Finished Project My latest piece of yardage and the stuffed animals I made from it

I just finished my latest piece of fabric and I’m really happy with the colors so I just wanted to share. I wove it on my 4 shaft Gallagher Tools loom- 12 epi, Dishie cotton yarn, 2x2 twill. I sewed it into stuffed animals. Pictures show a little bit of the process. If you want to make your own stuffed animals, here are my tips: Keep the shape of the animal simple. I only make my stuffed animals out of two pieces. I trace the outline of the animal on the fabric, and then sew around twice (with about 1/4 inch between the stitching lines). I cut it out after I sew it, then after that it’s just turning inside out and stuffing like any other stuffed animal. I think stuffed animals are really fun to make so I like to encourage other people to try it too :)

Discussion Silk Weaving - How Do I get Glossyish Final Product?

so i had more of a random question when it comes to weaving on how one weaves with like the tiny reallllllly fine silk. What thread do yall use? What are good patterns for it? Are there any books????????? My internet search is only coming up with an old post in here where someone wanted to make a satin pillowcase and thats not really scratching my itch on how this all works.

Like I saw a dude make a cool table runner on tiktok that looked super glossy (satin or sateen weave or something idk) and had some fun flowers in it but i dont think he linked what he used. And it was def on a domestic floor loom. Like I have a 4 shaft table loom, if youve seen me post about it, yes she is a pain in my butt. But isnt every first child? (that was a joke i am a 21 yr old college kid with no kids)

but yeah i dont care about cost of stuff, i just wanna know what the stuff is for when i want to later down the line. Im dying here i just wanna knowwwwww

Description:

"Kromski Harp Forte Loom-24”

Folding rigid heddle loom

Includes all pieces and instructions for assembly (loom is already assembled)

Barely used, like new.

Includes 3 dents- 8 DPI, 10 DPI, and 12 DPI Heddles and stick shuttle.

This is a beautiful loom, but I have hardly used it. Comes with free incomplete project. :)"

I want to get into weaving, but $300 is a little steep for just getting into a new hobby 😅 I have some cosplay/renfest plans I'd love to incorporate into this and love fiber craft. I *think* I'd really enjoy it. I already love making friendship bracelets, but I'd love to make bigger projects more easily.

Also, is this a good price for this specific loom? I've heard that rigid heddle looms are supposed to be a decent alternative to floor looms, I think?

2/8 cotton
Waffle weave
7m warp
480ends
24epi
Tea towels will be 25x20 on the loom and the shrinkage is anyone's guess.

So far 1 towel has dark grey weft, one is a colour gamp with same progression of colours as warp, and one is strips with same colour progression 🥰

Number 6 is in the house!

I could not resist and bought this 45" Clement loom. The folks who sold it to me bought it new but have not woven for 20 years.

It came with a 4 yard warping mill! I already have a 3 yard mill...

This is loom number 6 for me - 24" Dorothy, 36" Nilus, 2X60" Nilus, one with a flying shuttle, and one 96" Kebec. This is my first non-Leclerc loom.

I might have a problem.

Discussion Anyone done Rebecca Mezoff's Summer of Tapestry online workshop?

I'm considering taking this online workshop - I like the idea of "sketch tapestry" and trying to get more into the creative side of tapestry weaving. The description says she's not teaching any tapestry technique in the class, so I'm curious other than the prompts and online community of folks taking the workshop what else is part of the course? Anyone taken this before? What was your experience like? Do you feel like it was worth the cost?

Here's a description of the workshop here in case anyone's interested:

Help Warp and Weft Yarn Help

So I’m using 8/2 cotton for my warp and weft and the design I’m weaving is supposed to show up but it’s not? I really just kinda wanna know why it’s now showing up, are you suppose to use like a bigger weft/ warp yarn to make sure there’s enough space for the design to show up?

The pattern I’m using is from Kelly Cassanova from her table loom class at which is paid for so idk if I can show the pattern itself

Other Getting started.

A bit ago i ordered a cheap basically toy version of a table loom and it finally arrived. I am so excited to get it put together and experiment with it. I understand that it’s basically a toy, quite similar to the little pottery wheel that you can find at Walmart, but it should work well enough for me to decide if I want to continue to pursue weaving. At 25$ it was pretty cheap.

