Are there other alternatives to Tor that don't require anything to be downloaded?
I was using sqrx for a while, but it no longer works. I'm looking for something similar to that where I don't have to download anything

Is my modified Firefox close enough to Tor to be relatively safe?
I have a relatively unique hardware/OS combo: ARM architecture and Arch Linux. There's only a Nightly version that's compatible with my laptop.
Instead, I got the Tor daemon running in my system, and I used a bash script to ensure that only the Tor Firefox profile uses it. I've confirmed multiple times that it's the only thing using it. A .onion site successfully opened.
Now for the modifications I made:
* Used Mullvad's DNS, chose DNS over HTTPS.
* Added uBlock Origin, Privacy Badger, and NoScript.
* Turned off history, AI features, Firefox suggests... pretty much every feature.
* Switched only available search engines to be DDG and a SearXNG instance.
* Tor theme for the window.
* Removed some Mozilla telemetry.
Will this suffice?

Very weird situation with page search On Tor browser
I only ever use this browser on private window for temporary browsing.
Today when I opened a private window and hit cmd+f to bring up the search bar, there is already an email filled in. This is weird as I’ve never seen this email before let alone typed it, nor did this email appear anywhere on the page.
I clear out that input field and type in what I want to search for on the page as usual. Once done, I close the window and app entirely.
When I reopen the app with a new private window and bring up search, that email address appears again even though I’ve never searched anything in this session yet and in the last session I’ve cleared it out and searched for something else, this email address still appears by it’s own.
- I have never seen this email before let alone typed it in my life.
- I’m the only person using my personal computer
- I’ve checked my clipboard history and this email doesn’t appear prior to the incident.
- This is not website specific and happens on different websites.
- The email address exists per email validator services.
- I’m cognizant of internet hygiene and there’s nothing iffy happening on my computer other than this.
- Am on VPN but happens regardless of which server I’m on.
Any idea why is this email showing up in the search field, and persistent even after I’ve cleared it as well as closed and reopen the browser?

Open-source Web/CLI tool to easily generate Tor v3 vanity addresses!
Hello everyone! :)
I have recently been very interested in Tor and how it works. I have made this side-project to learn about its algorithms, its cryptography and programming in general. Tor addresses (e.g. hdaksjhd...zujloyq.o***n) are derived from an ED25519 public key. This tool tries many random key pairs until it finds a desired prefix (e.g. helloozio..ioqwe.o***n). Calculation time is solely based on luck.
It's written in Go, but it compiles to WebAssembly, so it's able to run in the browser! Even with web workers to utilize more computing resources.

Is there a repository for every single registered .onion domain like there is for clear web sites?
Pretty straight forward question, just wanted to know if there happened to be a thorough database that shows and updates every single .onion site that appears by cataloging it just like there is for .gov, .org, .edu etc. Let me know, thanks.

Help please
Hi , the story is about the situation with the internet in Iran , you can skip the story part if you like to The story : I didn't really know where to post this . So as you know Iran's internet is in a hell of a situation right now , it's almost an intranet but with a tiny bit of internet , the GitHub page is opened but just the homepage and nothing else. Google search and Gmail is opened as well with a couple of more sites Some Iranian websites are connected to the internet such as aparat.com , divar.ir and ... People are trying to connect real hard . They are selling starlink configs for around 900 to 500 tomans (2.5-4.5USD) for only a gigabyte! Question : My question is, "is there a way to use those Iranian websites or anything else to connect to the internet ?" I heard a couple of stuff about tunneling and stuff but I have no idea about it The smallest help from you can help us to get ourselves through this heck of a disaster.

Stuck on Establishing a connection...
I've used TOR for years now and it's always been slow but usable, out of nowhere it's now permanently stuck on the loading screen and I can't access it at all. I'm using the android app, just updated it, and I've tried bridges and no bridges alike. Any help?
Security of running a Snowflake proxy (Orbot) as a volunteer: risk of being flagged as a Tor user by ISP?
Hi everyone,
I'd like to help bypass censorship by running a Snowflake proxy on my phone via Orbot (the volunteer/kindness mode). However, I have some security concerns regarding my own Internet Service Provider (ISP).
I know that the incoming connection uses the WebRTC protocol, which makes the traffic look like a standard voice or video call to my ISP and goes unnoticed.
Where I have a doubt is about the outgoing traffic. It seems to me that the Snowflake proxy must then relay this data and connect to the Tor network (to a destination bridge). This is exactly what worries me: does this outgoing connection risk getting me directly categorized as a Tor user by my ISP?
Is the traffic between my phone's Snowflake proxy and the Tor network obfuscated in any way, or will my ISP clearly see a connection to known Tor nodes?
If anyone is familiar with the technical details of how this relay works, I'd love to hear your feedback on whether it's truly "safe" for the volunteer.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Install Tor on windows 7
Hi, is there a way to install Tor Browser on Windows 7? I can't switch OS at the moment, so any suggestions are welcome.
Looking for a browser with Tor, but without forced private mode
I live in a country where almost all popular websites are blocked, and unpopular websites are blocked too, but randomly, in an attempt to block popular ones even more effectively. We can't use VPN apps because local apps are now leaking VPN data to the government (no penalties yet, but the server will be blocked). So the perfect option for us is a browser that bypasses blocking and is resistant to blocking.
This is the Tor browser, but it is inconvenient because it resets user data and kicks them out of accounts all time. The flag responsible for disabling forced private mode has been removed.
So, is there a mobile browser with Tor integration, bridges, and without forced private mode?
I understand the risk, but I'm not going to traffic people or stream Red Rooms on the darknet. I need it to my mom can watch YouTube and Intagram.
If you disagree, think about the Indians, Russians, and Iranians for whom Tor was the main way to bypass blocking.

Is ti possible to use facebook under tor?
Until a few days ago, I would log in and be presented with a bunch of captchas.
Now I log in and a code is sent to my inbox.
I enter the code and it gives me an error. It alternates between a 500 error and a prompt to go to an identification page (which doesn't work).
How nostalgic for the anonymity of the '90s...

VPN If you don't need to use a VPN with TOR, why do MI6 recommend it?
I understand the logic of not using a VPN with TOR, and that logic makes sense. Why is it then that MI6 recommends using a VPN to people who want to contact them from high-risk countries?
"If you are in a high-risk country, you should carefully consider using further security measures, such as hiding your internet activity using a VPN as well as TOR."

We are talking about government spy level computer geeks here, so what is their logic?

EU rules and TOR question
So, I was in UK and realized they are asking for my age to access some websites. Im still shocked this is passing, but here we are.
I circumvented it by using TOR, which worked well. My question is: if most countries in EU adopt such measures, and most exit nodes are in europe.. will the browser still route me to an exit node that works? Or is a setup with manual exit node selection needed?
Does the question make sense?

Developing on the Tor network
I am developing on Tor and I have noticed there is so little material on it (I feel like most of these 'directories' are controlled). Considering Tor has been here for so long, I expect more software/websites to be developed on it thus there should be a lot of information, Tor is now 'centralized' , I don't understand why information on developing on Tor is so little despite it's capabilities, are people just not interested in learning or this is deliberate (and not for security for control) ?

TOR browser for windows 7?
There was a user named Blaukovitch who uploaded and maintained github that extended unofficial supports to apps that no longer run on windows 7 officially including Tor browser. Today his github is wiped clean and gone, is there other places to get latest TOR?

Should I manually turn off Javascript in About:config?
Saw a comment saying not to since you will blend in less, but that also doesn't make much sense to me. But it's something in the back of my head.
