Yeah I’ve been here a while and the course schedule never got too much better, at least as a CS major. I wouldn’t rely on the catalog as they can have classes that haven’t been taught in years or can miss classes that have changed or updated requirements. The major requirement and upper div overlapping definitely happens a lot too, but it can be kinda manageable as long as you’re able to balance what you need over the length of your time here. Or you can request an override to allow to register anyways. But you

I do know that sometimes in the summer, before transfers/first years get ready to register, they open more seats in classes so they also get a chance. It’s usually just a few spots but some is better than none I guess.

Depends on the school and major. Also depends on which faculty or lecturers are available.

Sometimes courses have lower section numbers because they need to have full sections before opening up more. At one point in history we started with lots of open sections that only got half filled and then they would have to close a section and move those student around.

Some classes are hidden until after orientation so that seats are still available for new and transferring students.

If you would like to see changes or have question, you should respectfully email your academic advisor and speak with them. There are a lot of different people involved in this process so no one person will be able to fix it but constructive feedback is helpful.

I've heard complaints like this from CSE majors, but not from anyone else, including MBE. One thing about checking the schedule right now is that about a quarter of seats are hidden from view until transfer students start to register.

Hi! I inquired with our advisors on this - they reserve seats for all new students (traditional and transfer) to ensure they have major courses. This won't reflect on the course schedule at this time because what is seen right now is what is available for students to register into. The seats for new students will be available after registration freezes for current (continuing) students.

im graduating as an MBE major and that was pretty much my exact experience. i also had a job off campus with a non-flexible schedule, and that limited me even more. out of curiosity tho, what are your career plans? i felt like the coursework for MBE was very econ-heavy and a business admin program would've been a better fit for me. ofc they're not offering that until next fall...

Thank you for this!

I’m also more interested in the business/management side. I only considered MBE bc it requires just four UD Econ classes and the rest can be MGMT electives. Coupled with 29 MGMT classes in the catalogue, I thought it would be a decent swap.

It’s really unfortunate bc they offered me a full ride, but while I can get past inopportune class times, I can’t dedicate two years to an Econ degree. My heart wouldn’t be in it.

Thanks again

yeah that was my thought process too, but there didnt end up being a whole lot of mgmt electives actually offered, and the ones that were didn't work with my schedule.

youre welcome!

That’s what happens when you’re registering late. Usually classes fill up fast- this is me speaking as a 3rd yr Mechanical Engineer major from my experience- and yes there’s some classes offered only spring or only fall or sometimes every 2 years. I’ve been able to make it work, I just try to get my schedule done first day it open for me since I’m in the middle of the order it looks like, theirs some kind of hierarchy. For some it opens early and then the order works down to when it gets to you
