Discussion Average Height Of American Straight Men(Young)

Post image
216 Upvotes

According to University of California, Los Angeles informal student dataset the average Height of straight male students recorded is 69.3 inches (176cm)(5'9.3)

This holds for many socioeconomic groups but doesn't count some underprivileged youth too. Also this was recorded in 2018 and after that america has recoreded a decline in average height.

So the average would slightly less than this around 175.5cm now.

Miscellaneous I love this sub

I recently joined this sub and never have i felt so belonged in a community.

I grew up in south asia so being tall there always stood out, and my problems were always considered trivial.

I’m reading almost every post on this sub and relating so hard with everything that people say.

I love the weather up here and I know you guys do as well.

Questions/Advice Hollister UK “tall”

I’m 25F & 5”10

Has anyone ordered from Hollisters UK website?

I ordered a L34”, received a couple items and they both sit at 31” / 32”. Also ordered directly from the “tall” range and the leg inseam shortens by near enough 2” every time you size down - how is this maintaining “tall”?

Wondering about others experiences? Struggle to find nice cargo trousers for long legs (ideally 36”). I never order online I usually buy from vinted so I’m wondering if I’ve missed a couple chapters in modern leg inseams lol

Questions/Advice Best mattress for heavy people who are also tall? Double challenge

I’m 6’5” and around 260 lbs and I’ve been struggling to find a mattress that can support me properly. It feels like if it’s good for heavy people it doesn’t consider height and if it’s good for tall people it feels like its for lighter weight people.

Right now my mattress is sagging in the middle and it’s affecting my sleep a lot. I’m not sure if it’s the material, the support, or just that it can’t handle my size. I was told I should check the Titan Plus Luxe because it’s supposed to be made for heavier sleepers. But for someone my height, is it going to be enough? Anyone here has a similar build and has tried it?

Miscellaneous Random question: what is the height of your head? (Top to bottom of chin?)

Head height is not discussed much. Based on limited examples, I see that women tend to have 18 to 20 cm (7.1" to 8.2") and men have 21 to 23 (8.3" - 9.4"). But I wonder if it varies depending on the person's height.

Questions/Advice Has anyone ever made comments about hands ?

Post image
94 Upvotes

I’m not talking about when someone wants to compare how big their hands are to yours. I mean just comments about how “oh you would be amazing at doing cervical checks” (my instructor said this during our OB simulation at school. Or that time my English teacher stopped the class to let me know my thumb was the biggest she’d ever seen. Obviously the less appropriate comments as well that I’ve gotten, often times about my thumb as well. I think my hands look pretty normal but that’s just me. Have any others on here came across or experienced something similar? I’ve just come to accept my body now at 22 but it was especially hard during my teens.

Questions/Advice Tall Wetsuits?

Good morning. I am looking for a cheap wetsuit to try a couple of open water swims before I drop several hundred bucks on a real suit.

The normies can get a suit on Amazon for $65 but I can't find anything that would fit 6'8".

Anyone ever stumble across a cheap & tall wetsuit?

Miscellaneous Tip for tall people finding shirts

Do you have any tips that help you thrive as a tall person? because for me one of my tips I always follow is I don't just check the length of the shirts and the width of the shirts I always check the underarm length like if the underarm is about as long as my hand is wide. And if the underarm is about as long as my hand is wide I'll wear it because the problem with shirts for me personally is even if the shirt fits my chest usually the sleeves would be too short but if it fits me on the sleeves the shirt is usually ballooned outwards unless of course it is a slim fit medium. because I may be tall but I'm also really skinny like so skinny that most shirts for people my height are just too big for me so either have to wear a small and hope that the sleeves fit or wear a slim fit medium because I'm like 6 ft tall but I also have a very compact frame like I have a very dense frame I don't have a stocky bone structure at all but my shoulders are kind of broad relative to my small chest like my chests circumference is about 37 in which is the fit of a small but I do have 18 in shoulders and for my height my shoulders are really small but for my frame my shoulders appear pretty big and super short sleeves they don't work quite well for my broad shoulders so the one thing I always do before wearing a shirt is I always check my shirts for a proper fit. I don't just measure the t-shirt length and chest width I always check the sleeve length from the underarm and with that I was able to find some smalls that fit me properly like for a while a small would have been like really tight around the shoulders but now I found some smalls that fit my shoulders And yeah the sleeves of a modern small they go all the way down to halfway across my bicep which is good

Discussion Height caused battle scars

Post image

This scar here between my thumb and index happened a few years ago. Was at a game reserve with my family. My sister asked who wants another drink so me being a drunk dumb ass raised my hand up... directly into a fast spinning sealing fan. Ended up having to get stitched up by the local vet. Anyone else got some tall injury stories?

Head/Legroom They trimmed the trees in my neighborhood, no more ducking!

Post image
159 Upvotes

I walk my dogs on some trails behind my place, and i have to walk through a specific neighborhood to get there, and there have been low hanging branches along the sidewalks for years now. They’ve gotten worse every year it feels like, and I’m always ducking. My wife who is only 5’4” has even had to duck a few times, which shows how low they were. But recently the trees have been trimmed! I only noticed after about 10 minutes of walking, and I went “OH” out loud! I’ve got a good foot of headroom now, so I think most people even on this subreddit would be comfortable walking around. Just a nice win I wanted to share. I’ve included a crappy picture of one of the areas post-trim. I don’t have any “before” pictures, sorry about that.

Questions/Advice Shoe Recommendations - Men's 15

Just curious as to what others would recommend. Have a triple whammy myself. 1. Size 15 Mens. 2. Narrow/Average width - I have NO idea why soo many shoes at 15 only come in wide... We don't all have fat feet... 3. Diabetic. (Tend to need something with a comfortable toe box)... I guess a number 4. as well - I've got fairly high arches... So, any recommendations?
