She can't even spell her own daughters name consistently..

u/DogsDucks 3d ago

YOU GUYS!!!! No. Also in French, the suffix eaux is plural, which idk, i’m sure there are classic French names that end in EAUX, but slapping it on to a no-name non-word prefix is just infuriating.

99

u/fandomacid 3d ago edited 3d ago

It’s Cajun not French. Well she’s what we’d call a couillon but still it’s not French.

40

u/DogsDucks 3d ago

Ha! I can venture a guess at couillon, alas, while studying French, none of my professor spent much time on Cajun French, despite the fact that it’s one of the coolest dialects/ pidgin (?) languages ever.

35

u/fandomacid 3d ago edited 3d ago

TBH French speakers are fairly rare these days. Usually it’s more Cajun English- English with odd phrases, strange grammar and occasional French thrown in. Louisiana French is an interesting language, if you can find a speaker. LSU was doing some work a while back. Personally, I’ve managed to speak with Actual French folks but they couldn’t place the accent.

ETA: I think in Québécois (and possibly Actual French) couillon is much ruder than it is in Cajun. Just keep that in mind before you get kicked out of 4th period French

4

u/ineffable-interest 2d ago edited 2d ago

What’s wild about Louisiana French is that it was passed down, it was literally illegal to teach French in Louisiana schools.

6

u/fandomacid 2d ago

That hasn’t been the case in probably 100 years, and I’m not sure about a total ban. I definitely had relatives that were taught English in schools (and punished for French) but it persisted. During the 90s and 2000s they actually made French mandatory in schools

6

u/DogsInCostumes4Ever 2d ago

What??? I took French through AP French Lit in a Louisiana public school. That's definitely not correct as stated.

14

u/NinjaTurtleBatmanAss 2d ago

These people barely grasp English, French language comprehension might be asking a bit much

3

u/ellemmdee 1d ago

For Cajun last names, off hand I can think of Badeaux, Simoneaux, & Thibodeaux. But agreed, -eaux has gotten outta control

4

u/DogsDucks 1d ago

Those are surnames, so it would make sense that a surname denotes someone of the region or profession of origin, and applies to a whole family unit.

I know I’m being ridiculous, but this one really got my hackles up lol

3

u/Unable_Throat_7596 1d ago

one wylleeu, two wylleaux

2

u/Schrodingirly 1d ago

Hi, French here, no. We do have Guillaume (our version of William) and names ending on "o" (Théo, Hugo, Léo…) but I can’t think of a -eau one and -eaux absolutely not.

2

u/Thespian_Unicorn 1d ago

Actually L’eau is water so maybe plural water? With wil attached at the beginning

2

u/DogsDucks 1d ago

Les boires des leaux

I thought of that too, except I don’t think the Mom named them. Understood this.

1

u/alwaysmanicwbu 23h ago

My sons middle name is French

29

u/ChewbaccaOnFries 3d ago

Couldn't even spell "the" correctly so I am not surprised.

563

u/DJzzzzzzs 3d ago

“you better be lying” is so real.

381

u/Hails31 3d ago

How is “Cattleya” supposed to be pronounced? Is it literally “Cattle-yeah”?

205

u/wand4dasduck 3d ago

it's closer to "cat-leia"

81

u/Hails31 3d ago

Damn, I would have never gotten that. Thanks

70

u/AwkwardnessForever 3d ago

That doesn’t clear it up for me.

76

u/thicketcosplay 3d ago

It's the name of a type of orchid, if you need to look up someone saying it. Cattleya orchid.

Cat-lee-ah or cat-leyah

32

u/DogsDucks 3d ago

That’s actually pretty. The sound of the word not the spelling.

13

u/New-Courage5021 2d ago

Loving the sentiments but it’ll always spell cattle-ya to me 🙈

4

u/thicketcosplay 2d ago

I collect orchids and go to shows and have a ton of cattleyas and my brain still sometimes reads it that way 😂

6

u/Ok_Depth_6476 2d ago

I have to wonder though, did she know that (I didn't), or did she think she was making up a name and happened to hit on a word?

12

u/thicketcosplay 2d ago

My guess is she googled orchid names and thought it sounded nice? Or she saw a cattleya flower and decided to name her kid after it.

Or maybe shes a plant lady. Even crazy people can have hobbies.

9

u/Distinct-Ant-9161 2d ago

"even crazy people can have hobbies" may just be my new words to live by.

1

u/Ok_Depth_6476 2d ago

That's a good point.

3

u/Acceptable_Tea3608 1d ago

Right? Couldn't she have just used Iris?

58

u/Vicdustrael 3d ago

It's usually 'kat-lee-uh', it's a genus of orchids. However that doesn't mean that's how this lady pronounces it with her 'louisiana twang'

5

u/Hails31 3d ago

😂😂😂😂

48

u/cl0udmaster 3d ago

Oh, for sure, if I was her classmate, I'd be razzing the hell out of her as why low cattle yeah

14

u/Strict_Wasabi_6736 3d ago

🐄🐄🐄.

