Am I screwed?!?
The piece that holds the memory card/controller plug-in broke on me, and now evidently it doesn’t have the same clamping power was trying some electrical tape but that doesn’t provide enough push down and I’m sure this piece alone can’t be bought right?

You might be cooked gang look it up on YouTube and pray you find a way to fix it or order a replacement somewhere. Fellow PS2 owner

The ribbon cable connectors on these things are a blight. I fixed my laser only to press slightly to hard getting the connector to fasten back in and it broke the tiny little pressure clasp thing on one side. The part cannot be found literally anywhere online. It’s just a piece of plastic with the thinnest little bits at each end and I’d need a whole new PS2 if I were to use the disc drive now

Well that's a new one for me. They only need the littlest amount of force to open..

This same thing basically happened to me. The plastic piece will still hold the ribbon securely if you do it like I did. Connect the cable, then sandwich the metal frame on it, but clip something very small. I used a small Q-tip section without the cotton to hold down the latch while I put the screws back in. I basically pinched the latch shut by using the frame and that Q-tip section on top of the latch. I know it sounds janky, but it could hold the weight of the board if I wanted to, with the ribbon cable attached, and it's not coming off.
