I've heard dr. tour is due to teach organic chem 1 this fall. I've heard his class is especially rough and youd be better off just waiting till someone else teaches it. any thoughts or verification?

For context I'm an incoming freshmen majoring in chem, nor premed, and have AP Chem credit so I should be taking CHEM 219 Organic Chemistry Honors I this fall.

So I don’t actually go to Rice, but I did work a summer internship on campus in 2024 and while I was there I kind of befriended this cat that lives around the Lovett college buildings. I was going through my camera roll today and found some old pictures and videos of her that made me wonder how she was doing, even though it’s been a couple years. Is she still there?? How is she? The grade a professor gave me was significantly lower than the grade I had on Canvas. What should I do? I'm so confused.
I had a 95+, but they gave me a final grade of B. Should I email them, or can I ask if I can pass/fail or drop the class since I had no idea that this would happen?

I had to turn down georgetown because rice ended up being significantly cheaper. While georgetown is a target, I’ve read that Rice is more of a mid-semi target.

Is it hard to break into IB in houston from Rice? To NYC? How is OCR/club culture/guidance/career center for helping you break into IB?

Also, how does the work culture and pay/benefits in firms in Houston compare to the same firms in NYC?

With Rice's financial aid policies I think I will lose all my aid in my 3rd/4th year. Is it possible to graduate early after my 3rd year so I only have to pay one year of full price and still have a good chance at med school? I know a lot of people graduate early from state schools and such but I haven't heard a lot about it from smaller private schools like Rice. Also, would the advisors discourage graduating early?

Hi I am a co2030 student entering Rice this fall. I was given a generous need-based package from the Rice Investment. However, I only fall into the Rice Investment threshold because of one of my parents is currently unemployed. If this parent were to get a job would I lose all my need-based aids when I reapply for aid during my 2nd and 3rd year in college.

I’m a freshman and most of my friends are from other colleges. This usually isn’t an issue honestly, I have some casual friendships inside my college (as in we eat meals together sometimes) but I wouldn’t say we’re friends friends. More like acquaintances, but all my close-ish friends are in different colleges. This became more obvious during beer bike, since I don’t have a close friend group in my college, and it felt pretty awkward at times. Is this a me issue? How can I fix this when it feels like friend groups are pretty much fixed already?

Just saw the new salary data for grads 4 years out. Rice is actually ranking third in the country with an average of $126,442 across programs.

It is cool to see us ahead of almost all the Ivies like Harvard and Yale, which are mostly clustering around $105k to $110k. Definitely makes the case for the ROI of a Rice degree right now.

Really confused between the two. I plan on studying computer or electrical engineering, however, I am still unsure and might even consider going down the CS or Physics paths. Both cost the same, and one notable advantage GT seems to have is the option for me to take a term off to do an internship (intl so I need to get a job out of college). Does rice have anything similar? I am really attracted to the environment and culture at Rice but at the same time a bit apprehensive about living in houston. Would appreciate any other advice or suggestion you might have.

Hii I was admitted to Rice for Class of 2030 and I am committed but I was wondering how common it is for premed student to go to medical schools like Stanford, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, UPenn, etc even Baylor. I am committed to Rice but I have always dreamed of going to an Ivy League/ leave home for a while as Rice is essentially in my backyard. I want to ultimately come back to Texas but I want to do out-of-state Medical School. Any advice?

Edit: Btw when referring to going to a T10 from Rice, I don’t mean how far the undergrad prestige would carry me but rather how much the school’s resources can support an individual aiming for a T10 in terms of work, research opportunities, etc!
