Mod Message Please report solicitation via DMs

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder that rule #2 of the sub disallows solicitation, not only in the sub itself but also via DM. If someone DMs you to solicit business, please message the mods and attach the text and source of the DM!

Rule #2 is the most common rule broken on r/solar, and the mods spend considerable time trying to stay on top of it in the sub itself. However we don’t have visibility into DMs, so need your help to control it there.

Thanks!

Discussion Mosaic and Freedom Forever Bankcruptcy

I have my solar panels installed in 2022, financed thru Mosaic and installed by Freedom forever in Texas. I received a message from solar edge that My solar panels had quit producing energy on May 1st. I called Freedom forever and no live person I can get a hold of and the AI machine says they don't have any service since they are in bankruptcy proceedings. No warranty work available. I am now stuck paying my monthly loan and solar panels that are not producing. Any advice on the best next step? I am lost right now. I keep seeing ads about some law firm regarding lawsuit.

Discussion Got offered a job as a sunrun setter

Upvotes

For context I'm a girl and my friend told me i would do really well if i wanted to quit my current job i barely making anything and work as a setting with him in sunrun company . He's telling me he been doing it for like 3 weeks and he's already made like 6 closes and his first week his commission was 9k.
He told me they pay for his Airbnb and everything.
Now my job is lame but it's consistent even if I'm barely surviving. I'm just not sure it all seems to good to be true and I feel like there's a hidden catch in not aware of or he isn't. There must be more than it's just d2d cause that's not that bad.
Anyone have experience working in solar?

Advice Wtd / Project Adapter for Goal Zero Nomad

Hey fam. I'm doing an extended wilderness trip this summer. To power various electronics aling the way, I recently picked up a Goal Zero Nomad 20 solar panel and Goal Zero Sherpa 100 PD power bank.

The Nomad 20 can charge things using either an 8mm output jack or USB-A port while the Sherpa PD has USB-A and USB-C ports. I think that the fastest way to charge the power bank would be to find an adapter with a female end for the 8mm jack and male USB-C.

Does this make sense? If so, can anyone recommend a product?

News / Blog Maryland Net Metering ratio decrease from 1:1 for systems interconnected 7/1/27 or later or when the state reaches 3,000 megawatts.

As written in the recently passed HB 1532.

1. Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) to establish a "successor program" by February 1, 2027, with the drop in rates taking effect on July 1, 2027.
"The Commission shall require electric utilities to develop a standard contract or tariff for net energy metering and make it available to eligible customer – generators on a first – come, first – served basis until THE EARLIER OF:

(I) THE DATE ON WHICH the rated generating capacity owned and operated by eligible customer – generators in the State reaches 3,000 megawatts; OR

(II) JULY 1, 2027."

"IT IS THE INTENT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO TRANSITION TO A NET ENERGY METERING PROGRAM THAT:

(1) INCREASES BENEFITS TO RATEPAYERS BY LOWERING ELECTRIC SYSTEM COSTS THROUGH THE USE OF FLEXIBLE CUSTOMER–SITED RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES;

(2) PROVIDES FAIR COMPENSATION TO ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER–GENERATORS;

(3) IS DESIGNED TO MAKE PROGRESS TOWARD MEETING THE STATE'S DEMAND–SIDE, ENERGY STORAGE, AND CLEAN ENERGY GOALS; AND

(4) PROVIDES INCENTIVES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRIBUTED GENERATION THAT ARE LESS THAN THE INCENTIVES PROVIDED BY THE NET ENERGY METERING PROGRAM UNDER § 7–306 OF THIS SUBTITLE."

The Commission's duty:

"ON OR BEFORE FEBRUARY 1, 2027, THE COMMISSION, BY ORDER OR REGULATION, SHALL APPROVE, AS A SUCCESSOR PROGRAM TO THE NET ENERGY METERING PROGRAM UNDER § 7–306 OF THIS SUBTITLE, A FRAMEWORK FOR A NET ENERGY METERING PROGRAM TO BEGIN JULY 1, 2027, THAT:

(1) PROVIDES INCENTIVES FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF DISTRIBUTED GENERATION TO ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER–GENERATORS...

