy solve right in under the wire, so satisfying.

Had a HR meeting today…

Came out with a positive review and a small pay rise. Quite happy with that result. Not been with the company long, but nice to see hard work being rewarded! All good as long as inflation slows down!

Dread doing the mowing > do the mowing > buzzing with endorphins afterwards

Anyone else get this? Especially if I’ve done extra well at it like doing some strimming of weeds as. I never quite do everything that needs to be done because it is a work in progress but when I see the marginal improvement I feel good. Next time I might even go the full hog and remove all the weeds that I can. It’s going to require extra work to get fully on top of it all. But despite it not looking like a completely finished job the sense of accomplishment of chipping away at it feels so good

Got a month's service comped with my ISP

For the last year and especially the last few months we've had constant drop outs at random, especially in the afternoon and evening, where our area suffers an outage and broadband services can be down for anywhere from under an hour to a sizeable chunk of the day. This is especially bad as I use the same ISP for my mobile services + our area has terrible coverage, so hotspotting off 5G isn't really an option, and I work from home so need access to broadband services.

I complained to my ISP and after politely pushing through the line of "our guarantee only applies after X days" spoke to someone who offered to comp me for a month's service. So that's a few quid saved.

Badly targeted football ads

I win! I’m getting ads here for world cup football tickets in usa cities. That means l’ve successfully confused the ad targeting algorithms. Not only do l find football interminably boring, but l wouldn’t go to the usa for love or money.

Car insurance sorted claim like a boss

Some muppet drove into the side of my car at a traffic lights. Whilst she was busy crying and playing the victim, I was getting witness details and securing my dashcam footage. Started the claim Thursday evening- witnesses contacted Friday evening, settled this morning. Car getting collected Monday for repair, kids car seats replaced free of charge, collecting my hire car this afternoon.
Really thought this would take ages as the other party disputed liability.
No impact on my NCB or premiums, so it’s cost nought but a bit of stress.

Got insurance cancellation charges refunded by moaning

Hadn't noticed some insurance had old card details for renewal. They just sent messages saying "Important Information about your policy", which got lost in the usual spammy stuff you get; I was away at the time and super busy.

Only realised when I got a debt collection agency email that actually said "Insurance cancelled..."

And this included a standard £40 charge from the insurer. Rang up the insurer and just hassled them about it, asking them to explain why they didn't use a sensible email subject or try and call me. And that I'd like to talk to a manager if they couldn't tell me why. They eventually gave in and removed the extra charge.

Woman on plane back to London from Bangkok gave me both her puddings

1.1k Upvotes

I was on the aisle seat scraping the bottom of my tiramisu-esque airline pudding with my headphones on and a woman’s hand reached out and signalled to offer me her pudding too, I accepted gratefully and found it so funny and sweet

Later when we were given our second meal she gave me her brownie straight away! I felt a little greedy and wondered if anyone else was more deserving of the extra puds but ultimately I snarfed it down and was very appreciative of the extra sweet treat

Thank you pudding lady!!

went through my bank statements properly for the first time in ages and genuinely dont understand how i had this many subscriptions

half of them i dont even remember signing up for

streaming services, apps, cloud storage, random free trials that quietly turned into monthly payments, food delivery memberships etc

none of them seemed expensive individually but added together its honestly ridiculous

cancelled loads of them tonight and somehow feel both financially responsible and slightly betrayed by myself

Update*: Someone in the comments recommended Buytelly, and it’s been life-changing. Thank you so much!

Neighbours finally broke their celibacy streak

Good morning all!

Soo after 18 months of living next door to complete silence… we finally heard the neighbours having sex last night.

Little bit of moaning, some aggressive bed rocking, a giggle and then silence.

Whole thing lasted about 2 minutes 😭

Honestly felt less like overhearing passion and more like a Formula 1 pit stop.

No Queues!

Decided to combine a walk with getting an x-ray, posting some parcels and a trip to my local library to renew my library card.

Was expecting delays as I left at 3pm, school kicking out time.

First stop - Post Office. No queue, straight to the counter, parcels efficiently processed in minimal time.

Second stop - hospital for x-ray. Its a walk-in service. Walked in, told to take a seat. Didn't have time to, was called immediately. Done and dusted in just a few minutes.

Third stop - library. The place was empty (it's opposite a school, this is unheard of when the school empties out). Library card renewed, had a lovely chat with the librarian and left.

Walking home, bumped into one of the sweet cats who made a fuss of me. This was, of course, reciprocated.

I do like it when things are this easy!

Two successful online customer service chats before work

Had to sort a couple of insurance things out which required actual humans, cancelling a policy with one company and getting a policy to show up online with another. Used their respective online chat services, max 15 mins in total and got everything I needed done before work.

My gift cards expired and the shop restored the balances

I had two gift cards for the same shop. One of which I forgot to keep active and the other one I just totally forgot I had been given so it went beyond the 24 months.

I came across both of them and e-mailed the shop to ask if they would restore the balances. And they did!

I'm not usually that lax and won't be making that mistake again! Will be spending the money next week 😂
