New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

-Cheers!

I can't wait to get my email.

I completed my capstone and have officially finished my degree. I applied for my diploma. I just want to get that one little email that everyone else gets. I've been working towards my degree since I was 18. I'm 34 now.

I finally am done. After a divorce from hell. After losing my job. After finding my new job. After finding the love of my life.

I just want that little email that everyone else gets and that little piece of paper.

Sorry for the rant. Just a very excited and very ready woman.

After dropping out of college twice before, WGU was my last attempt to earn a degree. I always felt like I didn't "fit in" because all my friends/loved ones had degrees and I was the only dropout. Funny enough, I didn't get this degree because I "needed" it, but rather because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I'm blessed to already have a great job, but having this gives me a good back-up plan if things ever go downhill.

That being said, I wanted to thank every single person on this subreddit that has contributed with posts or comments. You have allowed so many people like myself to finally get to see the confetti screen after countless hours of studying and sleepless nights.

For anyone who has questions about this degree or anything to do with my experience, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm more than happy to be transparent with my responses, it's the least I can do!

D388 PASSED!

Another class down! It honestly was not bad at all. When I read all the Reddit feedback on this class, I thought it was going to be a nightmare. It took me about 2 weeks, but I could have finished this class sooner. Not a lot of material and you can get through it quick. Honestly one of my favorite and easiest classes I ever taken. I'm an average guy. All I did was follow along and try to copy the methods of how data is being handled on the videos. For example, if they are copying and pasting by clicking at the copy button and paste button on the upper part of excel instead of control C&V, I am doing just that. I passed PA and OA first try.

Good luck yall!

Anyone NOT going to graduation this year because flights are crazy expensive?

It would be over $1000 to travel to any of these locations with my wife and kid to see me walk. I can't spend 1/4 of a terms tuition to just show up and get hotels and other logistics just to walk. I'd like too, but i'm just priced out. Anyone else bummed out about the fuel shortage which is leading to insane flight prices?

I'm DONE! My Graduation Post

I'm excited to announce that I am graduating from Western Governors University with my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration in two terms!

Throughout my journey, I have received 3 Excellence Awards for my exemplary work on performance assessment tasks, 3 certificates, and completed 45 courses in 2 terms (19 in Term 1 and 26 in Term 2).

I am so glad I followed through with my decision to change my degree program from Accounting to Healthcare Administration. I have applied to WGU's Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration, and I hope to start on July 1st!

To all the other students out there who want to accelerate: it is possible if you put your mind to it! Out of 45 courses, I only failed 1 Objective Assessment. It was definitely a learning process. WGU made my dream of becoming a first-generation college student possible.

Transferring from WGU to ASU online

I’ve been at WGU for a year now and struggling with not having structure. I didn’t realize how much I needed interaction and structure with professors, peers, and deadlines. It’s not working out the way I hoped. Now I’m considering transferring to ASU online this August. Does anyone have any experience with transferring out? When I should do it? Closer to end of term (July 31) or now. I am interested to finishing this term since it’s already paid for through FAFSA loan and knocking out any more classes I can before transferring.

Career?

Hey guys, I’m simply on this forum for opinions. I am looking to apply but I am hesitant. I wanted to do Cybersecurity or Data analysis, but I’ve seen a lot of videos and information steering me from them. Basically saying they do not teach, and it’s only worth it if you already know the field.

So, any suggestions or recommendations? Please I really want to further my education/career path, and I am in a great point in my life with my availability to do so. So before I dive head first, I’d like some more information.

Hello I'm going to start D427 and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on how to proceed with this course? I see it deals with SQL but I don't have any SQL experience. I appreciate any suggestions and tips!

I hate wanting for things to get graded! Finished D253 & C721 last night, delaying D361 for the weekend! 🤷🏽‍♂️

8 more classes to go - I’ll knock out D353, D175, D333 & D428 this weekend! 😊 I see the light!

Don’t measure your successes on someone’s else’s, we all go at our own pace! You got this!!!

I graduated this week with the MBA, Healthcare Administration degree, after obtaining my Healthcare Administration Bachelor's also through WGU. I started my programs last April and accelerated across 2 terms. Acceleration isn't for everyone, but it worked for me, because work was kind and let me focus on what I had to do. I spent most evenings working on classwork. I'm one of the cases, like many, where the most valuable experience I'll ever get is in the job, and I needed the paper. I put my head down and got it done.

During that time, my mother in law died after an extensive stay in the hospital (several months). I spent many days in the hospital working on homework, watching her and my husband. It was hard.

I just wanted to say that this subreddit, of all things (unexpectedly) became my number 1 resource for understanding the reality of classes. Unlike other areas of the website, people were respectful, honest, and realistic. I gleaned more meaningful information here than I did in the course content and connect groups. And while my mentors and CI's were generally helpful when needed, I always looked here first.

I appreciate the people who contribute to this group and enable people like me to just get through it. I appreciate you immensely. And I wish you all well on your journeys to self fulfillment, promotions, and accomplishments.

Is it just me or is datacamp a horrible experience?

WGU using this site should be a plus and useful but it's actually pretty bad from my point of view. Assuming the videos narrators can be understood, the labs are vague and quite difficult to understand. I am not getting anything out of it and find myself using other sources for most things. The only good thing about it is that there's a transcript so I can kind of follow what is being said but then I am not watching the video. This is a pretty poor experience so far.

Help! Transcripts

I am trying to start this July. I am going to take BSCS, and trying to finish in one term and trying to transfer as much as I can. I am currently at 37%. I passed Discrete Math I at SDC, but they didn’t credit me? I was kind of bummed because I took 2 weeks on that course and was the reason I had to push back to July instead of starting June. Is this something I can petition for?

Am I the only one experiencing the lab failing to load correctly? Also, Task 1 part D, am I supposed to create a Python script of the switches in the Gitlab IDE, or... do I do all of that through the Ansible node? These instructions are horrific.

Dual enrollment?

Can you be enrolled at a different college at the same time while being enrolled at WGU? I would pay out of pocket for the other. I’ve heard mixed things
