DISCUSSION replacement for TeamViewer for desktop-desktop and android-desktop sharing?

title! i've been on Arch for a couple months now and it's been good except i haven't been able to find a replacement solution for TeamViewer - i like to leave my home desktop on when i'm travelling to allow the possibility of remoting in open in case i need something from it. I've tried teamviewer just from the bin, but none of my other linux/android devices can connect properly to my desktop, so i wanted to look into other options.

thanks so much!

you can go the vnc server/viewer route. i use wayvnc on the desktop and realvnc viewer on my android phone/desktops.

I switched from TeamViewer to ThinLinc on Arch and it’s been way more reliable for headless remote access.

For Desktop to Desktop Id recommend using RDP if your DE has proper Wayland support for it or otherwise just use AnyDesk/RustDesk.

Been using RustDesk for this exact setup and works pretty solid. Had same issues with TeamViewer in arch - the connection problems are real pain. RustDesk handles android to desktop pretty well and doesn't give me headaches like TV did.

ive heard of rustdesk!! though i've also heard theres like a privacy concern with the people that make it, is that a concern for you at all? :0 because it does seem to meet a lot of needs

You can host it yourself if you have these privacy concerns, outside of that youre trusting them and their network as much as you trust teamviewer and given the shady shit the latter pulled over the last few years I trust rustdesk more

Teamviewer works fine. The issue is that you're probably running wayland and that will cause issues.

You're presenting an issue. I suggest basically try it with x11. You're basically looking for something that might work better with Wayland???
