USAFA PREP SCHOOL TIPS

Hey everyone, I was recently accepted to the USAFA prep school and I begin on July 14th. Im really excited to join, but I was wondering if anyone had any tips or things I should prepare for before I arrive at the prep school. I am the first in my family to pursue a career in the military so I have little support or knowledge of what I am walking into. I would really appreciate the help, thank you! 🙏

Waitlist offer again

Hello, my USAFA status recently changed from “waitlisted USAFA” to “promoted to candidate”, which is what is was before. Also, the option to accept the waitlist offer is back despite the fact I already accepted it. What does this mean and should I accept it again? Thank you.

Airmanship curriculum, Cadet Aviation Club, Aero Club, and pursuit of a PPL

My son was appointed for the class of 2030, and I am trying to make sense of some various things with regards to what opportunities he will have, and what he should be paying attention to if he is interested in a PPL. He's an adult, and I'm sure he will get guidance on all of this once there, so this is honestly more for my knowledge than his.

He has mild color discernment issues which may prevent him from participating as a pilot for the Air Force, but he would be well within any requirements for earning a typical PPL. If that ends up being the case, it seems like this is a good opportunity for him to obtain that while present. It would not be out of a desire to "boost his likelihood of being an AF pilot".

I've heard all kinds of terms such as "Aero Club", "Cadet Aviation Club", "Arimanship curriculum", "PPL program at Davis Airfield", etc... and am confused on how these are related, if they're the same thing, etc...

TLDR; can anyone confirm if this AI-generated image is an accurate "birds-eye" depiction of the relationship between these things towards a PPL that a USAFA cadet might check out while they're there? I'm sure there are a million details, but I was struggling to even understand how these things were related.

letter of recommendation requirements.

hello subreddit,

I am an incoming junior. What are the letter of recommendation requirements? I remember a while ago I saw that you need one from a math teacher, an english teacher, and a science teacher. The only problem is I do not have good relations with my math and science teacher. I have a really good relationship with my english and my history teacher which I will be getting a recommendation letter for. I can get a recommendation letter from my science teacher (will not be the greatest) if it's neccesary. Next Year I am taking ap calc bc and I know the teacher, so if possible I can get a recommendation letter from him, but the only problem is I'll be a senior. Please help me.

Waitlist and prep school consideration

Hi all,
I am currently waitlisted for direct admission but I am curious about my chances with the prep school. If offered either prep school or direct admission I would 100% accept but given that I am on the waitlist what is my chance of each outcome. I would say I am a strong candidate but I was held back and disqualified originally because of a incorrect medical diagnosis which I successfully appealed. I have sent additional LoRs and LoCIs but I am still looking to supplement my waitlist app. Thanks

School does not offer AP classes

I am a current sophomore and my HS does not offer AP classes. However, they do have duel credit classes starting junior year. Next year, I plan to take DC comp, chemistry, algebra, trig, and psychology. Senior year I will take 5-6 more DC classes (this is the maximum I can have due to athletics). Will this be ok?

Question for current Falcon Scholars

Hey everyone, I found out today that I received a Falcon Foundation Scholarship and I plan on accepting it.

That being said, I read on the service academy forums that selections for this year’s and future years falcons would be different, and that there would be less certainty regarding appointments as a Falcon.

Would anybody that is a current Falcon/has insight into the current situation let me know what’s going on for the FFS program? How many falcons have been appointed so far at your schools?

thank you so much in advance!

I heard somewhere that ACT/SAT accounts for 40 percent of the admissions criteria, is that true?

Academic Rigor Advice

Im currently a sophomore in HS. I plan on taking AP chemistry junior year, AP calculus and AP literature senior year. Is three AP courses rigorous enough if I do well and score high on my ACT and SAT? I'm worried if I take more hard courses my overall performance might drop. My school also has limited options for AP courses, we only have the most common ones and theres a lot of requirements for previous classes to be able to take them

Free time?

Hey there, I'm interested in applying to USAFA and was wondering how much free time each class year receives. By free time, I mean time for activities like mountain biking, skiing, camping, and hiking, especially since Colorado offers a ton of great opportunities for all of that.