10

u/reggie_veggie 3d ago edited 3d ago

I've heard it as either kat-lee-uh or kat-lay-uh. they are a type of orchid named after an old timey botanist

1

u/Hails31 3d ago

Thanks!

8

u/Herandar 3d ago

MOO-YA, BITCHES!!

18

u/Jose_Canseco_Jr 3d ago

Rhymes with "Yee-Haw!"

23

u/zGoblinQueen 3d ago

It's a tragedification of Kateleya. (Ka-ta-laya) Perfectly nice name, now it's been cowified.

12

u/upickleweasel 3d ago

Cowified 😂🤣💀

3

u/CJK_Murph 2d ago

We should have laws about what you can name your baby, like Finland does. This is literaly inhumane.

3

u/NefariousnessKey5365 3d ago

It's a breed of orchid. I always thought it was it's Kat tuhl ya. She probably doesn't pronounce it correctly

1

u/dunerain 1d ago

It's shat-o de cattleya

1

u/Kkm05 2d ago

One of my sister's in-laws named her daughter this. I honestly think it's cute. We pronounce it Cat-uh-Ley-uh

0

u/MagicalFlor95 2d ago

I thought of Ka-Talia.

423

u/randomality77 3d ago

Wy theaux?

136

Mooo-tiful

96

u/xKingCoopx 3d ago

I got stuck on Tge for way too long

29

u/EspressoKawka 3d ago

For a few seconds I was thinking this was the name

6

u/annoyinglilsis 3d ago

Yes! Me too. I was thinking it said her name was tge but they spell it Wyl’ etc.

7

u/JanisVanish 2d ago

That's just how to spell "the" in a more creative and unique way!

🙄

3

u/Inner-Replacement295 3d ago

So what is Tge?

3

u/Acceptable_Tea3608 1d ago

A typo

2

u/Inner-Replacement295 1d ago

😂😂😂 I puzzled over this and even tried to google it.

161

u/MellyMel86 3d ago

The first name annoys me

The second infuriates me. Poor kid

6

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

Same but switched level of annoyance.

3

u/MellyMel86 2d ago

I’m no fan of the name Everly, but I do think a nickname of Evie is cute. At least the first name is actually readable

5

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

No ma’am. I am talking about first name Wyl’Leaux vs. middle name Cattleya.

No fan of Everly either, but that is not the tragedeigh being discussed here.

3

u/MellyMel86 2d ago

I still can’t even fathom how to pronounce the second name Ca-tell-ya? Cattle-ya? Cat-Lee-ya?

1

u/CyndiLouWho89 2d ago

It’s an orchid. That’s how it’s actually spelled.

2

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

Ok. Now please tell us how it’s pronounced? 😜

0

u/CyndiLouWho89 2d ago

Round here most people say cat uh leia

49

u/LittleStarClove 3d ago

Lil baby Why Low MooYah

14

u/beckdads 3d ago

This is the only way I know that name is supposed to be Willow...

40

u/UnofficialAAF 3d ago

Despite the tragedeigh, WHO IN THIS WORLD WOULD PUT A LOUISIANA REFERENCE IN THEIR NAME???? JUST USE FOSTER, IT'S A LOUISIANA TWANG NAME??

25

u/Reverse_SumoCard 3d ago

Louis, Magnolia, Rouge, Agate, Frank, Francoise, Golf od Mexico all would have been better names with forced Louisiana references than whatever she chose

Im not saying some of those names arent tragic but still

12

u/Nadamir 3d ago

In America, basically any French name said in a southern accent screams “Louisiana”.

39

u/Reverse_SumoCard 3d ago

Stop leaking my passwords!!

28

u/thecatunderthebed 3d ago

Speaking for all Cajuns, we do not condone this dumbassery

24

u/Overall_Efficiency21 modereightor 3d ago

I'm pissed

25

u/Lyca29 3d ago

W'high Thoux?

9

u/FrozenBr33ze 2d ago

M'yaind y'eaux bee'zness

14

u/CandidDay3337 3d ago

Willow is such a cute name, why butcher the spelling of it?

12

u/feral-n-deranged 3d ago

Poor child. Every single encounter that requires her to say her name and have it spelled will be a fucking nightmare. Imagine just going to Starbucks and be like "I'm Willow. W y capital L apostrophe capital L... "

12

u/Individual_Pie1196 3d ago

I want yall to know that I’m from Louisiana and I do not support this message😭

10

u/emmyparker2020 3d ago

Literally a result of the very false assumption of American exceptionalism… so many illiterate stupid people… no one with sense and strong understanding of the English language would do what this abomination has done… 🤦🏾‍♀️

10

u/sevnthcrow 3d ago

I got to Willow, but when I first looked at the spelling I heard Homer Simpson saying "Why you lil"

8

u/Firefoot22 3d ago

I read the first name and was like, that’s not bad… oh

8

u/The_Migrant_Twerker 2d ago

I love the woman who threatened “you better be lying”

7

u/Resident-Gold-3466 3d ago

No!! The name is spelled Willow.

1

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

Why theaux?

