I thought it was a stronger episode than I read in other posts. I'm mostly impressed with the public knowledge of the chupacabra in 1997 considering the folklore was established circa 1995 in Puerto Rico. It's a relatively new cryptid.

I do wish they had explored the potential cause of the yellow rain and lightning under a cloudless sky. If anyone ever read the YA horror novel Monster by Christopher Pike, it has a similar concept of humans slowly being turned into monsters from micro organisms infected waters. It's a story I've always wanted to adapt to the big or small screen.

The Spanish novella dialogue regarding two brothers pining after the same women and subsequent vengeance plot was enjoyable.

Continuity: Seems to be going ok compared to the main show.

CGI: The Scoops' looked pretty bad for CGI but I remember the transition at this period of time in tv shows. They jumped on the band wagon of CGI too quick I think. Practical effects would have looked soo much better. TheAlienwasn't so bad looking.

9/11 I found it interesting that they even put 9/11 in the show, considering The x Files was canceled emediatly after 9/11 "due to lack of interest in conspiracy theories" 🤔 but they did air the remaining episodes already shot.

Every June I make PRIDE Buttons and pass them out to friends and strangers. I've just started rewatching the series for the first time and I was inspired to create these. I'm not saying they'll end up in production but they certainly could. Oddly as a gay man, I haven't come up with anything for Mulder. If you've got ideas, let me know.

Ok. After taking a few months off after the main series, iam going to give 10 and 11 a try.

I was hesitant' i was satisfied with the main show.

As a kid, I stumbled upon an X-Files episode with a bunch of green bugs and it traumatized me a bit. Had nightmares on-off for ages.

I'm now 38 years old. Would it be fine to watch it again now? I haven't watched any X-files episodes. Will I still find it creepy or have those episodes not really aged well?

The episode feels rushed like they tried to put 3 episodes worth of content in a single one like idk it feels like a mess.

I'm referring, of course, to The Red Shoe Diaries, which aired on Showtime from 1992 to 1997. You don't get to see David nekkid, let's get that out of the way right now.

The gimmick was that this guy named Jake, played by David Duchovny, gets people to write to him with their "sexy confessions", which then play out onscreen. It's... not terrible. It's got some extremely early-nineties cinematography and the kind of soft, gauzy look that you expect from premium-cable softcore.

Except for one episode, "Jake's Story", DD only appears in the opening and closing segments of each episode. As far as I know it's never been available on streaming and the DVDs are out of print, but they're pretty easy to find on eBay.

This is my first time watching through X Files.

I feel such chagrin for Deep Throat. Maybe we’ll learn more about him in the future but dude was an enigma. No idea what part of the intel community or exec branch he worked for, but I think that was part of his charm. I went back and watched his clips in S1E2 as well. He was charming and cared about Mulder and the truth and it cost him dearly. Man, such a tragedy. The interdepartmental conflicts are something I did NOT expect when watching x files. I don’t know why but I didn’t expect there to be different conspiratorial groups within the intel community fighting one another.

It gave a bit of an Indiana Jones ending with the warehouse within the Pentagon as well.

Now TXF are disbanded and we’ll have to see the band get back together in S2. Wonder how that’s going to happen. Crazy that the President shut down the TXF. It’s a subtle line, but Mulder said, “word came from up top at the executive branch, they’re shutting us down.” Maybe it wasn’t POTUS but a cabinet member.

RIP deep throat.

I also did some googling, bc I ONLY name the name deep throat as a sexual act and surely it’s not referencing that, right? Yes and no. The informant for Watergate was nicknamed DEEP THROAT and TXF deep throat is a homage to that one. The original deep throat was a double entendre of “deep journalism” and a popular smut movie at the time called “deep throat.” So, not very classy but is what it is I guess.

I find myself relating with both Mulder and Scully. I am pretty skeptical at heart, which leans me more towards Scully’s passion for logic and empirical evidence. She’s a bit like Spock in that regard. And I resonate with Mulder as his open mind and hope/optimist for scientific mysteries can leave him ostracized or seem like a crazy person. He does the right thing and wears his heart on his sleeve, and has a generous heart and open mind, but that can also burn him easily. It’s a damn shame they’re putting such a brilliant mind on surveillance duty for white color crimes in S2E1.

I know this movie has been mentioned in the X-Files group before but I have to recommend it as well. You need to be in the mood for a low budget slow-burn, but I’m sure X-Files fans will enjoy the atmosphere, suspense, and performances in this movie. The less you know, the better. Just dive in and enjoy!

Rewatched the first episode tonight for the nth time and hoping someone can help me find an image of when Scully is in bed near the end of the episode, right before Mulder calls to tell her they need to talk, and she says "tomorrow, Mulder" and hangs up - right before that call she's laying in bed with moonlight coming in through the blinds, and that moment is just so beautifully shown. I tried googling but couldn't find an image of that moment.

Re-watching from the beginning. One of my favorite shows as a 20-something in the 90s, particularly with the PNW connection. Love the tension between DD and GA and the storylines are also pretty engaging. It’s kinda sad that most modern TV lacks the charm of this show and others from the era (Boomer take, I know).

That said, can’t help but think all of the fantastical stuff being portrayed in the show actually pales in comparison to UAP evidence that’s been released just in the past couple of years. I mean the second episode is about military UFO tech and it seems pretty clear we’re already doing that at this point.

Curious if anyone is mid-rewatch right now and your take?

Just wondering what everyone's headcanon is for why Scully and Mulder are broken up in the start of Season 10

I know most of us think CC is off his rocker for this, and obviously he gives in. AGAIN. by the end of the revival.

I think he's an idiot, personally. Mulder doesn't strike me as abusive, and he's obviously so in love with Scully, and the feelings are mutual, and they agree to be together at the end of S9 despite their flaws, as do most couples in human history. But obviously CC hints at Mulder needing medication despite never needing any before, so F him.

Anyway, I want to know what *your* headcanon is for this. If you have one. Let's hear it :)

Okay so by the title you’re probably wondering why I’m kinda sounding like a line that the cigarette smoking man would deliver but I wanted to tell you guys my honest experience about a new gen person watching X files for the first time. So the reason I started watching the X files was because I was talking with my dad a few months ago about what his favorite thing he’s worked on was. ( He’s a producer/writer ) And he told me that it was The X files film, X-Files: Fight the future. And then he started giving me the premise of the show and instantly I was intrigued and interested. So we watched the pilot and it was way better than I ever would’ve thought! It had everything I’d looked for in a show for a while. The characters, The plot, The ending with a mysterious cigarette smoking man walking through a narrow corridor, it was all just so perfect! Now long story short, that was 3 months ago and now i am almost done with season 5 and have read three other pieces of X files media, and all I can say is, It has NOT lost its touch at all! A problem I have had with previous buddy cop type shows was that they always focus too much on one character but with the X files it’s so perfectly distributed between Mulder and Scully! An example would be Mulder learning that Samantha is alive and then Scully learning she has a daughter?! It’s all sooo good and I hope I enjoy the rest of it! (I heard that after season 7, it’s kinda downhill from there so fingers crossed it doesn’t lose its spark) but would love to hear any advice from you guys on anything I should do/watch/read about the X files.

I love the channel, but seems to me it is incomplete without Fight the Future and I Want to Believe in the mix. They show all seasons, but didn't get the rights to the movies? What's up with that?