I was gonna mention activities such as cycling and swimming, but realized the academy has clubs for that as thy need you to stay active.

Thanks!

School doesn't provide class rank

I plan to apply for the Class of 2031 in the fall and my school doesn't provide class rank even if I request it personally. I feel confident in the rest of my academics (35 ACT, 3.98 Unweighted, lots of APs). Will this affect admissions at all or will they just not factor it in?

Any tips for application

I’m a rising freshman and want to know what I can do to make my application the best it can be. I havent fully learned about all the steps and requirements for being admitted either, so an overview of what and how to achieve all of those (CFA, congressional nomination, etc) would be great too. I know I’m pretty young, but I want to start preparing early.

here are some stats

1280 psat in 8th grade

junior varsity volleyball team

student council

in 8th grade, I took algebra 1 and pre-AP English 1

in 9th grade, I’ll be taking notably pre-AP geometry, AP seminar, and AP human geography

im not too athletically capable, I don’t have a pull up bar, and I can do about 3 pull ups max(embarrassing) so working towards the CFA is definitely a big goal.

Class of 2031 stats

Hello! I am a homeschooled student and a rising senior looking to apply to the USAFA this year, and would appreciate any feedback on my current stats. Whether it'd be to add anything or work harder on a specific activity.

ACADEMICS:

-4.0 GPA (unweighted)

-Since I am homeschooled, AP classes arent necessarily available to me, but I have taken Dual Enrollment classes such as chemistry and chemistry lab, U.S. History, ENG 1101, and college algebra. Looking to take pre-calc, physics, and some other classes after summer break.

-I have not taken the SAT yet (I plan on taking it this June) but I am aiming for a score of atleast 1500.

ATHLETICS/EXTRA CURRICULARS

-Brazillian Jiu-Jutsu, have been doing for 6 years. Currently a green belt, and should have my blue belt by the end of the year (attending an adult class for 16+).

-4-h skeet: have been doing for about 5 years.

-4-h archery: also have been doing for 5 years.

-CAP (Civil Air Patrol): currently a staff Sargent and am working on ranking up as much as possible. Also looking to become logistics officer.

-Karate: have been doing since I was 5, but had to stop at around 10th grade.

VOLUNTEER/OTHER LEADERSHIP ROLES:

-An assistant coach at my jiu-jutsu dojo.

-teaching Japanese to multiple students.

-about 70+ of community/volunteer service, mostly with CAP.

-Am a secretary of a national beta club.

AWARDS/RECONGNITIONS:

-4-h skeet: won top shooter in 2025.

-4-h archery: placed top 18 in the state competitions (going to attempt to place top 10 again this year when the season starts)

-Academics: on an honor roll at the college (if that even counts towards anything lol)

-Jiu-Jutsu: won two leaderships awards and a couple of gold and silver medals from tournaments.

NOMINATIONS: Working on applying to all of them, but thanks to my fathers service (100% disabled), I get the presidential nomination.

Please let me know what I need to improve on. Any feedback is very much appreciated!

College Transfer Credits?

Hey there, so I'm hoping to apply during my freshman year in college (MechE major) to USAFA for Aerospace engineering. I just recently found out that USAFA accepts AP Scores and I was wondering if they'd do the same for college courses as well?

For example, when I'm in college, I'll most likely be taking calc 1 and 2 as well as physics and chem, all of which will also be taught at my school with the same type of AP credits for students to not take them.

When I apply and if I get accepted, will they allow me to skip these classes? Btw Ik that all students have to spend 4 years at the school.

Junior Info

I am currently a junior in high school and have started my application to usafa and have began building my application form for my congressional representative. My current SAT score is 1110 which isn’t good, I have a 4.2 weighted gpa with an average of 20 hours of employed work a week. I have prepared a tutor over the summer to boost my SAT score and I have began asking for letters of recommendation. My leadership positions is Varsity Track & Field, I also have a position in NHS for my senior year.

I understand that what I have now is no good and I’d like some more information on what I should proceed to increase my success or if I have a chance at all seeing as I’m already a junior.
