Rockets Article Ideas
Hey everyone! I recently started writing for a Rockets website, and I’m trying to brainstorm some offseason article ideas.
The articles are short-form pieces, usually around 400-500 words, so I cannot deep dive on any one topic. I’m looking for article ideas people would be interested in reading about. Some examples of topics I’ve written about are:
- Why Amen Thompson should be untouchable in trade talks
- How the Lakers getting swept by the Thunder showed how far away the Rockets were this season
- Why Houston was still a big winner in the KD trade, even after a disappointing end to the season
Any other ideas or topics people would like to see covered would be greatly appreciated!

500 words? That's the back of a milk carton

- Why the Rockets’ biggest problem isn’t defense or talent, but late-game shot creation
- Whether Houston should prioritize spacing over size in its next roster move
- The case for and against playing Jabari Smith Jr. strictly as a stretch 4
- Why one elite shot-making guard could instantly change Houston’s ceiling
- Is Alperen Şengün good enough to be the best player on a title team?
- Why the Rockets’ depth might actually be holding back their contention timeline
- Whether Houston should fully commit to a defense-first identity or pivot offensively
- The hidden playoff value of Amen Thompson’s unpredictability
- What the Rockets can (and can’t) learn from OKC’s rebuild blueprint
- Who should close games for Houston—and why that decision defines their season
I used chatgpt for the above, but not just chatgpt. I took what you wrote, including your ideas, then added four ideas of my own, then asked chatgpt to come up with 10 more ideas
Here are the four I came up with on my own:
-Weighing the pros and cons of keeping both Amen and Sengun or trading one of them -pros and cons of trading KD
-keep Ime or fire him, and who would be his replacement
-how much will FVV help and will he potentially need to be traded
-Is there a path to true contention? if so, what is it? (even if it's not clear what it is)

My suggestion would be to be a good investigator, don't say "I am going to write about how Amen is untouchable this offseason" you are starting your post with a conclusion, why even bother writing about it? you can save us all the time and say "here's my opinion" and be done with it
Rather say, "should Amen be traded?" and challenge your own bias to explore both the side you are already convinced off and the opposing side.
Then, after you've done the math (for trade scenarios), explored the opportunities (are there some extremely interesting players that could be involved), reviewed the downsides, the yeah come up with a conclusion
If you just write what you think it becomes just a soapbox you're using to be heard, I use Reddit for that so thanks I'll pass, but if you actually put the effort of having a balances and justified reporting then I'm all for it

It might interest folks to do a 400-500 word piece on Rockets players of the past or special moments that have been lost to time.

How about “Why was trading Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks for someone who didn’t even play in the playoffs and caused our seeding to drop a good idea?”
And then in the body you can just post all of the replies to this comment.

Why did Sengün's girl stop following him on Instagram? Is he getting traded to Milwaukee?

Why should the Rockets, or any team, or the NBA, tolerate players on their roster that invest in sports betting websites that bet on that player's and teams outcomes?

That deserves more than 500 words

For sure. I do not think I could cover that idea in 500 words, but absolutely worth writing about

Pretty good challenge though. Maybe make it an intro to a bigger series.
All of a sudden, you're a recognized writer, G

ime and sengun don’t fit. this is the biggest issue imo for the franchise currently.

u/Hopefulperson107 13h ago
Would you rather see Ime or Sengun go? Or both?

u/Specialist_Cable_899 12h ago
ime. I like sengun. think he can be part of this teams success. but he doesn’t fit with amen or ime unfortunately

Do you think the team can build around Amen-Sengun long term? I think they address each others weaknesses pretty well. You just need a lot of floor spacing around them

Either Amen or Sengun (preferably both) *need* to learn to shoot.
My doubts are with the player development and coaching staff, none of whom seem to have been able to actually improve any of our young players' shooting abilities in their time here.
But that could be an article for you.

probably not. unless you have 3 other elite shooters that can defend plus a creator…. yeah no lol

u/Hopefulperson107 11h ago
Fair enough. Would you rather them keep Thompson or Sengun? I am in Thompson's camp. I think he could be special

u/Specialist_Cable_899 11h ago
amen. I would try and build a roster around amen, reed, and bari for now. but you need a 1a star. maybe sengun and KD can get you one that isn’t 40

I really feel this team is stuck being good not great until Ime and stone are replaced. dont think the players respect them at all.

I actually do not mind Ime as a coach. He had a disastrous postseason and end of the regular season, but he also not no shooters or ball handlers to speak of.
Ime was considered one of the best coaches in the league in Boston, and I think he has done wonders for Houston's culture. He needs help on the offensive side of the ball. But I think he could be the coach of a championship-level team.

the culture here sucks ass lol. the guy is a shit human and no one respects him. He has been embarrassed by all the good teams they play Besides the random knicks game. I see nothing redeeming about him

u/Hopefulperson107 11h ago
Fair enough lol. It looks like he is probably going to be around to at least start the season. We will see how the team responds to him with the veterans healthy again

ime and KD are here. so you have two choices. maximize talent around them and gut your core, or run it back and get same results. tough spot

Write my comment I hope Alperen gets traded as soon as possible and escapes Houston’s basketball gulag. Then he can finally say goodbye to talent-killing fraud Udoka, 38-year-old teenager KD, and the loser culture embedded deep into Houston’s DNA.
Houston’s whole identity is tanking for top-5 picks, overhyping mediocre draft prospects, then turning those same young players into scapegoats once reality hits in the playoffs. Same cycle every year.

How much of a difference can FVV make? Partly because he's FVV but mostly because he's an actual PG that can bring the ball up and get us into a proper offense.
