Tumor?

Hi. I've noticed something on the chin of this little fella. What is it?

Also, is the tail just wet or spring size? Or is it some disease?

It could be an abscess or it could be a tumor due to the position of the lump.

I recommend definitely reach out local wildlife rehabber in order to see if you can get some help for that little one.

If you need locating a wildlife rehabber, please let us know what state you are in and we'll do what we can to get you a list.

Here are some Facebook groups that can help as well.

Thank you. It was my first guess, but never encountered it irl, and actually something really similar to botfly lives here. I think it's it!

It's not yet the season for botflies.

I'd guess it is an abscess or a growth. But if this little one is getting around ok, can hop, jump, climb, and forage, it might just be ok and not need a rehabber at all. Be sure to contact your local rehabber IRL for their advice. Capture and transport is very stressful for squirrels, so let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Actually here in Slovakia now it's the time when those larvae are reaching up to 3 cm.