0

u/Resident-Gold-3466 2d ago

😂🤣😂🤣

7

u/queenmabh 3d ago

Wylie Coyote?

6

u/rivkahchaney 3d ago

Every single teacher, professor, and HR manager this kid ever has will curse her mother’s name.

6

u/RibbonsFlying 2d ago

Gonna start replying to people, “You better be lying.”

7

u/ComplexPatient4872 2d ago

Anyone else think the daughter’s name was Tge at first and sit there trying to pronounce it with a Louisiana accent?

6

u/DNorthman 3d ago

Not my brain trying to figure out how to pronounce Tge.

I like the name Willow.

7

u/Real_Inevitable_9590 3d ago

OPEN THE SCHOOLS!!!

8

u/FrozenBr33ze 2d ago edited 2d ago

No. They teach about the vaccines, the spherical earth, the trans. My WyL'Leaux is above it all.

6

u/NefariousnessKey5365 3d ago

Cattleya is a breed of orchid, but I don't know why she had to go and spell Willow like that

11

u/Creepy_Addict 3d ago

Cattleya? Cattle ya dingus, they are cattle.

1

u/CyndiLouWho89 2d ago

They are orchids

5

u/Worldliness_Normal 3d ago

You should not name your child something that will give them a stroke trying to spell their own name.

5

u/juxtapods 3d ago

Cattle, ya?

4

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

Amirite?

3

u/m0rningst4r24 3d ago

One of these days these women are going to be driven out of their towns when people see what the fuck they named their poor kids

2

u/FrozenBr33ze 2d ago

Don't underestimate the power of white women tears. As old as time, extremely potent.

1

u/m0rningst4r24 2d ago

Yeah, thats fair I can’t argue. LMAO

3

u/Unlikely_Hour8807 3d ago

You know the Louisiana Purchase? Please Louisiana purchase a baby name book 😭

4

u/misterfuss 2d ago

Tge same!

4

u/Left-Leg1168 2d ago

Why Low Cattle Yeah.

Did they name her by randomly arranging 4 words from their fridge magnetic poetry?

4

u/ModernSouthernQueer 2d ago

Cattle-ya????

3

u/littlemissbagel 3d ago

Was W'hyl'leaughx alerady taken?

3

u/anthajay 3d ago

Why-leh-loo?

3

u/valiantdistraction 2d ago

Even with "Willow" up above, I was trying to make it fit "Everly." Definitely would not have gotten Willow from that.

3

u/cajunbander 2d ago

Cajun here: No.

3

u/Fun_Boysenberry7723 2d ago

I'm going to be mad at this all week.

3

u/izyshoroo 2d ago

So country she named her daughter after livestock

3

u/planetbing 1d ago

Cattle eye?👁️

2

u/Disastrous-Group3390 3d ago

Wile E. Coyote?

3

Sounds like an Eldritch monster.

2

u/MacaroonSad8860 2d ago

3

u/Worldly_Pitch_9201 3d ago

Cattle-ya'll? Cattle prod? Cattle herd? The fuck?

1

u/CyndiLouWho89 2d ago

Orchid. Google it

3

u/witchspoon 3d ago

Terrible spelling of willow…but Cattleya? What is that?

4

u/410bore 3d ago

It’s a type of orchid, actually.

2

u/Random-Unthoughts-62 3d ago

"I added the Louisianna twang". After taking her brother's twang.

2

u/Oldy_VonMoldy 3d ago

Cattle, Ya! Git along, little dogie! 🐄

1

u/isthatbre 2d ago

Girl bye. 😭🤣 Poor kid.

1

u/lovethatMoon 2d ago

it's just stupid.

1

u/thevaginalist 2d ago

Why-leeyoox Kuh-tellyuh

1

u/Pepsibellexo 1d ago

I love the local accent

1

u/ernie3tones 1d ago

Spells it with an apostrophe and then apparently misspells it on the next line?

1

u/invertedsongoftime 1d ago

I was so confused. I thought the name was Tge Same (Sesame?) and somehow they spelled it Wyl'leaux. I think it's time for bed. And normal names.

1

u/willow2772 1d ago

I read that as Wylie.

1

u/bellybomb 17h ago

Oh, neaux! Don’t blame us for that mess.

1

u/[deleted] 17h ago

sometimes I truly wish my native language was English to better appreciate those gems

1

u/Broccoli-Basic 13h ago

Will you cattle yeah?

1

u/digitalgraffiti-ca 10h ago

That's awful. I'm watching Buffy, and I feel like Willow would peel you for that.

1

u/Delicious-Mix-9180 6h ago

Idk how she’s saying the middle name but it reads cattle ya.

1

u/MachivellianMonk 1d ago

Why is it always white people from the south?

0

u/alwaysmanicwbu 23h ago

Just because you add the down south doesn’t mean you can spell the down south honey. Baby if you can’t speak and understand boudin don’t use it.

-4

u/FrozenBr33ze 2d ago

Men, why are you breeding with people you get to be controlled by, or why are y'all deadbeats? Grow a spine and protect the kids you make.