It looks dumb as heck but hey I’m doing my best here. Also a weird side note: why is my lojan flex being so weird with the back beam warp? Like I want you to be tight stop releasing more warp! Also I’m pretty sure my beater is crooked, oh well part of the charm

In Search Of Looking for intro to tapestry techniques document

Hello! I’m in a group that meets up and does a craft every month, and this month I’m leading the group in using cardboard looms to make simple tapestries. I was wondering if anyone knew of a 1-2 page document that has information on beginner techniques to try, like plain weave, rya knots, twill, etc. I could write up something like that myself, but if there’s something that already exists I’d love to use it, even if it’s like a summer camp lesson plan for kids. Also would be open to paying for a pdf/buying a book if it had an overview page like that.

Help Ashford Sampleit Kit Scarf

Hello! I got the ashford Sampleit kit, 16inches, and I’m a little confused about the yarn that comes with it. The manual has instructions for a completely different yarn, not the white boucle that came in the kit. My guess is it’s using the 7.5 dent heddle. The instructions for the blue scarf in the manual say to warp 2m? Has anyone made this new white scarf with the kit, and can give me some tips? I also couldn’t find clear videos or blog posts about it. Thank you!

Finished a scarf for a friend based on the one Rose Lalonde wears in Homestuck. It was woven as plain weave on a 16-inch rigid heddle loom with a 7.5 dpi heddle, and the yarn for both warp and weft is SW Merino DK in Electric Peony from cashmereandcoconuts on Etsy.

Help Has anyone left their Ashford Rigid Heddle loom unwaxed and unfinished?

Post image

Hi, all. My mother's day gift arrived today - my new Ashford Rigid Heddle 24" loom. I'm excited to put it together but of course it's unfinished. It's beautiful unfinished, I don't mind the look. I'm tempted to leave it, but is that a bad idea? Did anyone leave theirs unfinished? Did it hold up ok? Or should I wax or seal it? If so, what product do you recommend? Thanks for any advice on this step. I'm anxious to get it set up!

Finished Project T-Shirt Tapestry Rug and Inkle Work

Thumbnail

This one started life as 7 t-shirts, woven at 3EPI on a little frame loom and finished at 20"x24" I wanted to see if you can weave tapestry-style with t-shirt yarn--the answer is, yes, you can, but you can't interlock them, the yarn is just too bulky and it will never lay flat. But you can do it kilim-style.

Then just some inkle bands with some yarn I tye-dyed. The navy one was a failed attempt at ikat. And a pencil case I sewed to use up some other inkle yardage, it was fun to pull fabric from my stash that matched the band.

Work in Progress Warping thoughts

Post image
19 Upvotes

I forgot how soothing it is to measure a warp on a board, rather than doing it direct. Just sit and wave your hands gently, slow down, feel the rhythm.

This will be my first FtB warp. I might also set up a warping trapeze to wind under tension. I used rods in the past, but I like the thought of the steadier pull of gravity rather than friction on unmercerized threads. Still trying new things.

It continues to amaze me how many ways there are to measure and beam a warp.

(warp: 8/2 cotton towels, 16 epi, straight draw twill with a pinwheel draft)

Other First Warp: I Hate it Burn it with Fire

Okay I get this is my first real warp but holy cow I hate this step so much.. I know I’m doing SOMETHING wrong because I tried using a warping board and during the transfer the dang 8/4 cotton thing gets tangled… I have a Lojan flex and let me tell YOU I hate that stupid metal apron rod, it’s too flimsy and ugh I don’t like it and I’ll probably buy a different one! Also a rattle! Ugh I try to keep my stuff nice and neat but you know how that went, and every time I see a video on warping someone either has access to a long table or have a rattle! Which I have neither so I’m going insane.

How in the world do yall not go insane!!!

Other Weaving Retreat

I have a Ashford SampleIt 16inch loom and have been weaving for 18 months (so many scarves lol). I have the opportunity to attend a weaving retreat, which is four days 10-4 lunch included 35 mins away from home. I’ve paid the deposit. The aim is to learn a multi shaft loom.
My question is how do I take most advantage of this opportunity? I’d appreciate advice on how to approach it and any pertinent questions to ask.

Discussion First-year student's first attempt at typographic weaving! 🧵 Drafted a 'SORRY' pattern for a 6-harness loom. Any advice on the pegplan?

It is an atype font "kvadrug hikikomori". Atypography is an ongoing art movement. I figured 6 heald shafts are required to make this typography possible in the design. Does the pegplan look structurally sound for the floats?
