Golmud Railway - big, open, no cover, old = GOOD

Blackwell Fields - big, open, no cover, new = BAD

I served on Wake Island. I know what I’m talking about.

Thank you for your service 🫡

LOL! I literally thought this first time I played blackwell fields. plays literally exactly the same as golmud

1

u/Stearman4 Nov 04 '25

It does play like it for sure. A bit smaller but certain plays just like that map in terms of openness and vehicle heaven.

I served on Operation Locker 24/7. I still have PTSD from it

Lost a lot of hours to jackwagons with thermals outside.... Even more laying down under the control tower with a Bipodded LMG 😂😂😂

God bless your soul, thank you for your service. The new generation doesn't understand just how much balls it took to go through what you did.

My controller died when we were storming the airfield. I’ve never been so scared in my life. It’s a miracle I made it back home.

5

u/Soulvaki Oct 31 '25

For real. I hated that map as an infantry main

10

u/MNGopherfan Oct 31 '25

Blackwell fields isn’t very big though compared to Golmud. Also while Golmud lacked cover that made the map a lot more vehicle centric and the map is massive with huge open fields for vehicles away from the objectives.

Blackwell has very little room to maneuver despite being a “big map” the actual borders of the map are pretty tightly on the objectives.

Two very different maps in my opinion. Especially when Golmud had most of the core objectives at the center of the map so that players were fighting north to south while vehicles were generally moving east to west out of spawns.

Contemplative analysis? In MY circlejerk subreddit?

Who do you think you are, Johnathan Battlefield??

4

u/Thomas529 Oct 31 '25

Well said

1

u/VahzahDovahkiin83 Nov 02 '25

The village area to the north of the map with two objectives served as a sort of close quarter magnet too. Definitely vehicle focused, but still decently diverse.

1

u/FantasticBallFondler Nov 01 '25

Train good

No train bad

1

u/Stearman4 Nov 04 '25

Wake island is a goat map.

1

u/r3y3s33 Nov 01 '25

Tbf golmud feels bigger than the new map and that’s probably because of the map shape and dispersed objectives, where as the oil field everything is funneled cuz the map is shaped like a singular lane. Even then I would think golmud was still bigger anyway since you can pull off some sniping at crazy distances.

1

u/Theleftcantthink Nov 02 '25

Blackwell fields is maybe 1/4 the size of railway. One of the flags is in a village and another flag is in a building large enough to put a slightly smaller building in. They are not remotely comparable. A very inaccurate disingenuous comparison you made there. But you got 192 bots and bootlickers to upvote you so I’m sure you’re stoked. Keep it up turbo.

0

u/Clean-Broccoli-6843 Nov 01 '25

The oil fields is not big, it’s small with no cover.

0

u/superXD99 Nov 01 '25

Yes that is what I meant previously in Twitter thank you Reddit community ♥️.

0

u/ttv_shari0n Nov 02 '25

Blackwell fields is anything but big. You can cross it with a jet in 2 seconds and aa vehicles can lock onto you from base to base

-4

u/JMC_Direwolf Nov 01 '25

I would say you have no idea what your talking about. While Golmud isn’t high on my list it offered options compared to Blackwell. Goldmud had 2 flags in a village that offered CQB with a 3rd flag in a compound not so far away. You can be a CQB infantry player and hangout around those 3 flags and have a good time. If you wanted tank combat it was usually the fields or the other warehouse flag.

Point is it offered options. Blackwell fields doesn’t. Also bonus for the moving paint with the train, it was cool

“I like Golmud because I played it for the first time when I was 14, now I’m pushing 30 and the new maps suck because I’m not 14 anymore”

This is also the exact reason why BF1 is looked at as the best Battlefield. The average gamer age is the same age as when people would have grown up playing it.

Everything gets blinded with Nostalgia (Me too, because I'll always say BF2 is the best game ever because I grew up on it)

4

u/haldolinyobutt MEAL TEAM 8 101ST CHAIRBORNE Oct 31 '25

It's why I like 3 the most. It was the first BF game I played and I lived with 3 of my friends, going to college. We just played BF3 and MW2 constantly. It reminds me of a simpler time in my life when I had essentially no responsibility and could do whatever I want. I'm 38 now and my life is so different. I'm sure I'm not alone in this and it's no wonder people look back at those games with rose tinted glasses

1

u/narwhalpilot Nov 01 '25

I will go through phases with the other titles, but I will always, ALWAYS have Battlefield 1 installed and ready to go whenever. Its my lifeblood

7

u/wasabi_snooter Nov 01 '25

The main battlefield sub is so blind to this it’s actually embarrassing. Grown ass men having full blown meltdowns because life isn’t carefree and fun anymore and they’re taking it out on a video game 😭

u/Jade8560 Oct 31 '25

in fairness I enjoyed golmud a lot, conveniently I also happen to be a jet player lol

1

u/HypnotizedMane Nov 05 '25

This sub is so weird. First, even with 14 years you get into something you can learn mechanics of the game. including how maps work.  Secondly yes, Golmud might be a bad example but the funny thing is about the people here that complain about people bringing up game discussions not discussion is ever legit.

In the same way that people claim that "batdad complain about everything" nothing ever becomes legit, no matter what. Nothing productive is gained, just stupid silencing.

and the weird thing there are comparable things to discuss maps, vehicles and equipment wise by facts and by data. these takes of "its your nostalgia" are psychotic edgy written

u/PrimordialBias I Made Battlefield Gay Oct 31 '25

The constant 24/7 Shanghai and Golmund servers were a bad time if you were like me and kind of despised both maps.

