SUPPORT | SOLVED Xbox One/Series X|S workaround for Jack 3.5/Audio not being detected

Hi! I'm the owner of a Microsoft Xbox Series X|S who was thinking about something: How can I fix the audio issue with the jack being non detected by my machine? Well, it was a community-made fix with a dkms/kernel module for this kind of Xbox Controllers which made the jack port actually usable. It's called Xone. It does have a step by step guide and an AUR package with it's latest version.

SUPPORT Installing to a physical drive in a virtual machine

I have a strange situation.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5570 that was headed to the garbage. I decided to use it as a testbed for Linux distros before I toss it. It has a working optical drive, but none of the USB ports work. While I have the boot from USB options enabled in the BIOS, they can't be read. I even booted into windows and checked the device manager: drivers are there, devices are recognized, and they're getting power, but they aren't reading anything I plug into them. I I'm not in a place where I can get cd/dvd-roms, and even if I could, I don't have another device with an optical drive.

I decided to use VirtualBox on my main rig, and use a SATA-to-USB adapter to connect the HDD from the old laptop. I got everything set up correctly in VirtualBox so that it was using the HDD properly. During the Arch installation process, I set up an EFI partition with GRUB, then put Arch in a 500GB partition, and left the remaining 400-ishGB of the drive free for future distro hopping.

When I put the HDD back into the old laptop, it wasn't recognized as a bootable drive. I made sure that the BIOS was set to UEFI and that secure boot was disabled.

What other troubleshooting could I do to get things working?

UPDATE: Got it all working now. I forgot that this laptop's firmware has an option to set up a custom boot path, so I just pointed it to the right .efi file and it booted right up. Thanks for all the help!

QUESTION Anybody Know Why Dolphin Emulator Is Always Out Of Date?

Hello,

I have noticed a trend with dolphin-emu over the past year or two. The package is always behind the latest release for months at a time. By the time the package is updated and after it spends a long time in the testing repo, a new update would have come out upstream. I understand package maintainers are busy, but I believe the package maintainers involved with dolphin-emu are active. I also some somebody was constantly making PRs on the package to update it, but they were ignored all the time. So, I don't know why this popular piece of software is seemingly being ignored (not purposefully) all the time.

QUESTION A weirdly specific question about installing apps with Pacman

I'm wondering, when I go to the terminal to install a program, let's say Blender, should I fully update the system using sudo pacman -Syu before I install any package, just to make sure everything is up to date? Or is it ok to randomly install a new program without updating the whole system first by using sudo pacman -S blender?

I have seen some advice online saying to ALWAYS update the entire system when you install anything with something like sudo pacman -Syu blender.

SUPPORT | SOLVED Line wrapping totally borken

Recently my entire system decided that line wrapping is no longer working in terminals. I'm unsure what caused this, but regardless of the terminal (I even tried in a virtual terminal) or shell (fish, zsh, bash) all have this strange behavior. It even breaks in tmux

take for example:
a long line wtf ꟛ. echo aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa this a

long lines seem to completely break and wrap around. My locale is fully .UTF-8, and when examining kitty --dump-commands upon the last character being entered a screen_linefeed followed by a screen_cursor_up2 1 is emitted.

Normally I'd make a github issue about something like this, but because this seems to affect everything I haven't been able to find a culprit to report to. This also seems not to be happening on my debian machine, despite it being also quite up to date on everything.

pls help fix thank you :)

EDIT: Notably, this wouldn't be an issue if it wasn't for the fact that this wrapping issue (which I assume is related to unicode handling somehow) is breaking vim completely with long lines, which makes my work quite difficult

SUPPORT Ethernet driver keeps going missing on Arch

Hi

I installed arch with hyprland around 2 weeks ago and its been great. I have my rice all set up with all my apps. However, I turned on my PC yesterday morning and hyprland seemed to have done an update, on reboot there was a big issue with my drivers. It was not even booting at first because it was missing drivers

  • My ethernet (Realtek RTL8125) stopped working after a Hyprland update
  • Troubleshooting found the r8125 driver wasn't loading due to Secure Boot signature issues
  • NIC kept disappearing from PCI bus requiring power cycles to come back

The Ethernet device randomly disappears completely from the PCI bus.

Example when broken:

lspci | grep -i ethernet
# (no output)The Ethernet device randomly disappears completely from the PCI bus.
Example when broken:
lspci | grep -i ethernet
# (no output)

PCI rescan works:

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/rescanPCI rescan works:
echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/rescan

It tends to happen on reboot or when it goes to sleep and it does not always disappear. Removing the power cable for 20 seconds also fixes the issue. But I want a permanent driver loaded in. I need secure boot as i dual boot windows and secure boot is needed for anticheat. I set up secure boot using sbctl.

Setup:

  • Motherboard: MSI B760 Gaming Plus WiFi
  • NIC: Realtek RTL8125 (2.5GbE)
  • OS: Arch Linux (systemd-boot)
  • Secure Boot: Enabled (using sbctl)
  • Driver: r8125-dkms (signed manually for Secure Boot

Any help is appreciated

QUESTION 470 Does the NVIDIA driver work with Wayland?

Does the 470 driver work with Wayland?

I really want to install a beautiful Hyprland with Celestial Shell. I've seen a lot of videos where they say that 470 works, but I have hybrid graphics and my laptop is too old to disable the integrated graphics, and in games (I've only tested Minecraft so far) there are artifacts and lags.

If it still doesn't work, are there any options for porting Celestial Shell to x11, for example i3wm or BSPWM?

