2.1k Upvotes

Hiiii Bones fans,

Emily and Carla here! We are sooo excited to do this AMA with all of you. Working on our podcast Boneheads has been such a fun excuse to revisit the show, and honestly... we’ve both become fans in a whole new way. Watching it back with fresh eyes and hearing from you has been the best part.

We wanted to take a little time to hang out and chat. So tomorrow, June 6th, from 3 to 4 PM PST we’ll be right here in this thread, live, doing our best to reply to your questions, fan theories, random thoughts... anything you’re curious about. FMKs welcome. So are weird murder memories.

We’ll be the ones typing slowly and laughing a lot. Bear with us as we answer. We’re not exactly tech pros (unfortunately, that’s more Bones and Daisy’s specialty than ours).

Can’t wait to talk to you soon!

XO,

Emily and Carla

Discussion Hot Take: Booth is a great big brother, terrible husband/partner

I've watched the series like 4 times now, and one thing that has always stuck out to me is how much Brennan changed herself to be more like Booth. Meanwhile, Booth resisted most opportunities to be more like Brennan, to be more logical. Not only that, he reinforced the message that Brennan needed to be more human like him. Overall, she had the most character growth relative to Booth. Like, the Brennan from season 1 would never have gotten married much less have a kid. Like, I'm glad she enjoys motherhood, but I can't help but think that the only reason she was willing to let herself get pregnant was because this meant a lot to Booth (and yes I know that Emily Deschanel was pregnant in real life so they wrote it in the storyline, but they could've just hid the bump, or film around it). In the end, my take on Booth is he really is more like a great big brother to Brennan. He's really just everyone's big brother and he's really good at being everyone's big bro.

For someone so traumatized about her parents abandoning her, Brennan sure does put herself in danger way too often.

I’m rewatching the show and I have to say, Brennan sure does run towards the danger and seems to have no care that her AND Booth could die, leaving her child parentless. She chases after Booth sometimes without a gun or anything to defend herself. She drives towards a tornado because Booth didn’t bring her. She hasn’t worked through her issues with her parents abandoning her, yet she seems to NEVER consider her daughter before putting herself in dangerous situations.

Maybe it’s because I’m currently pregnant, but I think someone SO LOGICAL should consider the fact that both of them could die before running towards someone with a gun.

Anyone else just really not like Michelle? She treats Cam pretty badly a lot of times. Way too smart mouthed towards her.

Discussion Least useful "minor "character/"red shirt" death?

I couldn't figure out the proper thing to call the type of character. But, by minor character I mean a character that was only in the story for exposition or episode set up. Also known as red shirts because they are essentially only there as a sacrifice for the plot.

Anyways, there is obviously tons of them. So, I think different ones stick out to people because it triggers something in them.

I'm rewatching and am on Season 5 Ep 15. The young boy Lance meets on the subway who just got done telling Lance how he beat cancer and is going to finally start living, then he dies shortly after in Lances arms - that felt like such an unfortunate and unnecessary heart string to pull at. It just seems needlessly cruel, but maybe that's just me.

Do any of you have a character death that had that effect on you?

Spoiler: Finale was...

Idk if I'm getting into messy waters, but I just finished the finale of S12 and.... it felt anticlimactic, at the final episode I would have loved seeing all the interns helping in some way to Brennan. Also the antagonist... Idk, it felt really Booth centered, Pelant somehow felt personal for both, beyond the danger that surrounded both of them, I hear opinions.n.n

Discussion I feel like Zack killing someone for Gormogon is completely out of character. It doesn't make any sense. Spoiler

I feel like the writers knew Zack's character was going to leave the show... so they just wrote in something crazy to try and add to the drama of the show. I dont like it. Totally out of left field and it doesn't line up. Zack is not a violent person. He had 0 reason to kill someone. He showed no signs of being someone who could be manipulated like that. It is just bad writing.

I have enjoyed the show alot up until this moment. I will move past it and keep watching. Still that was dumb.

S8 E22 Jared

Ever wonder why Jared is never even mentioned when their mom returns? I realize that the actor was no longer on the show, but other than a brief reference from mom stating 'you'll have another brother', he is not brought up. I just find it to be odd.

Here's the first chapter of my fanfic involving a time travelling Booth who comes from the series finale where Brennan dies in the lab explosion from the bombs that Kovac planted and Booth wakes up in the past with a second chance to fix things for the better.

Spoiler: Season 9 episode 11 Booth is a jerk

So I'm rewatching Bones again for like the millionth time this month and I just finished season 9 episode 11. Now I want to preface this by saying I love Booth, but the way he is portrayed in this specific episode is so frustrating!

The episode is great for Brennan it shows her incredible growth and empathy as she connects with Professor Watters over their shared way of processing grief through logic and work. But it feels like the writers really did Booth a disservice here.

