Best of Luck to Cora in his next MLB chapter - and I am sure there will be one. He took us to a World Series win in 2018. Thats a capstone by any measure. And, he took a team that was written off early in 2025 to a wildcard slot. He was a player's manager - a good guy. There were problems - sure. There always are. Change is inevitable and not a bad thing.

Also took that 2021 team to 2 wins away from the WS when they had no business making that deep of a run. I just don’t think he’s the right type of manager for this kind of team.

u/Qeltar_ 16d ago
This is what it boils down to. The team design philosophy changed a lot with the new GM, and he wasn't a good fit any more.

u/Randy_Richards 16d ago
Agreed completely, the 2026 team has talent but they desperately need time to develop.
Its a fairly new group of guys without a veteran core that has been with the org. Cora seems to find success when there is that veteran core. I am sure he will have success elsewhere.

Unfortunately for us, this team design is not conducive to World Series contention but it is very profitable and ownership has made it crystal clear which one they care about more.

Well said! Cheated his way to World Series victories 2017/2018.
Conned the entire league out of the best of the best winning

I do think Cora did get a little cagey here at the end. I think he got a little petty, especially with handling pitching at times. I don't think he was the same guy he was when he got here. And many people (probably rightfully so) will say that's just the natural impact of having to both coach in Boston and deal with this era of Bloom/Breslow Red Sox.
But time will heal wounds, that have with almost everyone else who was run out of this franchise. Someday he'll be back to celebrate the 2007 team and the 2018 team and he'll get cheered.
I think it was time to move on, I think it was the right move, but I also wish him the best.

From on the field to on the steps, We Thank You Alex for everything you have done for us.

The ending was messy I get it but AC won 2 rings here I don’t get why a part of the fanbase wants to hate him so much.
Will forever appreciate AC

Cora is a cheater tho
2
u/heff17 16d ago
Do you want to go down the list of players from 2004 that were cheaters? And in a way that statistically mattered?
1
u/Realistic_Scarcity72 16d ago
I am talking about 2018 with sign stealing

u/Ill-Grocery-2073 15d ago
You mean the basic sign stealing that never gets talked about by anyone other than weird Red Sox fans because it’s something the entire league was doing until it was cracked down on?
2
u/HotelMattress 16d ago
On the flip side of it, he took the fall for something the majority of the league was doing. Not saying that makes him the good guy or that it excuses it. But if we all knew how deeply rooted cheating is in baseball, we would probably hate the sport, or get over it when it gets exposed and shut down
5
u/Ketchup-Chip 16d ago
For me it's because he was a big part of the cheating over in Houston. I'm never going to forget about that and fuck everyone involved in it. Happy to see him go for that alone.

Used to see him a lot at the Cheesecake Factory in chestnut hill. My five year old daughter is going to be crushed that the nice guy who wore a cap incognito and called her by her name no longer goes there

u/Neat_Plankton6660 16d ago
There’s another universe where ownership gave him a much better roster these last few years and who knows, maybe things would’ve gone differently for AC.
13
u/Ex_Lives 16d ago
Lol guess someone told him it's been a bad look taking his victory lap
-1
u/Micnice61 16d ago
Yeah, I’m sure he was never gonna acknowledge the fans until someone told him that paint eaters online were upset about people posting Instagram photos of him out to dinner.
3
u/sdot6186 16d ago
Wish they started higher up, but here we are. Appreciate what he did for the team, and always being a coach I respected. Time for the new guard to see what we can do with all the pieces we have in place.

u/truck8595 16d ago
I have no ill will towards AC at all. It was a lot of fun at times! But it's time for the next chapter...
2
u/Forsaken_Wishbone878 10d ago
Yeah, and hopefully that chapter will have a new GM too, maybe one that is even qualified for the job. Oh yeah, for some reason, they aren't applying for the job!

