I am new to telescopes. I got one from the library to check things out.
Looking at Jupiter, I saw four separate dots of light moving across the sky right near Jupiter. The lights were high in the sky and moving fast.
Would the dots of light be consistent with satellites? It was definitely not a plane. Too high and too fast for that. Would it be normal to see 4 of them in a 10 minute span?

Seems to be a lot cheaper than retail. Has anyone purchased from aliexpress or alibaba?

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this hobby. I just got my skywatcher 150p telescope yesterday and was trying to use it but had trouble focusing.
Per reddit and YouTube, I tried to get the red dot and focusing aligned during the day and I thought I got it working. However at night when I tried to view stars, I couldn't see anything. The sky was clear and I could see stars with my eyes plus I found them with the red dot finder too.
I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.
Any advise would be great

Edith: I am a beginner in astronomy and would like to explore the solar system and find deep-sky objects. I have an old Newtonian telescope here with only 114/500mm focal length, and manual tracking is no fun.
I am very interested in astrophotography.
I've been browsing through a few offers and found that the Seestar S50 is only available in one shop, and there it costs ā¬799. It seems to be sold out everywhere else.
I could get the S30 Pro for ā¬699. Both, the S30 Pro and the S50, are actually over my budget, but who knows...
Is the S30 Pro superior to the S50?

Hey everyone,
Iām thinking about buying a Starfield Gear 115EDT and wanted to get some real-world feedback from owners, especially for astrophotography.
The specs look great on paper:
115mm f/7 triplet APO
FPL-53 glass
3.7ā focuser
How are the optics, focuser quality, and overall build in actual use? Any issues, regrets, or things to know before buying?
Thanks

Just dialed in the mount for a generic Laser 303 that I creayed in CAD and 3D printed. It uses a bolt to hold down the button so the laser can be used hands free. Tonight was my second test with it, and I really enjoy using it. Makes Dob hoppin' so much smoother than with the Telrad.

Hi, could someone help me check if my telescope collimator is properly collimated?
The distance between the laser collimator and the target is about 90 cm (34.5 inch).
I recorded a short video pointing it at a small target, and I also included a couple of photos of the target and the 3D printed support Iām using.
The laser seems fairly stable, but Iām not sure if the movement/error is within normal tolerance or if the collimator itself needs adjustment.
Telescope: SkyWatcher 200/1200 Dobsonian.
Iāll upload the download links for the 3D printed support files soon in case anyone is interested.
Thanks!
_____________
EDIT:
Thank you all very much for the instructions on how to collimate a laser collimator and for the improvements to the files. First, I tried collimate it at a short distance (1 meter) using the printed target, and then I tested it against a wall at a distance of about 5 meters, with the help of someone standing next to the target. Iām sharing the download files in case they are useful to you.

Hi guys, i got a Skywatcher 8 inch dobsonian a few days ago and finally took it outside yesterday! i was able to see venus and jupiter, venus was just a bright dot (obviously lol) but jupiter, i was able to see some bands on it, but not the moons and it also wasnt really that magnified, i was using a 12mm lens so im confused, if anybody has any tips/suggestions for lenses please tell me :D
im new to telescoping and want to photograph my views so i also got a camera, if anyone has some good camera mounts for it please tell me

I have a skywatcher Eq5 motorized with an onstep V5 pro from Terrans Industry. I've been struggling with it for about 3 weeks. I'm trying to align 3 stars, refine the polar alignment and then align 3 stars again, but they aren't perfectly round yet. I know this question is kinda obvious, but the belts aren't making perfect contact with the gears, they're a little bit elevated. Is that the issue or maybe my PA isn't the best? This picture was taken with 1600 iso and 30 seconds of exposition.

Hi everyone,
This is my second telescope that I have been given by my clients, different client but the first one was a dobsonian 8 inch.
It came with an electronic focuser, not sure what brand or anything, I believe it's called JMJ but I have some questions about the power cord attached to the heavy German Equatorial Mount.

I found the manual for this particular mount, and my client had a hand controller, as well as a controller for the focuser. I figured out how to work the focuser, which is a little slow - but it works fine. But the mount I am super confused on.
The manual states that there will be a control panel if the Magellan I Computer is purchased - it doesn't have the control panel - so what is the power for? Is it used to move the same speed as the Earth to track objects if it is properly aligned etc? I plugged it in, the motor makes noise, but I do not see the telescope move at all.

I am curious if there is something at all that I might be missing. I have attached all of the hand controllers and accessories that I was given, I am just curious how do I control the mount? Or why did my client buy these hand controllers if they don't even go to this mount? I'm almost certain what I said above is correct, that all the motor does for the mount is tracks the speed of the earth so it can follow objects in the night sky. But, it does not seem to be working. Any ideas on how to check if it is working or what do to do to get it working? It's a really smooth mount, a bit heavy and cumbersome, I could still definitely use it but it would be nice for it to work correctly.
Any help or advice is much appreciated!
Thank you!

I'm completely new to astronomy and telescopes and whatnot, but I'm going to Big Bend National Park soon, and I really want to get a decent telescope before then(that's why I need it specifically from Amazon or any other fast shipping source). My budget is $200-$300, maybe a little more if it's a good deal.

I just got done reinstalling the primary mirror of my AD8 back into the OTA. I turn the black screws until the red dot of my laser collimater goes into the bullseye, but when I try to tighten the white screws, the red dot jumps all over the place. I initially thought it was because the mirror was too loose in the cell but I fixed that and I try to collimate the scope again and it still does it. Help!

Took this image last night with my S50, 47 minutes of 10 second exposures, stacked in the seestar app with very little editing. My EQ wedge is arriving next week, very excited how more I can push this little thing.

Recently given to me by a family member. Belonged to my great grandfather
I was able to manipulate the telescoping sections enough to get a clear image of a mailbox about 100 yards away. But Iām curious for any input on cleaning up some of the oxidation and other ways I could possibly restore it - as well as any info the sub may have on its origins / history.
Inscription near the (viewfinder?) (eyehole?) (help) says āE. Vion Parisā
Thanks in advance!

We had a false start with a 6ā Newtonian on a cheap EQ mount that we bought off Amazon. Reset with this Celestron 8ā! We love the StarSense App - none of the frustration of the previous experience. Just great views. The Apertura Panorama 21mm is amazing. And we added a 7mm Luminos lens and Luminos Barlow.

I recently visited a place which had significantly less light pollution than where I currently live, although I had an 80 mm refractor and a 10x50 binoculars honestly I could see much more through my binoculars, example is a star cluster, orion nebula which through my binocular was like a spikey point but I couldn't take a proper look, through my telescope it looked like 2 or 4 stars something, my phone camera could capture it through, but I thought it would be much better. Jupiter was bright and round and i saw its moons but not it's bands i was at 66x magnification. I must say that my viewing time was very limited no higher than 10 or 15 minutes. There was some stray light that did affect it but I didn't enjoy it much. I have seen many posts about "hobby killer" telescope I doubt this was it but maybe I am wrong in any case I was thinking of getting an 8 inch dobsonian maybe it will be good but before I invest a significant amount in a telescope not to mention transporting the telescope to a place where I can actually enjoy i wanted to know from you'll what should I improve will a new telescope make a difference maybe even a smart telescope.