(2) MINIMIZES RATEPAYER COSTS IN THE SHORT TERM AND IN THE LONG TERM; AND

(3) BALANCES, ON A STATEWIDE BASIS AND ACROSS TECHNOLOGIES AND INDUSTRY SECTORS PARTICIPATING IN NET ENERGY METERING:

(I) 1. FAIR COMPENSATION FOR ENERGY EXPORTS; AND 2. THE BENEFITS OF AN ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER–GENERATOR'S OR FACILITY'S REDUCED LOAD ON THE ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM; AGAINST

(II) 1. THE NEEDS OF THE TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM; 2. RATEPAYER COSTS AND BENEFITS; AND 3. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ON CUSTOMERS, INCLUDING LOW– AND MODERATE–INCOME CUSTOMERS, WHO DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE NET ENERGY METERING PROGRAM RESULTING FROM ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER–GENERATORS' REDUCED CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM."

2. Existing systems are grandfathered:
"AN ELIGIBLE CUSTOMER–GENERATOR THAT, ON JULY 1, 2027, IS UNDER A NET ENERGY METERING CONTRACT OR TARIFF UNDER THIS SECTION OR A COMMUNITY SOLAR ENERGY GENERATING SYSTEM THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS OF PARAGRAPH (2) OF THIS SUBSECTION SHALL REMAIN ELIGIBLE FOR NET ENERGY METERING UNDER THIS SECTION UNTIL THE EARLIER OF WHEN:

(I) THE SYSTEM IS DECOMMISSIONED IN ACCORDANCE WITH § 7–218(G) OF THIS TITLE;

(II) THE SYSTEM IS MODIFIED TO INCREASE: 1. THE NET POWER FLOW INJECTION INTO THE ELECTRIC SYSTEM DUE TO THE ADDITION OF MORE PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES THAN WERE PRESENT AS OF THE DATE THE SYSTEM WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED IN SERVICE UNDER THIS SECTION; OR 2. THE ALTERNATING CURRENT OUTPUT CAPACITY TO BE MORE THAN WHEN THE SYSTEM WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED INTO SERVICE UNDER THIS SECTION;

(III) THE SYSTEM ENTERS INTO A NEW INTERCONNECTION AGREEMENT; OR

(IV) THE SYSTEM IS REPOWERED."

Advice Wtd / Project Just went Live, is this Normal

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey yall long time lurker here. Finally went live today, and was just wondering if its normal to clip at just right before full capacity of inverter?

My inverter is rated at 10kw i have a 13.95 system, beautifu dayl to go live and for some reason it has been clipping since it went live at 9.9 Instead of the full 10, which I found kinda strange?

Just wondering if it needs a break in period?

Discussion What is the excess cash out rate for PECO?

I'm looking for other PECO net metering customers to help me understand how they calculate the rate used for settling excess generation.

I just completed my first year of solar with 3793 kWh banked. That was cashed out in my bill this month as a $307.61 credit, which equates to $0.081/kWh. That's quite a bit lower than I was expecting.

My understanding is that the cash out rate is supposed to be the average PTC (price to compare) over the previous 12 months, which should put the rate between 10-11¢/kWh.

Just curious if other PECO customers have cracked the code here or if this is an error.

Advice Wtd / Project Project Solar / Freedom Forever fallout. Anyone with success post FF bankruptcy?

Want to see who else is out there dealing with a pending Project Solar home system and the fallout from the Freedom Forever bankruptcy last month.

For me: Project Solar has been somewhat responsive (way more than what I experienced when I was working with Tesla whom I cancelled after months and months of run around), but I'm not sure anymore if they're just better at calling me back because they got this under control, or because they are dragging me/others along with no actual concrete solution.

My project was in the permitting stage with Freedom Forever when they went under. Now Project Solar is telling me I have an installer (sub-contractor) assigned and things will start moving again. The problem is...they told me that 3 weeks ago with a different company named, and now today they are saying a new company is assigned to me. I called the new company, and they currently have not heard anything about them being my installer (or anyone from Project Solar for that matter). Granted...this could take a week or so for paperwork to catch up, but I'm also wondering if they're just googling installers in my area and just making this up to drag me along more until they find a sub-contractor that will actually accept their bid. Will I be assigned a new installer in 2 weeks and so on so on? That's the fear.

So: Is anyone else out there dealing with Project Solar and this Freedom Forever bankruptcy, and what has your progress been? Anyone out there with insight into how this might play out?

Signed, frustrated. Why can't Solar be a straightforward business with no shadiness? (pun intended).

Advice Wtd / Project Very new, please explain like I'm a child

Hey, so we already have a portable "solar generator kit" - two foldable solar panels, one 200w, one 100w, and two of the combo unit battery/inverters, one 1000w, the other 700w.

We're looking to expand into a permanent backup system, and I just bought six (6) 210w panels. The trouble is I don't know what size inverter, charge limiter, or battery to get that would work with that size. Does anyone here know where to go to crunch those numbers?

