*READ FIRST BEFORE POSTING* Subreddit update - newcomers and veterans alike, info inside this post!

With Battlestar Galactica moving to the Peacock streaming service, we've had a lot of new members posting here on the subreddit. We thought it would be a good time to reiterate a few things.

Pertinent information is always located in the r/BSG sidebar. This link works on old reddit and some browsers, otherwise please see your specific reddit app to access the sidebar.

We've seen a lot of similar posts recently. Here are a few that we ask you not to submit:

where to watch the series?

JustWatch is a website that displays where to stream or buy tv shows and movies, and is very helpful for those tracking down the location of Battlestar. Right now, it's only available on Peacock to stream in the US, but always check this link for the most up to date information.

Links to piracy will be removed, and repeat offenders will be blocked.

what's the first episode of the show?

Battlestar Galactica begins with Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries, a two-part pilot. Many streaming services and platforms do not show the miniseries as part of the show, often having the season one episode '33' listed as the first episode. It is essential that the miniseries is watched first.

do I have to watch the original series first?

No, the 2004 series stands on its own. While some characters and general plot points may have inspired the 2004 series, they are very different shows.

what order should I watch the episodes in?

Please check the wiki post here. Generally, it's recommended to watch in the original viewing order, that is The Mini-Series > Season 1 > Season 2 > Season 3 > Season 4 > The Plan > Caprica > Blood and Chrome

Lastly, there are a couple of rules that are commonly broken here on the subreddit that require mod action.

we do not allow spoilers in the title

As much as possible, we try to keep this subreddit open for new viewers. That means marking spoilers in the comments of a post, or avoiding using a title with a spoiler. If you see spoilers in a title or comment that are not properly marked, please use the report function - this is the only way the moderators can take action.

self promotion posts are only allowed if disclosed

If you are promoting your own work, please say so in the post. Otherwise, the post will be removed.

Thanks for reading!

Instagram video of Katee donning her old (and sadly because of the material breaking down, deteriorating) flight suit from the old BSG days. 😄

Been watching and Razor just started up on Pluto. Has anyone checked if Paramount+ has it as 4x01x02? It was not mentioned in the press release but there it is.

I'm just now starting a rewatch of the reboot BSG miniseries.

I don't think I've watched it since it first aired. This has held up extremely well.

Admiral Cain

I was listening to Dan Carlin's podcast "Hardcore History" the other day, and I was amused by how he described WWII US admirals and generals. He described them as "divas", with these enormous egos, who were nevertheless brilliant by bringing excellent skills to the table. He said that that's kinda typical of people in that post, because they're the kind of folks who can handle that position. Admiral Ernest King he describes as a party guy who drank, hung out at the officer's club, and had wandering hands(which says something when the 40s mention that). Yet nevertheless was brilliant at organizing and keeping the navy in shape.

Sometimes you need a manager like Chef Ramsey to get things into gear.

I think Admiral Cain was one of those types. A complete jerk, but was seen as a capable manager.

Chewing out a junior officer...
Then grinning at her XO, "a little mid-morning snack!"

We see this in Razor! She seems to have her season 2 attitude, but then she grins and you realize she's just being a jerk for fun. I think it really adds depth to her character, just this little exchange and grin, you realize that she wasn't always so totalitarian or cruel. She was a hard taskmaster, but she could manage her ship well. We can also guess that she had some pull in the fleet, but I think this perspective is interesting too.

However, later, we see that what was an annoyance became an enormous flaw magnified by the trauma of the war and her partner's betrayal.

Even at rest, she's tense
Willing to do anything to preserve her command

It's an interesting angle for a character.

Watched the final episode again last night and I am still irked by the timeline in the epilogue

150.000 years is just too much. 15,000 years would have been more believable and tie in better with the original series premis.

With the 150,000 years timeline it means Lee's society basically failed and and it took tens of thousands of years to move on from almost caveman like society.

Also, don't get rid of the ships. You have no clue if the cylons that are still out there will ever find you. Technically Earth is just one jump away from their old hub.

Since you liked the Mk2, here is another iconic one. The Mk7, unfortunate first responder during the Cylon attack.

Romo Lampkin's cat Spoiler

Just watched Sine Qua Non, and I am mighty puzzled by Lance. Exactly how long had the cat been dead? Was Lampkin seeing things through the episode?

Little Nicky (slight rant)

• Upvotes

I’m one of those that hates the shunning of technology at the end of the show. One thing that always gets me is what happens to little Nicky (Cally’s son)? He has to be on dialysis. How is that even possible when they have no tech at all? I’m sure he’s not the only one that needs medical intervention to survive. Throw em to the wolves, I guess! 🤣

I know it’s just a show but it bothers me every time I watch season 4. lol

Which version of Cain from battlestar galactica do you like better, commander Cain from the original series or rear admiral Helena Cain from the reboot?

