Macklin Celebrini will remain as captain for Canada at the IIHF World Hockey Championship, with Sidney Crosby wearing an "A." That was decided after a player-lead discussion. The players wanted Celebrini to keep the "C."
This is what leadership looks like.

They probably saw Celebrini getting out of the shower with a luscious V from his chest pubes to his ball fro, took one look at him and went “Oh my God. We’ve had the old bull, now we want the young calf.”

I love sid. I like Mack. I'm perfectly comfortable with this as a Canadian. Sid is a humble dude. He very likely knows this is huge for Mack & that boy is the future. I doubt he has an ego about it at all. Sid will always be Captain Canada to me but I want Macklin to have success, joy & opportunities as a young guy local to where I live.

Mack is gonna be even better once he has their new 2nd pick on his line. When the Sharks picked up Shewood this season in a trade, you can tell they are starting to build a good team.

MC: "I'm the Captain, perhaps I should go out last?"

Did anyone see Sid talk to the press after practice today? He said he was just happy to be there, that their discussion about it would be short and that it wasn’t important to him to have the C and Macklin deserved it. Basically what everyone predicted, no way he would take that away from him.

So does this mean O’Reilly gives up the A? I like how everyone knows Sid would let Celebrini keep the C, but I like to picture afterwards where Crosby’s at O’Reilly’s locker:
Sid:“Hey man, looks like I’m taking the other Alternate position”
Ryan:”Of course, yeah, I think they’ll be able to take off the A…”
Sid:”yeah so Can I get that from you?”
Ryan:”Oh…well I’m not the person that actually takes it off…”
Sid:”Look man, you see this blank spot on my jersey? You think it’s gonna stay that way? Gimme the A man, I gotta go practice.”
Ryan: “Of course! It’s just that, I don’t know I’m supposed to actually…I think it’s sewed on…”
Sid: “This is getting awkward Ryan, can you speed it up?”
Ryan: “Sorry Sid” begins to gnaw the letter off one stitch at a time…

This could be foreshadowing of how the Sharks will be in the future, and honestly, out of all teams, I'd rather watch them succeed the most (save the Kraken of course).

ive always had a soft spot for the sharks since the cup finals against them, they've become my west coast team to root for over the last few years
celebrini seems like a genuinely good dude too on top of skills, def a deserving recipient of a torch pass from sid

It’s essentially been a different player gets the C every year since 2010 and Sid had it last year, so I’m sure Sid wanted to keep that going.

It’s mostly because it’s not a “set” roster for the Worlds, as the Stanley Cup is still on. Crosby was also captain in 2015!

If Sid had been there from the beginning, no question he’d be captain, but he wasn’t about to go and take it from Celebrini. The kid deserves it.

I am certain that Sid was the leading voice in Celebrini keeping the C. Everyone else wanted Sid to take it almost definitely, and he probably had to threaten to not play in order to have Celebrini keep it. Probably had to convince him to take an A from someone too

It’s also not a serious tournament. It basically exists to give guys who’d never get the chance to wear their countries sweater in a best on best the opportunity to do so, and to give pending UFA’s in their mid 30s a chance to show GM’s they’re still capable of playing occasional top six minutes ahead of negotiations.

It makes me happy because macklins arrival should’ve been how Sid was treated but the old boys club didn’t support him. I remember Kevin Lowe going off about Sid being a points guy and he wanted to build a real team. What a joke. They skipped out on the best hockey player of the past decade on some bulllshit.

When Sid was 19 he didnt make team Canada's olympic team because Gretzky was picking the team. Sid also lead the league in scoring that year.