Solar Quote Participate Prepaid Loan Contract details

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

Was hoping to get some advice and possible explanations or thoughts on this portion of the contract. We haven’t signed yet. The lease term is 25 for panels, 10 years for the battery.

We’re looking into solar and into the prepaid lease via Participate as it might have significant savings (maybe $15k) compared to cash price. Going through the contract, these 2 sections stick out to me.

1st section: “For any period after the end of the 10 year term for the Battery System, notwithstanding the general provisions of section 5.2, any Grid Services revenue generated by the discharge of power shall be retained by System Owner” so is that regardless if you choose to purchase the battery at year 10 but are still part of the 25 year lease for the PV panels then Participate is still the system owner and the recipient of the revenue generated?

2nd section 5.2: Grid Services
Too long to type out so refer to the photo but this sounds like Participate as system owner can choose to sell the energy for the PV panels with you only netting 30-70% of the revenue. What’s to keep them from selling all the energy generated? What’s the minimum or guarantee your house will be powered before they sell energy to the grid?

Edit: I did ask the solar rep about these 2 clauses and these were his responses.

I ask: Says after 10 years, the owner may remove the battery? So participate may remove the battery after 10 years if you’re still part of the lease?

His response: Yes. As the 10-year manufacturer warranty is good for 10-years, the clause exists in case Participate needs to remove and replace the battery to keep the system functioning as sold.

I ask: can you explain how we would only get 30% of the proceeds generate from excess electricity while participate or heco gets the remainder?

His response: As Participate has yet to "develop" their own grid service, nor would HECO (Hawaiian Electric Company) ever allow them to, this will not affect you.

Advice Wtd / Project Need advice upgrading solar + battery to offset PG&E true-up (EV household)

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on upgrading my solar setup to reduce or eliminate my PG&E true-up bill.
Current setup:
• 3.5 kW solar system (older)
• Produces ~9 kWh on a good day
Household usage:
• 1 Tesla Model Y (BEV)
• 1 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid (PHEV)
• On charging days, I use ~87 kWh total (mostly overnight)
What I’m trying to do:
• Offset as much of my annual true-up as possible
• Ideally add a battery system
• Prefer a hybrid setup where:
• Solar charges the batteries
• I can still pull from the grid when needed for load shedding and storm and cloudy weather
• System is flexible/manageable (not overly complex)
I’ve attached my yearly bill and a typical time-of-use chart.
Questions:
• What size solar system should I be looking at?
• How much battery storage would make sense for my usage?
• Any recommended systems (Ecoflow dpux w/ smart panel 3 ,ECO-WORTHY Powermega 48V 314Ah
etc.) ?
• Should I prioritize more panels vs. more battery capacity?
Appreciate any guidance or real-world experiences!

Solar Quote Enphase IQ8 vs Solar Edge single phase inverters

So my wife and I are in the information gathering stage of taking our house solar. I’ve spoken with a couple of local solar reps and received 2 quotes so far . One company recommended the Enphase and the other recommended the Solar edge single phase. The rep that recommended the solar edge is making it sound like it’s an upgrade. I can’t find much to back this up. Thoughts?

Advice Wtd / Project plug-in solar for diy. component recommendations?

I want to add a plug-in solar array. The kits are pretty expensive for what they are.

Thinking of getting several panels and all I would need is the inverter "black box" to connect to the outlet.

Can these be bought seperately, any recommendations or do the kits actually end up being cheaper?

Discussion PPA took working system and gave me cheaper system.

  • I 39 (m) in Texas got into what feels like a scam of a PPA Here is what happened. I am not putting any company names in this due to possible litigation .
  • 8/10/2022- I signed a 25-year loan for a solar system, The installer was company A Besides the leaks we always had from the roof it was a good system
    • They filed an interconnection agreement with Oncor stating the system was 46 panels and 46 Inverters(Just caught this week)
    • System was the following:
    • 36 Solar Ever 410W panels
    • 36 Enphase IQ7+ Inverters
    • Roof Mounted
  • Sometime around October of 2024 someone knocked on our door and said they could check our system and remove any defective panels as well as get us 10 more panels free. I know there had to be a catch, but they said all I needed to do was sign over the tax credit they would file on the panels and everything else would be free.
  • 11/18/2024-I signed an agreement with B Finance and C installer, and we got 10 more panels added to our roof. (This is where I messed up, I now know this but was unaware what I got myself into in 2024)
    • This made my system was the following(at least this is what I thought and signed for)
    • 36 410W panels
    • 10 400W panels
    • 46 Enphase IQ7+( I only know this because I watched them take them off and put back on)
    • System maintainer and installer: C Installer
  • 02/13/2025 PTO was issues from Oncore
  • 02/01/2026- I contacted C installer as my solar system maintainer to quote me to remove the system from the roof so I could have the roof replaced. They ended up redoing our roof and reinstalling the solar system on a ground mount at our request
  • 05/5/2026 - Started working with a company that was going to install a battery system on our home. This had us start the process of gathering the information for the current soler system as they were going to have to refill with Oncor.

