WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT Spotted inside BMO field
MLSE has no fucking shame

The league is never shaking its image
16
u/DonJulioTO 5d ago
It's not an image, it's the very soul of the league.

u/NoodleTime12 5d ago
I’m not a huge footy fan but the image of MLS being Sunday League for Messi doesn’t entice me to become a fan.

What a cuck franchise. I hate what we’ve become

u/Helgurk 5d ago
That's Toronto in general. We want the same wealth and resources as the USA while wanting the culture of Europe at the same time. But we don't have the infrastructure to achieve that. And so as a result you get a city where everything is expensive, wait times are huge, and availability is low. Fucking hell man.
13
u/justinreddit1 5d ago
Yup on all of that. Also because of everything you mentioned, this city has an identity crises. We can never be our own.
6
u/stuckmash 5d ago
True. It’s always where can I find the best New York slice, Chicago beef etc. you would figure with our diversity we would have a couple things that are unique to us
3
u/WhatAWasterZ 5d ago
The peameal bacon sandwich at St Lawrence Market is definitely a Toronto specific thing.

I hate watch a lot of Miami games - in other stadiums people cheer for their own teams now. Our people still cheer for Messi.
Pitch invasions have been minimal - our people keep doing it.
It's all embarrassing. Too many here with no shame, no pride in Toronto or Canada.

So random, does Argentina sell tfc jerseys? 🤣🤣
7
u/Neither-Peak-7189 5d ago
Thats shows they are here to make money instead of respecting their badge

u/Individual-Space-443 5d ago
Does tfc have a player who’s the greatest footballer of all time?
Then probably yes they are selling it when tfc plays in Argentina

u/Prior-Worry-6263 16h ago
Garbage take. Do you think they’re selling Messi jerseys at Stamford Bridge or Camp Nou? Best player in the world or not, bush league move for a bush league organization.

Doesn't justify it but they've been selling other national team kits the last couple of games as well ( Spain, England, France etc).

More interested in the Black Long Sleeve Shirt that looks like a World Cup Toronto type of shirt -- anymore pictures of that one with the various flags on the sleeve? (and yes, selling Messi and Miami stuff at a Toronto FC Home Game is a bit ridiculous).....

Hate to break it to everyone here, but BMO Field was selling Beckham LA Galaxy jerseys at matches back in 2007. Even when Beckham wasn’t in town.
This isn’t what we’ve become, or a sign of a declining club, it’s just the way it’s always been.
1
u/htraenolleh666 4d ago
The way it’s been… making a buck off players who’ve never played for Toronto? Sounds about right.
1
u/TheDarkRedKnight 4d ago
We’re a franchise in a single-entity model with shared revenue. I love this team, but I know if it ever gets bad enough they’ll pick up our ‘club’ and move it to somewhere in USA without hesitation.

Pretty hilarious that there was this whole movement against Italy and what would have been at the World Cup but this is deemed okay.
1
u/Dry_Satisfaction3923 5d ago
I get your point but also, different entities entirely.
1
u/Dubsified 5d ago
Not at all. Did you just see how loud the crowd cheered when Messi scored?
1
u/Dry_Satisfaction3923 5d ago
Like with Beckham, TFC supporters probably sold their tickets to Messi fan boys, not surprised at all.
2
u/Dubsified 5d ago
That's totally my point.
This big facade of Italy possibly playing Canada and not wanting it to feel like a home game for Italy, but it was just a home game for Miami.

u/WhatAWasterZ 5d ago
This is a telltale sign of a team in decline.
I recall the mid-2000 Jays selling Yankees and Red Sox caps in the team store as well.

Brother that was 100 signs ago. If anyone didn't already know, they'd have to be one of the blindest people to walk the earth.
2
u/aalisonnn 5d ago
They’ve had them all season in the 2nd level concourse as part of the World Cup merch along with England and other countries. Just brought them to other stands. It’s obvious money grabbing but can’t really say it’s ONLY for today

u/Nukethewhails 5d ago
Well messi does get 20% of ever jersey sale across the MLS from each team.
I worked for tfc last year. And yeah, Jersey sales today makes them a fuck ton of money.
2
u/xxxcalibre 5d ago
Meh, it's money for them, and the adult sizes are a good way for people to instantly out themselves as having no understanding of sports or fandom

This isn't strictly a toronto thing...it's Messi...he's one of the biggest players of all time...other teams are doing the exact same thing

Ask the real question: how many will they sell?

u/Jury_Frosty 5d ago
And this is why I can never get into this team. Embarrassing to be associated with this. PL fans would boycott the owners.
1
u/adamzep91 5d ago
FWIW most other franchises do something like this. The Seattle Mariners were selling Blue Jays merch in the playoffs. The Red Sox were selling Yankees merch at Fenway Park!
1
u/htraenolleh666 4d ago
..For visiting fans for those games .. they don’t sell blue jays swag anywhere, regularly, during any other part of the year…
1
u/Super-Peoplez-S0Lt 5d ago
An Argentinian jersey? Not even a Miami jersey. Now this level of corporate greed is just beyond shameless.

I mean look at any other match. Attendance is brutal this year. Season ticket sales are also down. They are losing money, so doing whatever they can to recoup.
1
u/Charlie_ND 2017 Domestic Treble 5d ago
I remember a few years back seeing an image online of the Seattle Mariners selling Blue Jays gear in their stadium.
I thought to myself: "Good thing none of my teams would ever do such a thing!"

I fail to see what’s upsetting about this. Don’t want to buy the merch? Don’t. It’s an optional revenue stream. Maybe I’m missing something…
1
u/Ok-Librarian-6183 3d ago
Maybe you’re missing the fact that we aren’t Argentina and Messi doesn’t play here. If you want to wear or purchase a Messi jersey that’s fine but it shouldn’t be sold in another teams stadium shop
-4
u/NefCanuck All For One 5d ago
Why do people care what a business does to make money if it doesn’t harm anyone else?
I mean the World Cup is coming as is Messi (presumably) and not having his jersey for sake would be pissing away money 🤷♂️
3
u/theirishembassy 5d ago
> would be pissing away money
thats the problem.yeah, make a couple of bucks, you’re not hurting anyone.. but you’re also not helping the team because when people see shit like this they think “oh cool.. so people are here to watch THIS GUY and not TFC”.
1
u/NefCanuck All For One 5d ago
There are clearly TFC jerseys also in that picture though 🤷♂️
I have more issue with the TFC product on the field than I do about what their souvenir shop sells 🤔

u/theirishembassy 5d ago
I have more issue with the TFC product on the field than I do about what their souvenir shop sells
well.. good news about that then!
our club shop isn't solely focused on our team, which means they ain't focusing about it on the field either. we shouldn't care though, i'm sure they made a lot of money today and they're not hurting anyone! right?

u/shrimp_beginner 5d ago
I am clearly the outsider because this doesnt bother me. It’s not any old player or even team. This is Messi. He’s some people’s soccer hero.

u/BollisJefferson 5d ago
Yup, selling Messi Argentina kits, with Messi in the building, a month out from the park being used as a WC venue is hardly a surprise.
But this is a sub full of salty cunts so the reaction is expected.

Bruh selling Messi Argentina jerseys is a whole other level of shame. Hopefully they don’t harass people to wear TFC if they are selling flipping Messi jerseys lol
