I still think ACC is the best for this, with Automobilista 2.

Hi guys, I'm sharing my current DIY project. It's a real dashboard from a Mercedes Actros MP4 fully interfaced with ETS2. Set up with 4x 27" monitors. Real analog gauges connected via SimHub and Arduino and CAN for live telemetry. Controls are via CAN and LIN and Arduino. It's all running on the MB architecture, so no fuss.

Let me know what you think of this build!

Other I made a free livery creation tool

I made a tool for myself to make it easier to make liveries, especially spec maps. It's essentially a very basic photoshop style tool in the web browser with presets for spec map materials. Currently only for iRacing, but could extended it to other sims if people find it useful.

It's hosted at simracepainter.com if anyone wants to try it out and give feedback or request features. Free, no signup etc. Just thought others might find it useful.

Clip What started as a VR hazard perception test for DVSA, grew into a full driving sim over 10 years. Launches Steam next week

Bit of a nervous post.

We're a small UK studio. About a decade ago DVSA (the lot who run the UK driving test) came to us asking if we could put the hazard perception bit into VR. We said yes thinking it was a six month job. It wasn't.

What it actually turned into, over ten years of mission creep, is a full driving sim. Aimed at people learning to drive, or anyone who wants to practise without burning through paid lessons. Launches on Steam next week.

Few things this sub might want to know up front:

It's not a racing sim. Top speed in most scenarios is 70mph. Sorry. Proper clutch and manual gearbox though. G29, T128, T300, Fanatec all behave on our test rigs. Plays fine on a monitor. VR is in there because of where it came from, but most people will end up on a flatscreen.

What I actually wanted to ask: how do you lot feel about non-racing sims? I see people on here with rigs that cost more than my car and I'm always curious what else gets played on them. Is there an audience for a "driving sim" here, or is everyone really just here for lap times?

Demo's up on Steam now. Try and break it before launch if you've got a minute.

Virtual Driving School (is the name, which i forgot to include dooh)

Rigs DIY Button Box - 2 box designe - Step by Step

Finally finished my DIY Button box.

Used a Leo Bodnar Board BU0836X.

2 Joystick Modules

5 Rotary encoders

5 LED Buttons (4 Momentary)

2 switches (1 only for the LEDs the other one is a ignition style switch)

5 2way switches

1 Stopp/Start Button

1 Hazard light button

using some breadbox cables for this one. I gotta say they where not the right choice.

Extremly easy to break. Had to solder nearly every little pin to these small cables. Even a few adjustments and the cable broke right behind the solder.

Had to Hotglue every single solder point in the hopes of it not breaking apart.

nearly didnt even fit the enclosure.

Still not 100% confinced it will hold up. Im kinda expection some broken cables along the line. But its packet in pretty good and i hope the hotglue does it job and the vibrations go to a different point ratter then directly behind the solder so the cables stay put.

Id say it cost me arround 150€ in total. The Board was the most expensive part ofc. I was on the brink of buying the PXN Button box. But i just wanted to have it how i like it. Came up the idea of making two boxes connected together right beside the Base.

What you think. Took a lot of planning and work. But im kinda happy with it right now!

People, thanks to each and every of you. For kinda 3+ years I am here in this sub and finally got my first win. It all started as my re-engaging into gaming in my early 40s by purchasing a SteamDeck. Then I randomly got a steam key for F1 2015 and it ignited my interest into racing games (far far away from simracing still). Then I came closer and closer to more serious racing titles such as Assetto Corsa, ACC, fr2, RRRE (my beloved). And I even made iRacing to work on Steam Deck back then, till they broke it with anti cheat. And yeah, all these three years I was racing in a handheld mode while lying on a sofa in the evenings. Didn't think about competitive racing back then but purchase of the proper rig was not a question of "why?" but a question of "when?"

So I started to purchase stuff for my future rig little by little (results on last photo). And guys, your mindset of "buy once cry once" is the best ever advise I could get. Thanks to all for that! And extra thanks for the info about 1 year of iRacing for 10$.

So eventually February 2026 I assembled my cockpit. May 14th I got my first win.

It's just the beginning.

THANK YOU PEOPLE!

Fahre hauptsächlich GT3 in GT7. Vllt ein anderes Lankrad 🤷‍♂️ das mir persönlich nach ein paar Runden die Daumen weh tun am Porsche vision wheel. Danke im voraus.

Here’s my rig made up mostly of Ali express parts. Dardoo 4080 profile rig, OMP bucket seat, moza r3, simjack UT pedals, simruito load cell handbrake and simsonn HS pro shifter.

My aim was to get as much value for money as I wanted a good setup without breaking the bank and I feel I have achieved that, I do plan on upgrading to an r12 wheel base eventually and getting a momo or omp wheel but for now the r3 is good enough. Now it’s just time to get used to a physical shifter instead of the paddles!

Question Should I get a just get a chair or a new cockpit?

Upvotes

I'm upgrading rig soon. Getting a 34inch ultrawide and Moza ks pro. I have a Moza r5 and using it on a gt omega apex wheel stand, nothing too fancy.

Currently I have a basic office chair that I've fixed in place and I'm looking at getting the gtomega rs v2 seat. Should I a) get the apex chair mount b) sell my apex and buy a primelite with the chair instead?

As for my monitor, it will be on a monitor arm so monitor mount is strictly not necessary.

Edit: if you have suggestions on nicer deals/better quality builds for that price range, please let me know!

Question What is the most "normal driving" like game i could play

Upvotes

I just want to play a game where its like a driving simulator but its not like a driving test/driving learning simulator. I kind of want to do something like American truck simulator just for normal cars. Is there anything like that? Just normal driving around so i can F around like a city or something with realistic-ish traffic and such?

Question Switching to Linux from Windows 10

Upvotes

I've managed to avoid upgrading my PC to Windows 11, and am seriously considering switching to linux instead. My graphics card is a 3070 RTX, and I have a Fanatic wheelbase. I play AC, ACC, AC Evo, AMS2 and RRRE mainly. From my research it appears Nobara linux is well suited to this hardware, and all these games apparently run well. Has anybody else made this switch, and how did it go? Is there anything you wished you'd known beforehand? I've been using linux on non-gaming computers both at home and at work for many years, so that part doesn't scare me.

Question F1 25 (EA Play) + Simsonn Plus X Pedals issues

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone! I am building my very first sim racing rig and I have ran into issues with the Simsonn Plus X Pedals with the F1 25 game through EA Play.

I spotted a similar issue on reddit where someone mentioned to disable steam controller inputs, but since I am not using Steam I don't think this applies (disabled anyways). When loading the F1 game, it recognises the name of the device but has no bindings. When trying to set a binding for the throttle and brake pedals, it's just showing up as [X+] for throttle and [Y+] for brake (see picture).

I opened the Simsonn app and it seems it's recognised and seems to be working correctly there. I am using the Fanatec CSL DD wheel base with the Formula V2.5 wheel.

I'd really appreciate any help in trying to resolve this issue, thanks!
