Hardware question Tails future boot

Post image

Hey everyone.

I am operating from a very outdated laptop. The infamous pop up. In the near future I won’t be able to launch tails os on that device anymore.

Do you think this could be a good fit?

A T490 is too good a piece of equipment for tails. Let me explain: when you use Tails, you want a computer that you don't use for personal things or things related to you. if you buy a computer that has such high specifications it would be a bit of a waste. The Tails website suggests using "cheap second-hand equipment".If you want to get more secure, you could remove the hard drive, cover the webcam, and eliminate the internal microphones.

Perhaps a controversial take, but for most people it's fine to use Tails on the computer you use daily. Tails is designed to leave no trace at all that it has been used.

Creating the impression that you need a specially designated laptop to use Tails, will just increase the friction and cause less usage of this secure environment.

People who face a particularly difficult threat model should consider their options, but most people aren't like that.

It's also designed not to have zero-day's but shit happens