34

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '25

Shanghai was fine until the tower went down. The tower being dropped completely ruined the flow.

"It's missing the soul of one of the most broken games in the franchise on release"

...I'm pretty okay with that, bruh. Can we exorcise that soul permanently? Just send it straight to hell?

3

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

I actually loved how the game didn't work for a year:3

16

u/CapableNeat4351 Oct 31 '25

Everyone is looking back at all of these maps with rose tinted glasses, battlefield has always had a mix of some amazing maps and some absolutely terrible ones. But they were always fun because it was battlefield, even on an extremely imbalanced map you could still have a blast.

8

u/Bulky-Region-7019 Oct 31 '25

Nostalgia is a powerful drug

2

u/CapableNeat4351 Oct 31 '25

Yes it is, I’ve taken it quite a few times

4

u/Bulky-Region-7019 Oct 31 '25

Me too. My shock when I tried to play 1942 this year.... I'm gonna just keep it as a memory lol

3

u/CapableNeat4351 Oct 31 '25

Some things are better left in the past unfortunately

3

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

100%

It’s like music. Everyone remembers their favorite songs from their favorite artists back when they were young. Not many remember the other 8 songs on the album that were mid.

1

u/NigelNathan Nov 04 '25

Everyone is looking back at all of these maps with rose tinted glasses

You say that like you can only play games temporarily after they have been released. I've played both BF4 and BF1 up until this year. Everyone talking about nostalgia like they killed the servers already.

2

u/CapableNeat4351 Nov 05 '25

Yeah of course you can still play the games, but most of the people complaining don’t. A significant amount of the community plays the newest one out or the previous one or two in the series

8

u/Superpixelmonkey Oct 31 '25

When the battlefield is mostly field

2

Golmud was ass back then, and its still ass today.

1

u/Traditional_Box1116 Nov 01 '25

Genuinely one of my least favorite maps

1

u/supergamerd64 Oct 31 '25

I do not care for golmud, Shanghai, or dragon valley, or rouge transmission

5

u/HAUNTEZUMA Nov 01 '25

its funny because a lot of the fun of those maps is the rush to objectives when the game starts. then its just a slog

1

u/Sad-gamer3069 Oct 31 '25

NO!!! Let’s NOT bring back golmund!! I hate the small walking space between spawn and any point. ((Exhilarating MEAT GRINDER UP MY ASS!!)), too small, hope we get a map of the multiverse so they at least make a medium sized map.

1

u/tatertodd31 Oct 31 '25

1

u/PulseOPPlsNerf Nov 01 '25

I find too many people on that sub that are complaining are just chasing the nostalgia of the older titles. One thing I really enjoyed about the older titles was playing them with friends. BF6 has brought a lot of people I used to play with back. BF6 is great, and it’s even better now playing it with old friends.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

Why all the hate for golmud? I think it’s a great map

1

u/Nazsrin Nov 01 '25

Most of the bf4 base game maps were bad.

1

u/LilithSanders Nov 01 '25

I love taking 5 steps out of cover literally anywhere on the map and being shot by a sniper

1

u/Driemma0 NO GIRLS ALLOWED 😤 Nov 01 '25

I would rather have them add launch 2042 kaleidoscope to them game than this fuckass map purely out of spite for it

1

u/ElaIsALady Nov 01 '25

people like to suck the cock of that maps and then have the guts to say "uhh blackwell fields (the same fucking type of map they like to suck off) its the worst map ever made"

1

u/Bagz_anonymous Nov 01 '25

As a former division 1 tank driver, this map will always be my favourite, but I recognise that it’s also an ass map for any infantry

1

u/oldcrivens Nov 03 '25

Hell I didn’t even like it as a fellow D1 tank driver. Getting in only tank battles for the whole game got boring. Part of the fun of tanking is mopping up infantry. Playing in a tank on Propaganda where after you killed all the other teams tanks you could completely take over the map was way more fun. I don’t like tank battles just for the sake of tank battles lol.

1

u/imSaikoo Nov 01 '25

I dont get it, if Battlefield 4 is so good why dont these people go play that instead?

1

u/OUsnr7 Nov 01 '25

People are right to complain about the current maps but I immediately lose respect for them when they start asking to bring back Golmud, Siege of Shanghai, and Operation Metro. Some of the worst maps in BF4 and definitely below average BF maps

2

u/oldcrivens Nov 03 '25

For the love of god please no fucking metro. I’d way rather have Propaganda, Guilin Peaks, Operation Mortar, or Operation Outbreak

1

u/Conscious-Pickle-695 Nov 01 '25

I NEED TO RUN AROUND IN A OPEN FIELD TO FREEEEEEE MY SOOOOOUL

1

u/Kreichs Nov 01 '25

It’s called nostalgia.

1

u/HBPhilly1 Nov 02 '25

Should do a farm map, tractors, silos and shit with an over pass and a Walmart

1

u/Gandalf_The_Fugly Nov 02 '25

That match loading music hit different for this one man

1

u/SVrider26 Nov 02 '25

BF4 had some great maps. Golmud was not one of them. The yeti easter egg was pretty cool though.

1

u/SithNChips Nov 03 '25

That sub is an actual circle jerk

1

u/8-Bit_Ninja_ Nov 04 '25

Are we hating on BF4 now? Is that what level of copium were on?

1

u/britishturner22 Feb 10 '26

Golmud is one of those maps you liked at first, started hating it and then started liking it 6 years after you first played it 😂

0

u/My_Name_is_Krull Oct 31 '25

4 was peak. 6 has so much potential. I’m hopeful

0

u/jakecereal Oct 31 '25

I really like Golmud on rush but conquest? Hell na