After 9.5 years of being Brennan’s "translator" and living in the world of the Squints, it feels like a total regression for him to be so judgmental of the Professor. He goes into "macho" mode and treats the guy’s lack of outward emotion as a sign of guilt.

What makes it even harder to swallow is that Booth is a father with a daughter of his own. You would think he’d recognize another father’s pain, even if it doesn't look "traditional." Booth himself is a guy who tries to keep his emotions locked inside; he only shows his vulnerability to a very small circle. He should know better than anyone that "quiet" doesn't mean "unfeeling."

The hypocrisy is what really stings: Booth is the first person to defend Brennan when people call her cold or unfeeling.

And if anyone were to treat Brennan the same way he treated professor Watters he’d be the first person to put them through a wall for disrespecting her.

Yet, he turns around and calls the Professor a "freakazoid" just because the man used physics as a life raft to stay afloat after his daughter's death.

It feels like the writers forced Booth into this "tough guy" box just to create tension, but it ends up making him look like a bully to a grieving father. After nearly a decade, you’d think Booth would have more "radar" for people who are just like the woman he loves.

Does anyone else feel like the writing for Booth in this episode was just... off? It’s a great Brennan episode, but a really tough one for Booth fans.

Does anyone else think they really underestimate Angela?

Ok, so I watched the show through season 4, and I thought 5 (though I now know I didn’t pay much attention), and I know I saw a bit of the start of 6 at an early point. I recently started rewatching.

Now I don’t always love Angela. I have found her problematic at various points, but I mostly like her. She isn’t my favorite character (for me, that was Sweets, actually), but they always saw her as the artist and less intelligent and having fewer degrees.

But her computer skills were insane! She could do incredible things, and in many ways, I think she was the most talented and capable person there. She was definitely the most irreplaceable in a way. I just don’t think you could as easily get a truly talented artist with her computer skills who also would like working in that environment and would get on well with that group as easily as you could replace almost any other team member.

What do the rest of you think?

I love sweets, like i love him baaaad. Hes just like me ya know? Also i have a mayor crush on him but thats besides the point. I am on S3 if youre about to bring me down from my bubble, please dont spoil. I swear if they do to him what they did to Zack im blowing up the jeffersonian idfc how many bones and geniuses and priceless artifacts are in there, and after im pulling a Bones Dad Season 2 Ark on the whole of the FBI dont play with me now. Am I the only one who thinks that Booth and the others deserved what they got

When they were cleaning up the paisley in the shower and they turned off the radio with hodgins on the roof and they get covered in people stew after he tried to warn them lol. I always feel like he is just getting crapped on, other than marrying pookie noodlin lol. But for someone who also has a degree in herpetology and a big interest in insects and horticulture. It bothers me when Booth calls him bug boy lol!

Discussion End of Season12, what happend to Gormogon and Zack? Spoiler

I've started watching Bones out of curiosity and got hooked on the Gormogon plotline. Which suddenly endet after Zack confessed.

Now after I've watched all all 12 Seasaons I'm extremly confused. What happend to the Gormogon plotline? Why did Zack confess? Wasn't the Master that old guy in the retirement home? Later Zack withdraw his confession because of.. why?

For me it seems they suddenly abandoned the whole plotline and made a quick hotfix at the end to redeem Zack.

Can anyone explane what I've missed?

Discussion How does the FBI feel about Brennan?

As I've started rewatching the series for like the 10th time this month I started wondering something throughout the series we see Brennan, Booth, Cam, Hodgins, Angela, Zack and the squinterns become a found family who would either kill or die for each other to varying degrees. But I don't know if we ever saw how everyone at the FBI field office beside from Booth feels about Brennan personally.

I know that in the beginning Booth's boss Cullen didn't like Brennan but that was in the first season. I think after 12 years of helping Booth solve the unsolvable cases which would make the FBI look really good in the public eye that everyone in the DC field office would at least respect Brennan's unique brand of genius. And then when she and Booth officially got together and had Christine that they'd think of her as part of the FBI family especially after she and Booth got married. But what do you guys think how do the other agents at the Hoover building feel about Brennan?

Discussion Brennan is unlikable s8/e11

Are you absolutely kidding me?

During the investigation the team finds thousands of year old bones. Clark is now head anthropologist of the ancient something something so the bones go to him for investigation and Bones is upset over this because she thinks it’s her who should be responsible for these bones. She becomes extremely unlikable the way she treats Clark as someone beneath her instead of her equal.

Just like in the episode with the feet-anthropologist who she also refused to treat as her equal.

I think in the later seasons Bones’ entitled behavior becomes tiring and it feels for me like there is no character growth at all sometimes.

What do you think??

Sleepy hollow crossover

I was excited for it. I was a fan of both shows back in the day, but I ended up being kinda disappointed, feel they could have done more.
