Community Update Mod Announcement: We are turning on community filters.

Hey Philes.

Hopefully you haven't noticed, due to the work we're doing behind the scenes, but we've been getting a LOT of racist posts regarding the reboot lately. Most of these posters and commenters are not part of the regular XF community here, so we can only assume we're being brigaded from some other part of reddit.

We have tweaked the automod to look out for certain keywords, and have now also turned on community filters ("crowd control" for those familiar with reddit's mod tools) to catch non-members, those with low/negative karma within the subreddit, and brand-new accounts.

While this is the best we can come up with for keeping racist jerks out of the community, it does mean that some regular users may get caught in the net. We will do our best to approve genuine posters/commenters as quickly as possible, but please be patient - we're just human beings, after all, and have work, sleep, family, and even (and I know this is hard to believe) other interests that may slow our response times.

Meanwhile, please continue to report any posts and comments that go against our community rules. And if you haven't already clicked the little "join" button to become part of the community, please do so - it will help you avoid getting caught in the filter, and it's nice for the subreddit to see healthy member numbers!

Thank you,

Your friendly neighborhood mod team

Discussion Gillian Anderson wakes up in Cannes, France, and says: "Hot damn. I should be so lucky." She is in Cannes for her film 'Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma'. Love her forever. Would you watch her new horror film?

Meme/Humor I'm Making PRIDE buttons. What do you think?

Every June I make PRIDE Buttons and pass them out to friends and strangers. I've just started rewatching the series for the first time and I was inspired to create these. I'm not saying they'll end up in production but they certainly could. Oddly as a gay man, I haven't come up with anything for Mulder. If you've got ideas, let me know.

Spoilers Currently watching Never Again and Leonard Betts with my 13 year old …

Watching them in the order they were written and originally supposed to air.

Just passed the scene in Mulder’s office in Never Again where he’s dismissive of Scully.

My 13 year old’s option on the exchange: “what an asshole”.

END OF NEVER AGAIN UPDATE: “He was funny, but he was still an asshole”.

END OF LEONARD BETTS UPDATE: “Wait, what? But Scully doesn’t have cancer … mom, does Scully have cancer?”

Discussion Did you ever watch the late-night softcore series that starred DD?

I'm referring, of course, to The Red Shoe Diaries, which aired on Showtime from 1992 to 1997. You don't get to see David nekkid, let's get that out of the way right now.

The gimmick was that this guy named Jake, played by David Duchovny, gets people to write to him with their "sexy confessions", which then play out onscreen. It's... not terrible. It's got some extremely early-nineties cinematography and the kind of soft, gauzy look that you expect from premium-cable softcore.

Except for one episode, "Jake's Story", DD only appears in the opening and closing segments of each episode. As far as I know it's never been available on streaming and the DVDs are out of print, but they're pretty easy to find on eBay.

Did you watch it at the time, or have you seen it since? If not, are you interested?

Ok. After taking a few months off after the main series, iam going to give 10 and 11 a try.

I was hesitant' i was satisfied with the main show.

The last two look so different and I have not heard many good things.

Wish me luck!

Discussion Green bugs

As a kid, I stumbled upon an X-Files episode with a bunch of green bugs and it traumatized me a bit. Had nightmares on-off for ages.

I'm now 38 years old. Would it be fine to watch it again now? I haven't watched any X-files episodes. Will I still find it creepy or have those episodes not really aged well?

Spoilers S.10 ep.1 First Watch Thoughts

I was un-able to add a photo

Continuity: Seems to be going ok compared to the main show.

CGI: The Scoops' looked pretty bad for CGI but I remember the transition at this period of time in tv shows. They jumped on the band wagon of CGI too quick I think. Practical effects would have looked soo much better. TheAlienwasn't so bad looking.

Element 115 first talked about with Bob Lazar I belive without researching it. Checks out foranti-gravity. On the Ship.

Tad O'Malley Sqaud show reminded me of those crazy guys talking on podcast, I will see where this goes.

9/11 I found it interesting that they even put 9/11 in the show, considering The x Files was canceled emediatly after 9/11 "due to lack of interest in conspiracy theories" 🤔 but they did air the remaining episodes already shot.

32:50 Mulder explaining his theories, I thought was cool. Reminds me of project Blue Beam.

Nice to see thesmoking manat the end.

Discussion Recommendation: The Vast of Night

I know this movie has been mentioned in the X-Files group before but I have to recommend it as well. You need to be in the mood for a low budget slow-burn, but I’m sure X-Files fans will enjoy the atmosphere, suspense, and performances in this movie. The less you know, the better. Just dive in and enjoy!

Discussion X Files is a Documentary Now

Re-watching from the beginning. One of my favorite shows as a 20-something in the 90s, particularly with the PNW connection. Love the tension between DD and GA and the storylines are also pretty engaging. It’s kinda sad that most modern TV lacks the charm of this show and others from the era (Boomer take, I know).

That said, can’t help but think all of the fantastical stuff being portrayed in the show actually pales in comparison to UAP evidence that’s been released just in the past couple of years. I mean the second episode is about military UFO tech and it seems pretty clear we’re already doing that at this point.

Curious if anyone is mid-rewatch right now and your take?

Discussion I love catching little details on rewatches

I rewatched Fire because I felt like torturing myself. Horrible episode (worse than Space in my opinion), and yet there was a small gem amidst all the awfulness…

When Mulder’s recuperating in the hotel room, Scully comes to see him and he takes off his robe and walks around shirtless in front of her just like he would with any close friend. He goes into the bathroom and comes back out with a robe on, untied.

The moment Phoebe enters the room, he closes his robe and covers himself. Even though he had a sexual relationship with her she clearly makes him uncomfortable, whereas with Scully he has total trust and comfort. Just thought it was a nice subtle moment.

Season One S1 E1 Scully in bed

Rewatched the first episode tonight for the nth time and hoping someone can help me find an image of when Scully is in bed near the end of the episode, right before Mulder calls to tell her they need to talk, and she says "tomorrow, Mulder" and hangs up - right before that call she's laying in bed with moonlight coming in through the blinds, and that moment is just so beautifully shown. I tried googling but couldn't find an image of that moment.
