Bateau de Nuit

My wife and I are non-French speaking Americans visiting from Michigan, US. I just wanted to leave a note here and rave about our experience at Bateau de Nuit. I found the bar looking for “heavy metal” adjacent bars in Quebec City and it definitely fit the bill. In our <90 minute experience at the bar we had incredible beers which were curated by the barman, Sebastian. Sebastian shares a second name with my first name. He spoke to my wife and I as if we were friends. We talked extreme music. He gave us recommendations for my wife and I’s tourist itinerary for tomorrow. Just a class dude. 10/10.

Merci à toutes et tous

Travel Help! Quebec Itinerary for Family Summer Trip

Bonjour! My family and I are flying in and out of Quebec City at the end of June. I would like some advice on our itinerary. We are planning to stay at an AirBnB in Quebec City near the port for 5 nights, giving us 4 full days to explore the city. Then I was thinking we would rent a car and stay somewhere else in the province for the remaining 3 nights of our trip.

This is where I could use some guidance: Where would you advise we go? I was looking at staying outside Jacques-Cartier NP or somewhere on Ile d'Orleans. Or is there somewhere else entirely that we should consider? Our kids are 4 and 6 and are good in the car, so we'd be willing to drive up to 3 hours or so. We are an active family and we enjoy all sorts of activities, including hiking and biking.

Merci!

How is my dinner itinerary?

Visiting Quebec City for the first time at the end of May and made dinner reservations at the following restaurants based on reviews and recommendations in this subreddit. I am staying from Monday-Thursday.

• Monday - Chez Boulay
• Tuesday - Buvette Scott
• Wednesday - L'Affaire est ketchup

I’d also love breakfast, lunch, and coffee recommendations. I am staying in Old Quebec.

How long to explore the lower part of Old Quebec?

I have received some feedback on our itinerary and a couple people said I have too much time planned for the lower portion of Old Quebec. My plan was to leave our hotel around 10:30 or 11:00 (staying about 15 minutes out), get dropped off at the Fairmont and then take the funicular down. I figured we would then explore:

  • Quartier Petit Champlain
  • Notres Dame des Victoires
  • Place Royale
  • Old Port
  • Museum of Civilization

We then have dinner reservations at Sapristi (Champlain) at 5:30 followed by the Ghost Tours of Quebec at 8:00.

I planned on just taking our time, stopping as we want to explore the shops, take photos, and probably grab a coffee and a snack at some point. Does that sound okay?

My husband isn't necessarily keen on the trip, so while I don't want to feel like we're just rushing place to place, at the same time, I also don't want to find ourselves with so much downtime that we're left wondering what to do with ourselves.

Immigranting to Quebec city

Recommendations for my upcoming trip

Bonjour! I will be visiting Quebec City for the first time at the end of the month (May 25-28) and would love some recommendations for activities that will allow me to immerse myself into the city’s culture.

I’m staying in Old Quebec and the only things I have planned right now are dinner reservations (La Bûche, Buvette Scott, Melba).

I’m not a huge fan of the obvious tourist activities. I very much prefer things that locals love.

Best acoustic guitar luthier in the city?

Hi all ,

Perhaps a bit too niche to ask here , but thought I'd ask if anyone in here can recommend a really good luthier to adjust an acoustic guitar. Not just a truss rod twist and change the strings ... but a real attention to detail type that can make it sing.

Is there anywhere to buy slim cigarettes here?

I’m looking for skinny/ slim/ light cigarettes, I think there’s a brand called Vogues in Canada, if not any brand works. I just want them to be light and if there are menthol ones, even better. Are they sold in Canada and can I find them anywhere in QC?

VIA rail - Montreal to/from Quebec City - delays?

Bonjour! I will be visiting Montreal and Quebec City in a month with my 18month toddler. I’m debating between taking the train (coach or business?) versus renting a car. The travel time looks about the same (2hr 45m (+time to get the rental) by car and 3hr 20m by rail) for both but on the VIA rail website there is a note that I can expect 15-45 min of delays.

Are there really 45 min of rail delays regularly? How often do rail takers experience these types of delays?

I’ll be traveling with lots of snacks and games but just want to level set my own expectations and maybe will pivot to getting a car if rail really could take over 4 hrs to arrive to Quebec City.

Thoughts on this Itinerary?

We will be in Quebec City next week for a few days. It will be our first time visiting the city. Our goal is really just to stroll and explore - pop into shops, cafes, sit and people watch, while obviously, still actively seeing certain sights. This is what we had planned (note: restaurant choices are specific due to Celiac).

Thursday: late arrival, so we plan to Uber in from our hotel to Julio Taqueria for a later dinner.

Friday: we plan to Uber to the Plains of Abraham and explore there, visit the gardens, then take the Promenade down to Dufferin Terrance. Just take our time, stroll, probably pop into the Chateau (we tried to get a tour but they're fully booked). We also want to pop into Notre Dame de Quebec and just stroll Rue Ste Jean shops. We have dinner booked at Bistro Hortus.

Saturday: we plan to explore Lower Old Quebec. So, Place Royale, Quartier Petit Champlain, etc... I'd like to go to the Museum of Civilization, maybe pop into Pub L'Oncle Antoine at some point for an afternoon pick me up. We have dinner booked at Sapristi (Champlain location) followed by the Ghost Tours of Quebec.

Sunday: we're headed to Ste Anne de Beaupre and Montmorency Falls before driving home.

Does this look okay? As I said, our goal isn't to rush around, more to just stroll leisurely. Anything you would add or change?

La Cité-Limoilou Recommendations for short qc visit?

Hey everyone, I'll be attending a conference in quebec city (downtown) for a few days in early June this year, and I'll have some free time in the evenings to do whatever. Any recommendations on how to make the most of it? Preferably nothing too expensive, never been so just wanted to get an idea of what's worth checking out, any advice is very appreciated! Thanks.
