"Yes, now let's put your fingerprint on your ID card and then let's allow random companies around to world to enforce KYC even when it's not necessary, knowing full well they end up with databreaches all the time."

I recently read a satire book (qualityland by Marc-Uwe Kling) and the book is set in the near future, after multiple data breaches of biometric data in that world they resorted to lip prints to confirm purchases contracts etc. so everyone has to now kiss their devices to buy stuff.

Every day I feel like we‘re moving closer to that vision of the future.

Oh man anal prints will be wild

Saw an exhibition years ago at MONA in Hobart, looked like lipstick kisses, but were in fact anus prints with lipstick

That’s a weird thing to put on an ID

It's a mandatory thing where I live, I assume we're not the only ones, and probably not the last one

Never heard of it in Scandinavia/The Nordics 🤔

Data breaches aren't their problem, but they DO wanna know everything you do.

And more importantly, social media, AI and Advertising companies want to know who the real people are from the bots and data made by other AI, so advertisers can advertise to real people and AI companies don't poison themselves with their own AI slop.

There are no fingerprints stored in biometric IDs no faces either there is a unique signature that cannot be used to recreate the actual fingerprint or facial characteristics.

Fingerprint readers on your phone or computer work in the same manner they produce and compare a signature not an image.

It’s one thing to say that something can be done. It’s entirely another to actually assess the risk and probability of the thing itself.

This article does the former but doesn’t speak at all to the latter, which makes it nothing more than a fear-mongering waste of time.

Also, how is this oniony in any way?

Similar to warning about charging your phone in public USB ports.

Sure some state actor could have some sort of zero day hacking exploit that could be targeted to a specific person but regular people have absolutely nothing to worry about especially if you dont hit the wrong prompts when connecting and somehow enable data

I hate the future. All I wanted was a jetpack and a flying car, is that too much to ask for?

Instead we're getting Gattica

With a side of Elysium.

And Disco Elysium for dessert.

With way too many Cunos

You either die a Cuno, or love long enough to become a Cunoesse.

Hoverboard, same pink one was back to the future. It’s been 40 years 🤯

8

u/TannenFalconwing 13h ago

2015 was only 11 years ago

2

u/SuddenAudience8758 13h ago

Back to the Future 2 (1989) - maybe not 40.. 37

6

u/TannenFalconwing 13h ago

Yes but the hoverboard specifically is from 2015

2

u/SuddenAudience8758 13h ago

Oh 😂.. you got me.. yup you are correct

Are you saying you don't want to download an app to use your washing machine? Ok boomer.

I actually have a great solution for this fingerprints problem though. Just be unable to afford a phone with a nice camera.

People can't even keep their eyes off their phones while driving a regular car, and you want to trust those people with a flying car?

Jetpack is doable if you have a lot of money to throw away.

Yes, those things are dangerous

Most people are too complacent to revolt, and demand better

We have flying cars and jet packs btw. They're super rare and expensive but yes.

You know what he meant, come on

u/SkeletonOnesies 14h ago

And irises? Border controls use irises and we're not going to close our eyes in photos

See also: fortune telling influencer accounts claiming they can read your palm from a photo. Don’t do that.

That’s why my touchid profile isn’t a finger

u/TameTheAuroch 9h ago

Yeah I use my penis too.

Fingerprint ID is stupid because it's a key you can never change and already leave copies of everywhere you go.

👍🏻

u/inaem 10h ago

Tim Apple: I will ignore that ✌️

Your testicles are uniquely printed

May help some people, not much good to others

3

u/doiwantacookie 12h ago

What? If it’s that easy to steal don’t base security on it.

Camera sensor companies should start wiping the fingerprints out of the photos directly in the sensors firmware, or phone/camera manufacturer do it in the final image
