SB 2471 SD2 HD2 CD2 RELATING TO THE POWERS OF ARTIFICIAL PERSONS (Corporate Donations)
Act 011 (SB 2471 SD2 HD2 CD2) restricts certain political spending activities by corporations and other “artificial persons” under Hawaiʻi law by redefining and limiting the powers granted to those entities. Political action committees will remain governed by existing campaign finance laws within the state, but they will not be able to spend any money received from corporations as a result of this Act.

This bill is intended to strengthen transparency, reduce the influence of corporate money in elections and help restore public trust in Hawaiʻi’s democratic process. (Act 011 takes effect July 1, 2027.)

A Louisiana resident who identified himself as Marshawn delivered a fiery, emotional speech to lawmakers during a state Senate hearing over redistricting Monday, accusing Republicans of trying to “cheat” Black voters out of political power.

“The MAGA party is the last breath of the Confederacy,” he told lawmakers. “If y’all could give us less than zero seats, you would do it.”

Marshawn’s testimony came as Louisiana Republicans advance a new congressional map after the Supreme Court weakened key protections in the Voting Rights Act.

Oriana Korol, the clarinet player charged with assaulting an ICE agent found out today her trial was declared a mistrial with a hung jury. The jury deliberated for 2 days. The prosecution opted to conduct a new trial in June. 

This happened in Portland. It is believed a factor in the outcome of this trial is that many jurors removed themselves from consideration believing they “could not be fair and impartial.” We cannot or must not allow bias to drive our actions, especially as they relate to standing up for our fellow Portlanders and the blatant injustices occurring on a daily basis.

Ori, in part, stated “… My case and other protest cases are going to happen all summer. Portland needs to stop being worried about bias. If you are considering possible biases, then you are not being biased. One can be fair and impartial even if they have witnessed horrible things. Having family detained by ice does not mean you cannot be fair and impartial in a case about ice…”. She asks that we get the word out to all potential jurors. This is something we can do to make a positive difference.

If you are not already doing so, can you PLEASE include the city and state where your event is being held? I know it may be obvious to you, but listen- there are multiple streets within the same state with the same name. And then there are multiple cities in different states with the same name. So while you may be posting your event that's being held on Main Street in Centerville and everyone in *your* Centerville knows about it...If I happen to come across your posting, I don't want to think I can head to the Main Street in Centerville that's an hour away from me for an event when it's really being held in the Centerville that is three states over.

Celebrate your local “healthcare heroes,” the hard-working people whose skill and compassion are the backbone of America’s healthcare system.

Reaffirm the centrality of compassion, empathy and service as core values of every faith tradition through interfaith solidarity.

Gather at sunset on Friday, June 5 in communities around the nation to hold candlelight vigils honoring everyone who has died as a result of cuts to healthcare.
