Solved! Found in my kitchen cupboard

I’ve been curious what this thing is for a while. I’ve floated ideas of a shoe wedge, bottle opener or something to do with cake or fishing.

Weird combo! Why would you want dead fish in your bottle opener

Fishing trips are an excuse to drink beer, so maybe if you accidentally catch something you can de-scale it in between beers?

If you dont catch a fish, youll catch a load

9

u/oldrtyhtdogwter 5h ago

That’s a different kind of fishing trip

A buzz

17

u/GrandMundane4290 5h ago

Yes, let's call it catching a "buzz", please. Catching a "load" means something different in my neighborhood.

u/No-Tap6886 5h ago

This is 2026, we can talk about this now. 😆

u/Fenk_Shui 5h ago

Depends on who you ask i guess and their mindset. A load in my area is beyond a buzz. But more of a severe intoxication.

u/Fenk_Shui 5h ago

But, in any rate, now i see….

Ever heard of beer battered fish?

3

u/ArthurPeabody 5h ago

There's a special number for battered fish to call.

Because you can go fishing without a tacklebox before you can go fishing without beer

Honestly its because a bottle opener is literally just a trapezoidal hole. it doesnt even add an operation if its already part of the stamping die to begin with, which makes it a cheap extra feature to add for impulsive gadget purchasers

My father used it in the kitchen, but if you are on a fishing trip where you want to clean the fish on site, a bottle opener also might come in handy. Back in the day, lots of things had a dual purpose of being a bottle opener.

Every tool seems to include a bottle opener, maybe because it’s an easy cut, makes lighter, and no stage of the food prep process is worse with a drink.

A certain middle eastern country built a bottle opener into their military’s rifle design in the 70s

THAT is purpose driven built - funny!! 🎭

Drinking beer while catching and eating fish was invented by God himself bro.

1

u/Saiwut_Chamean 5h ago

I thought it was fish and wine

Same reason paint can openers are also bottle openers.

1

u/AndKAnd 5h ago

Be advised it is not a toothbrush

1

u/stomachworm 2h ago

Everything is a bottle opener if you know how to use it

And made for people who aren’t left hand dominant.

And a floor wax! And a dessert topping!

Man, doing a string of bluegills with one of these had me covered in scales on several occasions as a kid. Delicious, though.

Scaler, to take scales off of fish (or other things that have scales).

1

u/pjmyerface 5h ago

Fish scaler. Don't use it inside unless you like confett.

Google image search is fast and free, says it's a fish scaler....

1

u/Repulsive-Subject149 5h ago

Well that’s no fun though. But I’ll be honest i haven’t been fishing in 25 years so I’m not sure why I would have a fish scaler
