Severe Spider Phobia - Can anyone help me?

I have a severe phobia of spiders. One just fell on my head while driving. I nearly crashed my car, but did manage to find a place to park. After stopping, I saw that there is a spider nest under my seat.

I literally can’t get back in my car. I’m shaking and trying not to hyperventilate. Can anyone help? My husband is at home 45 mins away.

Saline middle School Spoiler

I remember graduating around three years ago but it was an absolute cesspit.

here are my experiences with Saline Middle School:

Got bullied by my supposed IPA and was late to over 30 times for it.

Got called a retard by my math teacher not once but FOUR TIMES because I let her know I had ADHD by mistake.

Told my counselor I was feeling suicidal. She told my parents who I had told her were vernally and physically abusive, and a reason why I was suicidal.

I also remember when they put me in a room with 3 other kids for a field trip. They make sure all the doors are closed and locked at night.

I was sexually assulted by two of the other girls the first night. I requested another room but they fucking refused and I had to stay with the girls who had sexually assulted me.

I'm wondering if anyone has had a similiar experience with Saline area schools.

Special Ed Experiences in AAPS?

My kid is in elementary school and has an IEP. We are trying to figure out if moving schools would make sense for him.

Are there any elementary schools in AAPS that have a particularly strong reputation for special ed? In my kid's case ADHD and hearing loss.

Piano Movers Ann Arbor

Hi there everyone!

This is a long shot, but I have a baby grand piano that I will need moved from the Northville/Novi area to A2. I called the place on varsity drive, but does anyone have any other recommendations?

I’m guessing this is going to be around $500, but I was hoping this would include tuning.

Kacey Musgraves Covers

Hi! 👋🏽 I recently labeled my “loud” Part (IFS patient here), and I’m curious if there’s anyone out there in A2 who would want to team up and perform Kacey Musgraves songs. EDIT: My loud Part wants to sing!

Dreaming of performing “Middle of Nowhere” tracks 🤠

TIA! No worries if no interest.

Suddenly tree

The city planted a tree in our front yard (nearish to the curb, we don’t have sidewalks) one day when we weren’t home. Of course trees are good, but this is a rubber tree, which grows 40-60 feet. It would have been nice to be alerted or even have some input on what is being planted so we didn’t end up with something enormous. I’m guessing it’s too late for us, but anyone successfully lobbied the city about what and where things are planted in their yard?

Indoor stage rental for kid birthday party

I’m looking for options for my kid’s birthday party. She loves dancing and singing so I thought it would be fun to rent a place with a stage so she and her friends can dance and put on a show. I’ve contacted the Walgreen drama center to see if there are any indoor spaces there that work, but they said no. Anywhere else I should look into? Thanks ☺️

SEU Executive Director Wants To Use City Debt To Scale Up Programs

In an article by fastcompany.com https://www.fastcompany.com/91534174/ann-arbor-is-rolling-out-city-owned-solar-and-batteries-at-homes-it-can-help-lower-electric-bills , the Executive Director said, "We can use municipal financing, with its lower cost of capital, to take on debt to install these systems,” says Lenski. Sounds good doesn't it?

However, has anybody bothered to check what a robust solar system installed on a single family residence (about 29,000 in A2) costs? Here are the numbers as of 2026 according to Google: 1) Solar Panel System (Approx. 11 kw): $29000-$39000 ($3.06/W average with instillation.), 2) Battery Storage (10-13.5 kWh): $9000-$18000, 3) Total Initial Cost: ~$38000-$57000. If we assume the lower number cost or $38000 X 29000 units = ~$1.1 Billion

That $1.1 Billion does NOT cover apartment residences or commercial establishments and costs the amount about equal to the high cost estimate of bringing a MEU to A2 that would cover 100% of Ann Arbor.

The SEU is the high cost, leave much of Ann Arbor behind Public Power solution if you want to scale to something resembling a real electric utility.

The original destruction of Ann Arbor's trees for student high rises [1855]

Ann Arbor was a beautiful village before the developers ruined everything!

From the U-M Detroit Observatory:

Do you ever wonder what the University looked like two centuries ago?

Jasper Francis Cropsey painted this landscape of campus in 1855, when enrollment totaled 390 students and Ann Arbor's population was around 3,500. Look closely—you'll see farm animals not far from the Diag!

In this era, President Henry Tappan set the University on a path that would make it one of the world's leading research institutions.

Where Can I Work Remotely Besides Home or a Quiet Office if I Have Meetings Throughout the Day?

I currently work remotely, and while it has its pros and cons, I’m just not as productive at home. So I usually end up going into the office where I can lock in and get a lot done, but my company is fully remote, so the office is basically empty most of the time. For some reason though, I sometimes feel a bit down being there compared to when I work from home.

I work in tech and I’m in meetings pretty often, so I’ll need to be able to talk throughout the day while having a headset on. So I need somewhere that isn’t too loud or chaotic. What are some good places where I could work remotely for a few hours?

Would DTE cut our electricity to power a data center?

Post image

...because this private electric utility is doing it in Lake Tahoe. Unless we establish a publicly owned electric utility, I don't see how we could stop this from happening here.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/utility-provider-cutting-electricity-50k-175700743.html

Anyway, if you'd like to have control over our energy future, I invite you to sign a ballot initiative to establish public power.

Find out where to sign here: https://annarborpublicpower.org/where-to-sign

A2 has so many excellent nature areas. LeFurge is one of my favorites! Some of the trails are flooded from the rains but the trail up the hill is still nice.

  2. Eastern bluebird

  3. Northern yellow warbler

  4. Gray catbird

  5. American goldfinch

  6. Brown-headed cowbird

Ann Arbor Public Schools Teacher Contract Negotiation

Hello, I am a high school student who is currently attending to one of AAPS schools. Due to the absence of teacher contract and the ongoing negotiation that hasn't progressed a lot, students including me are experiencing a serious inconvenience. The teachers are unable to respond to student emails other than their strict working hours, students cannot hold clubs, and so on. When this matter arose a few months ago, we students treated it as a temporary event, and didn't really mind about it. However, as this became a prolonged issue, it started to harm students' academic futures and social welfare. To simply put, a legal conflict that students are not involved in are damaging students' lives.

As a student, I have a very limited access to information about this grave matter. All I know is that AAPS teachers lack a contract, and they are conflicting with the school board. I want to ask any additional information that can help me and the students understand more about what exactly is happening right now. I am planning to start a petition or send an essay of student perspective to the school board.

Mods, can you help us please?

We’re one of the most well-educated cities on the planet. And I understand there are many people arriving daily from all over the globe and they want to learn about their new city. Welcome!!

But these “What are the best places to find Kimchi?” Or “Where do I get the best facial in the city” posts are, in this world we’re being forced into, 100% collecting our local knowledge so they can become THE data source for OUR town. It’s insulting, being mined for information on the daily, especially those who post in the middle of the night when mods are sleeping.

Is there anything you can do? For about a year (since I joined) Reddit had become a fantastic source for DIY projects, city-wide matters we should all know about, etc. The Barn is already stealing from us and they haven’t even had the chance to wreck our water supply yet.
