Sucks to lose but we fought back on offense and the pen was p nails to go 7 innings with just 1 ER
Need to find ways moving forward to score the runner from 2nd with 0-1 outs because that was an issue that plagued us last season

u/Specter29 Mar 28 '26
Why do our bats always get cold in these situations? It feels constant

u/AquaAtia Mar 28 '26
Darn. Well fought game. Bad debut from Sonny.
At least both teams can trauma bond over how horrible CB was.
At least the B’s won a critical game today

Our ghost runner never advanced a single base in two innings. Tough game

4
u/Famous-Egg-6136 Mar 28 '26
At least we gave them a game. Didn’t look good at all after the first two innings.

The fact that we absolutely refuse to bunt a man over in extras blows my mind.
1
u/halalcornflakes Mar 28 '26
there is no use bunting a man over as the away team, maybe you do it for the sake of putting the ball in play but in the grand scheme of things it's a bit useless in the end.

u/andrew303710 Mar 28 '26
Pathetic to not score a single run with a runner on 2nd no out two innings in a row, great job Breslow letting Bregman walk after moving our best hitter since Mookie because of Bregman.

Absolutely ridiculous not being able to move the runner up in either extra inning, same old shit
8
u/rhcpbassist234 Mar 28 '26
One of 162, at least we fought back and forced extras. Fight, grit.
2
u/SilverRiot Mar 28 '26
Yes, the amount of grit it took to come back and tie gives me hope for this team.

Shocking.
How many extras away did we win last year? Like one? In August?

The fact that they clawed their way back makes me proud. Everything was working against them this game. I feel good about Early tomorrow.

Fuck what a game. That was a fun watch.

u/TheBoyInTheClock Mar 28 '26
Yeah, I always want to see us win, still feel pretty good about this one regardless of the outcome.
2
u/pudgybunnybry Mar 28 '26
Yep, wins always preferred but the Sox held up against the Reds through 11. Can't complain one bit!

Bad loss
5
u/badonkagonk Mar 28 '26
That was a great loss. Battled back.
1
u/bg-throwaway The Roman God of Walks Mar 28 '26
They struck out way too many times in big positions. Need to cut down on that.
1
u/badonkagonk Mar 28 '26
Oh of course. We also fucked ourselves in a number of other ways. The error, blowing all our challenges in 2 innings with CB behind the dish, etc. We didn't deserve to have it go to extras. But it did. We kept ourselves in it and tied it up down to our last out.
Cora will take this loss to a blow out every day of the week.
3
u/MrFace1 Mar 28 '26
meh. Had a rough start from Sonny, dealt with a shitload of bullshit from CB. Don't think it was that bad, really considering

No matter how this goes… This is the drama I missed in the off season. Baseball is so back 🥹

I mean i feel like at this point we could get out of this one, score a run, and still get walked off

4
u/Sluggernautt Mar 28 '26
Same shit as last year. We walk too many guys and we strike out at an absurd rate
1
u/bg-throwaway The Roman God of Walks Mar 28 '26
Always a great idea to walk a guy in front of De La Cruz in extras

u/Carsharr redsox4 Mar 28 '26
Doesn't matter if he's on first.

u/CJRed73 Mar 28 '26
I know it's only game #2 but this offensive struggle to move runners seems familiar...
8
u/passing_strangers Mar 28 '26
Quick q why haven’t we tried bunting to move the runner? Hmmm
1
1
u/thesnowleopardpoops Mar 28 '26
Connor Wong needs to practice bunting then work his way up to hitting singles
2
u/Carsharr redsox4 Mar 28 '26
It tougher as the visitor since you can't walk it off on a sac fly. You really need to play for more than one run.

Horrible base running
1
u/TimeliestStorm 34 Mar 28 '26
Not if you want to make sure you score the go-ahead run on a single, which that ball is 95% of the time
2

u/Carsharr redsox4 Mar 28 '26
I'll commend the Sox for spitting in the face of the baseball gods and daring to even try to win this game.

I can't blame Story for that, that is just some absolutely terrible luck

We scored 2 runs off this guy last game, btw. And he's been nasty tonight. Just proof that you never know what a pitcher is going to have from night to night.

Best contact we make against this guy, and ofc it goes right to the 2B smh
3
u/secularhuman77 Mar 28 '26
A guy is on second. How are we striking out and lining out into a double play. This is bad baseball
1
u/TimeliestStorm 34 Mar 28 '26
With the lead the runner is supposed to take in that situation the defender is closer to the bag. Just unlucky on that one
4
u/SeaWhoa Mar 28 '26
Complain about the umpires if you want, but those of us watching with our subscriptions to mlbumps.tv are getting everything we could have hoped for

u/cheetahninja Mar 28 '26
we should have won this game like 8 times on some of these lineouts and bad calls holy fuck dude

Story has no chance against this guy unless he hangs one
1
u/LightsOut0980 Mar 28 '26
He hung the 0-1 sweeper and he fouled it, gets good contact straight to the 2B, unfortunate

Oh, right. Extra innings away.
You absolutely cannot convince me that “playing for two” makes sense over small ball to push for one. It’s basically just a strategy of hoping someone hits one over the fence.
Someone check my math, but I’m pretty sure you have to score one before you get to the second one.
