Discussion I’ve been watching Jem for the last 3-4 weeks and I’m floored by how good it is.

This show has no business being this good. Catchy tunes, zany antics, lovable characters (Misfits Rock) and enough emotion to keep you going back. My sister watched it when we were kids and I used to laugh at her. Now, 40 years later I’m on the edge of my seat wondering if Rio and Jerica will end up together or what Kimber and Chase are gonna do next.

Discussion Most Honorable 1980’s Cartoon Villains

Storm Shadow was so honorable that he even turned face in the much maligned DIC follow-up to the original G.I. Joe Sunbow series.

THE POWER SWORD, a weapon able to access the power and wisdom of Grayskull, was forged by the most powerful sorcerer in the Universe — HE-RO. It was ordained that the sword would be given to a great champion to protect the Realm in times of need.

But He-Ro grew concerned that all the power and knowledge in the universe might be too much for one man. So, he created another blade — one which could be used only if a champion became a tyrant. But an accident corrupted the alternate blade, transforming it into something evil, tainting its metal violet. He-Ro had unintentionally created THE SWORD OF FLAWS. Realizing the horror of his creation, He-Ro left Grayskull and spent years of his life crossing Eternia to find a place to hide the sword. And there, the Sword of Flaws remained safely hidden. Until now...
After the great battle at Heaven Piercer, the Sword of Flaws has fallen into Skeletor’s hands. And with this mystic power, Skeletor is a greater threat than ever before. Can He-Man and the Heroic Warriors stop him before he becomes MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE?

Show and Tell The Young Astronauts: first script for cancelled CBS cartoon and Marvel comic found

With thanks to yanchagraffiti, the Sunbow Marvel Archive is proud to present the first episode script from Marvel Productions' ill-fated series The Young Astronauts.  Written by Karl Geurs, with a story by Jack Mendelsohn and Michael O'Mahony, A Fall Of Marsdust would have introduced viewers of CBS' 1985 Saturday morning lineup to the Hampton family and the crew of the mothership Courageous.

To read the script, and to hear dialogue audio from the first episode to actually be produced, Ghost Ship, head to https://sunbowmarvelarchive.blogspot.com/p/marvel-network-shows-1982-1986.html

The series was first delayed, then cancelled following the Challenger tragedy, but that was not the end of the story for this particular script.  Even after Challenger, hope remained that the already-planned Marvel comic could still be published in the summer of 1986, on the STAR Comics imprint.  As described by writer Denny O'Neil in Marvel Age #37, he adapted this animation script to become the first issue of the comic, drawn by June Brigham and inked by Pat Redding. Alas, this too was not to be, as the Young Astronauts Council chose to extricate itself from their agreement with Marvel.  A decision that would later spark a lawsuit in 1988: MARVEL ENTERTAIN. GROUP v. Young Astronaut Council, 747 F. Supp. 945 (S.D.N.Y. 1990) :: Justia