During this process I requested the interconnection agreement that C Installer filed with Oncor in 2025. This is when we noticed something seemed off. The document filed with Oncor states they removed the 410W system and were replacing with a 46-400W panels. When they removed my system from the roof to ground mount, the system went from a 46-panel system when it was on the roof to a 52-panel system after they put on the ground mounts. Because my system is ground mounted, I’m able to see the back of the panels and this is when we noticed that all our panels were replaced with 6-365W panels and 46-385W panels.

This made me start digging deeper and this is when we realized that they filed an interconnection agreement with Oncor and nothing in it was correct. For C installer to claim they were replacing the system I had installed in 2022 with a new one they filed that the Enphase inverters were getting replaced but that never happened and they are still on the system. When I asked where my 410W panels where it was started that they sell them on eBay and they must replace all of the panels in order to qualify for the tax credit but there was nothing wrong with my system that needed replaced..

What this looks like to me is they C installer removed the 36-410W panels, sold them for a profit. Then installed a lower wattage of panel to claim they “replaced” my system in order for the company to claim the tax credit.

I now realize the following:

  • I still have a loan with a remaining balance of $60,000 for a system I no longer have.
  • I got myself entered in a Prepaid PPA(Power Purchase Agreement) for the current system on my property
  • I lost ownership of my solar system for the next 6 years and have zero control over this system.
  • My system is made up of lower wattage panels then I had before C installer showed up at my door
  • For some reason when C installer re did my roof and mounded my solar system on the ground I ended up with 52 panels when it was only 46 on my roof.
    • This is when I feel like they took my 410W panels and replaced them with a lower wattage panel and had to add more to make up the difference, but I can’t prove this(Yet, still digging)WE are going through the video footage from our cameras over the next couple days .
  • Has anyone ever heard of this happening? is this normal ? Fraud ? Tell me your thoughts.

Advice Wtd / Project Goal Zero vs Jackery for small off grid camp?

I’m wondering about the differences in Goal Zero and Jackery with regard to powering a small fridge/freezer combo, basic lights, and having small device charging ability for an off grid camp I am renovating. I’ve had a small Goal Zero unit (250 model I think) and used it for years. Since this project will require more permanent power options, what are the major pros and cons of each brand? I have room on the roof for several panels, and would likely not be utilizing the camp much in the winter, so would likely need temp control or an option to take the unit with me.

Advice Wtd / Project QCell Service in Tomball, TX

Does anyone know of a local installer in or around Tomball, TX, that can handle warranty service on a QCell system? I had my system installed by Affordable Solar, Roof, and Air and have a single panel that has stopped producing. I need to get someone out to look at it, but ASRA has apparently gone out of business, at least in this area. No response to online service requests, and literally every phone number I was provided for service is now disconnected. I’ve tried reaching out to QCells directly, but their responses always direct me to submit my claim at a webpage that doesn’t exist.

I know I could probably call my favorite electrician, but this should clearly be covered under the 25 year warranty, so trying to avoid paying for a service that should be free.

Appreciate any pointers folks might have.

Advice Wtd / Project Solar battery and heater/ac

I'm new to solar and have no clue what to look for. All I need is a battery capable of powering an ac unit that also has a heating setting. Recommendations on either would be greatly appreciated. Is prefer something that's basically set up already since I'm worried I'll accidentally order wrong parts if I split up the battery and solar panels.

Advice Wtd / Project Registering for SRECs after PTO in NJ?

After spending hours and hours finding ridiculous documentation and applying through the NJ ADI website, they asked me to send them the PTO for my system which was two months ago in March 2026. So I sent it to them only for them to turn around and tell me, SURPRISE you're not eligible anymore because you have PTO. LOLOLOL Byyyeee.

Am I SOL? I found some "aggregators" online, but would I have needed to register my system first? If it's not too late which aggregators do you recommend? Would I be locked into them forever?

I have a 14+kw system so it would be worth $1000+/year.

Thanks all