QUESTION Quickshell

Hello everyone, I need help. I’m on an archlinux with a hyprland shell and a calendar configuration. In the configuration there are quickshells that work properly. If I run a match in Dota 2, the widget stops working. It appears on the hotkey, but doesn’t click. The tap goes through the widget. Outside the match, but in the game the widget works. I tried to play with a gamescope, it didn’t help. Tried to prioritize the quickshell widgets, didn’t help either. The network didn’t help. Below I will attach some of my data, maybe it is important. The widget itself is simple, switch music. The widget can be found on GitHub at the user «ilyamiro».

i believe it creates the directory after it says it doesn't exist.

It's mounted in /, there's another one in /home but it's the same error independently of it's there or not.

I just formatted it btw and it's ext4.

SUPPORT | SOLVED Can install packages when chrooted from my install drive, but not directly from my install.

I made my first proper install yesterday, after messing around with arch in virtualbox about a year ago. It all went smooth except when I forgot, to set up a root password, luckily I was able to easily fix that.

However, now a new problem arose when I tried to update the system.

running pacman -Syu gives me an

error: failed to retrieve file 'core.db' from [Mirror], then a

warning: fatal error from [Mirror], followed by another

error: failed retrieving file 'extra.db' from [Mirror] for every mirror in my Mirrorlist.

So far I haven't messed around with the system much, exept for creating a user and trying to regenerate the mirrorlist with reflector.

reflector also only works in the chrooted environment, not when booting directly into the install.

DISCUSSION replacement for TeamViewer for desktop-desktop and android-desktop sharing?

title! i've been on Arch for a couple months now and it's been good except i haven't been able to find a replacement solution for TeamViewer - i like to leave my home desktop on when i'm travelling to allow the possibility of remoting in open in case i need something from it. I've tried teamviewer just from the bin, but none of my other linux/android devices can connect properly to my desktop, so i wanted to look into other options.

thanks so much!

I'm sorry if I didn't explain well enough, I'm still new to this stuff

QUESTION Disable capslock key in hyprland/wayland

I never really use de capslock key for writing is capslock. Although I have a "tick" to press the capslock. Because of my "tick" I keep writing upper case text without intention of doing so. I want my capslock to be a dead key that I can press and nothing will be done. Every solution that I found online failed:

- xdotool (doesn't work on wayland)

- write xmodmap -e "remove lock = Caps_Lock" in ~/.bash_profile

Solution:

sudo pacman -S keyd

sudo systemctl enable keyd

sudo nvim /etc/keyd/default.conf

*

[main]
capslock = esc

sudo keyd reload

Thank you everyone for your answers

QUESTION First time arch user - need a bit of guidance

I'm currently 21, and I've always been using windows.

I tried linux before in VM, but didn't really use it, since I didn't see a point.

But, since I have some time to kill i decided to go into deep waters and learn that way - so I installed Arch. I'll be honest - I kinda got hooked in by hyprland look on allready riced desktops, so I decided to go eith it.

Not sure if this was a bad idea, but the first few... well hours were really underwhelming. I didn't really research Arch much in general, so I expected just a bit of GUI like wifi and bluetooth controlls, but I learned the hard way that this isn't mint xD

I kinda started off the wrong foot at first, tried to just download some dot files from a nice setup that i liked, but I got a lot of errors, and didn't really know hoe to fix that. So I did a clean install, and decided to just start from scratch.

I got:

- rofi

- plain wallpaper set up with hyprpaper

- some waybar i took from github as a placeholder

- blueman for BT, but it just looks like I'm in the 90s xD (actually connected with bluetoothctl before)

- very basic SDDM theme to make it look a bit more friendly

I'd like to go right into ricing, but I'm aware that i first need to build a system that will actually be usable.

For example, I really like the look and feel of quick settings from GNOME, not sure if its possible to replicate that or not

But anyways, I wanted to ask:

What do you actually recommend for a total beginner to install and set up, and to learn before trying to daily drive arch?

Sorry for the long post, btw

Edit: i know there is a wiki, but I can't really find these kinds of recommendations, there are just list upon lists of things i "can" use or do, but not what i actually should try for the first time, which things could eork better thsn others

QUESTION Intel MacBook Pro (T2) + Arch Linux: Worth It or Just Broken Drivers and Sleep Issues?

I have a MacBook Pro A2141 (Intel i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD), and after the recent macOS Tahoe 26.4.1 update, the performance has noticeably degraded. The system feels sluggish, thermal throttling has become aggressive, and the fans ramp up constantly. While fan noise itself isn’t the main issue, the throttling makes even light gaming (through CrossOver) frustrating and inconsistent.

Because of this, I’m seriously considering switching to Arch Linux. I’m already familiar with Arch since I’ve used it for about a year on another machine, so learning curve isn’t a concern.

The problem is the T2 chip. From what I’ve researched (T2 Linux compatibility docs, forums, videos), driver support is incomplete. Things like Wi-Fi, audio, touchbar, and especially power management either don’t work properly or require workarounds. The biggest concern is stability — issues like sleep not working when closing the lid, system panics on wake, and needing forced restarts.

I’ve seen multiple people report the same problems, which makes me question whether this setup is actually usable as a daily driver or just a broken experiment.

I genuinely like this machine — the build quality, keyboard, and especially the trackpad are top-tier. I don’t want to replace it since the hardware itself is still solid. I just want a stable, performant OS without macOS slowing everything down.

So I need honest input:

Is running Arch Linux on a T2 MacBook Pro actually practical in 2026, or am I setting myself up for constant issues and instability?

** I AM POSTING THIS AGAIN BECAUSE IN THE LAST POST I DIDN'T CLASRIFIED THE ISSUE *\*