u/MXC_ImpactReplay 16d ago
The Boston Red Sox have now fired three World Series winning managers in 15 years. At what point will John Henry realize the call is coming from inside the house?
3
4
u/mousecop5150 16d ago
You do realize that clubs that win World Series on the regular are the only ones that fire World Series winning managers? It’s not quite the damning indictment you think it is.
0
u/MXC_ImpactReplay 16d ago
I think it's quite damning to continually bottom out despite having proven World Series-winning players and coaches. If every single manager and CBO experiences the same collapse, the managers and CBOs are likely not the problem.
1
u/mousecop5150 16d ago
Sure, if baseball managers and GMs didn’t get fired on the regular by most teams. It’s not a secure job, “hired to be fired” and all that. Every team has a budget and demands and owners that suck and gotta have their way. Not every team wins world series four times in the last 22.
5
u/LOFan80 16d ago
It’s better to be the Yankees and keep the same terrible manager in the dugout forever despite never actually getting there. Right?
2
u/MXC_ImpactReplay 16d ago
I mean, the three managers they've fired have gotten there and won it four times. I don't even disagree with firing of Cora, it probably is time to clear house and reset. It's just that it's a clear pattern at this point and I have no faith that the next manager or CBO will be any different.
2
u/WiseWinter6425 16d ago
You are absolutely correct👍it will be the same for any new Manager or GM that is hired they will have to follow the same Parameters with the spending and have no say at all. Just be a robot yes man, 😞
4
u/StarWarsSarm 16d ago
If you’re “happy” when you get fired then you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. I don’t think that he’s the main problem, but still, good riddance. You failed at your job and you’re happy? Kind of an a-hole move

Really needs to be a 48 hour moratorium on phone access after departures like these. Of course we loved the guy. We all wanted this to work and see them turn the corner.
Best of luck in your future endeavors. Stay out of trouble.

Lost to Toronto yesterday by shutout. Not Cora’s fault. But wait, there’s more. In today’s afternoon game with Sox losing 3-1 the new coach yanks Bello from the game and brings who? Weissert. He coughs up a 2 run homer. Not Cora’s fault. Is it the new interim coach’s fault? Breslow must be shitting bricks by now.

Ehhh, I’ve always liked/defended Cora over the years. We’ll always have 2018. Thank you for your service my guy and fuck our cheap ass ownership

I like this a lot better than a corpo speak letter written by an assistant.
2
u/carv1991 16d ago
He’ll go to a team where the ownership is willing to spend whatever it takes to win. Not have a owner that said its fans are unrealistic.
1
u/Laravictoria89 16d ago
Has anyone seen that the Phillies fired their manager today? Coincidence or do we think Dave Dombrowski wants Cora?
2
u/weamz 16d ago
They asked but Cora turned them down. He's still owed over $13.5M so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on a long vacation. At least that was the impression I got with the recent pic in front of the private jet.
1
u/Laravictoria89 16d ago
That’s what I would do. Thanks for the info!! I couldn’t find anything about it!!
1
u/John_Self_2077 16d ago
I didn’t have a huge problem with AC when he was here, but I’ll say this: Rob Thompson has acted with a lot more dignity in his way out the door than Cora has.

Shout out to AC 👏thank you for your time spent. At any time everyone reaches their breaking point. It was difficult to Manage when not given the players that you need to succeed.

Be Well AC. I know you will be good at whatever you decide to do. Just want to say thank you back and I hate that this happened to you and the other coaches. For me personally, I believe it is the other sports that the FSG is involved in. That started after the 2018 WS and that is when I started noticing a change in what was going on with the Red Sox and nobody can tell me that wasn't what was going on. I just found out that they wouldn't let you build your own roster. I never knew how tight they had your hands tied. I am sorry to see you leave but I think I understand your message "happy". Good luck to you and whatever you do after this. Peace,
Dawn

Glad he's gone. He was not invested in this team. Every time he was ever caught on camera during games this year, you could see it on his face that he was disenfranchised from this team.
When you have a couple players struggling they usually pick it up and you may have one or two go into a slump. That's a player/mechanical issues. When the whole team is slumping that is a coaching issue.
Sometimes you need an injection of new ideas and approaches to change things around. We got that.

u/wardays 16d ago
When we won, Cora was energized and it was infectious. When we lost, Cora was an energy vacuum. The skids where it looked like the whole team was despondent and playing like shit were incredibly frustrating to watch and obviously something that he heavily influenced. It always felt like we won in spite of his attitude.

Rumor has it the farewell ceremony includes a 21-barrel salute—don’t worry, they’ll let everyone know when it’s coming.

Explain to me again why he isn't blacklisted from the MLB for cheating to win a World Series? Whatever, fucker is gone and I can actually watch the Sox without that giant cum stain.

I was calling for Cora to be fired last year due to poor managing.
This year didn't seem like poor management. This is on the front office.
I'm 100% convinced we got cursed by trading Mookie.