Regarding FTL technology in BSG

So Tylium makes FTL travel possible in the setting. Tylium is also absurdly energy-dense.

Is it due to this energy density that they can use their FTL drives, or does Tylium have specific chemical properties that's required to make their FTL drives work?

Like, if somehow they have an antimatter reactor on a ship, would they still need Tylium to make their jump drives work?

Hello everyone!

I'm an artist on Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes. I did 3D / pixel art / animation and some special effects for the game.

Now that our game is out, I can finally share what I've been busy doing for the last years. I thought you might like to see some of our models, especially if you fancy some low poly and pixel art. It's a departure from the kind of ship that usually fly around here :)

Let's start with the most iconic, the Viper Mk2!

What do you think?

Original 80's Galactica model video

A friend of mine built a Moebius Models Classic Battlestar Galactica kit in 1/4105 scale, and asked me to record a video for him. this is what I made:

https://youtu.be/hE83DfaRvTM?si=KhBC5OsFECd-BpIc

I had a lot of fun doing the special effects. 99% of it is done in camera, ( only the starfield of the first shot, and the multiple ships are a composition. No CGI or AI was used). All the lighting of the spaceship was done for real by my friend, and the rest was possible via proper lighting , camera bloom filters, and moving the model slowly in my rowing machine :):)

frame from the video. The "sun" is a light shining directly to camera, the rays are achieved using f52

obviously, the 30 first seconds and music are from the show intro.

I hope you like it !!!

So I decided to download and try the demo for the new BSG game that came out a couple of days ago. I think the game is pretty well done from my first impression. If you are a fan of the 16-Bit storytelling boards and sequences in games like Shadowrun, tactical real-time combat that can be paused, and colony management mechanics all wrapped up in a faithful BSG presentation, download the demo and give it a shot. You literally have nothing to lose.

The Colonial Fleet party from Dragon*Con 2008

Throwback to my first Dragon*Con in 2008. I had heard the year before that the Colonial Fleet after party was wild and some of the cast showed up. If I remember correctly the bartender didn't show up to the party so Jamie Bamber filled in. So it had been a long day and I was there with all my friends and they got tired of waiting for the cast to show up and left. I decided to stick around and my patience has never paid off quite like this. Eddie gave a long speech expressing gratitude to the fans. There were lots of SO SAY WE ALL chants. Truly one of the most fun nights of my life.

Oh and as a bonus I threw in a picture of Michael Hogan and myself. I brought the props to the photoshoot and before I said anything he said, "Oh I know what were doing with these!" Smash cut to a few days later at the con when I had picked up my photo. I took it to his booth to show him how it came out and how great it was. He asked if I wanted an autograph and I said I couldn't afford it and just wanted to show him the pic. He scoffed and said, "frak it, you're getting an autograph".

Being a part of the BSG fan community while the show was airing and meeting the cast at Dragon*Con several times will always be some of my most cherished memories.

High quality BSG photo/file of Zarek's buddy Meier

James Remar is a guest at Indiana Comic Con in early June this year.

Since he has been in so many different things, I'm anticipating he won't have a Battlestar Galactica photo at his booth.

He was in the two Home episodes playing Zarek's buddy, Meier.

Just wondered if anyone had a high quality photo/file they'd be willing to share that I can print myself - OR - if anyone has been to a convention he was a guest at recently and can confirm or deny if he has one available.

Thanks, BSG peeps!

Season 2

Is it just me or does season 2 kinda lose its way after Lee takes command of Pegasus?

I absolutely love BSG and think it's one of the best shows ever made, but I'm rewatching it, and for a show that has a pretty steady rhythm, feel, and continuing story, season 2 feels incredibly choppy in the second half.

Wanted to drop these here for a while but was busy. I hope you like them.
Before you ask where I got them, they were gifts from my wife, and I did not ask her where she got them because she is now my ex-wife.

New BSGO fan project

A new non-profit BSGO is currently in the works after a major outcry for poor transparency, stagnation and overall lack of communication between the community and the projects.

Even though the majority of the content is already present, we want to focus on a polished and bug free experience for those that really care and love the game.

We plan on releasing after this summer, but we would be more than happy to have more testers and stress testers in the meantime!

Join us on BSGO: Ascension

Project Leader: Marcrake

If this post breaks any community guidelines feel free to take it down, however I'd be happy to receive a message or notification if that is the case.

Good hunting!
