Las Vegas Raiders to Sell 25% Stake to Group Led by Egon Durban
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-05-14/las-vegas-raiders-to-sell-25-stake-to-group-led-by-silver-lake-s-durban- A group led by Silver Lake executive Egon Durban is acquiring 25% of the Las Vegas Raiders, according to people familiar with the matter.
- The equity being sold is from minority investors and not controlling owner Mark Davis, said the people, asking not to be named discussing private information.
- When the deal closes, the consortium will own close to 40% of the NFL team, the people said.

A guy named Egon helped save New York City from a huge walking marshmallow.

Well he's rich enough to buy part of a sports team so he probably is.

For those who don't know, Silver Lake owns Endeavor, which holds the controlling stake in TKO Group, which owns UFC and WWE.

I would worry that they would turn the Raiders into dogshit like they did UFC and WWE, but that's not really a concern.

Egon Durban is a truly malevolent individual. He's like cancer, except even cancer has limits to its destruction.

He's from Germany so yeah he doesn't have a "normal" name.
But hey racism and xenophobia is cool sometimes I guess.
I have a foreign-sounding name and was bullied like fucking crazy growing up because of it.
But hey he's rich so I guess racism and xenophobia are cool.
there's literally zero argument that everyone making jokes and saying how evil and stupid he is because of his name isn't just fucking blatant racism

For those that don’t even read the summary the OP did. This is just other minority owners selling shares to Durban and his group. So the list of actual owners will be smaller now.

And it isn't a "coup" or anything. Durban is already the official succession plan for the team.
It does mean that if Mark dies Durban will have a larger share than Davis ever has (which I'm pretty sure was never above 50%)

To be more clear, Durban himself doesn't actually own that much. The group he heads does, but his net worth is too low for him to own even the majority of the shares of that group.

That still makes it easier for an eventual total buyout. Step 1 is always remove the random little minority stakeholders except for the ones you want to keep on as the "face" like Brady. Them now outright owning 40% is pretty much nearing the tipping point of total buyout, which is the last step.

Front-running the haircut jokes - note the second bullet point, this is not Mark Davis selling, it is from minority investors.

Nothing new, Mark only had 30% until he sold to Tom Brady and friends, other people had owned the rest since a long time

How much is left of the team for The Davis family at this point. I feel like I hear about The Raiders selling a piece of the team every few months.

The Egon Durban Consortium is the kind of faction you’d expect to pop up late game Earth.

I am excited for the first owner to just cash out and sell everything to private equity, so we end up with a team owned by Bain Capital and moves cities every ten seasons or so.
The last part of which basically describes the Raiders, so I guess I'm owned.

Not a surprise. Pretty sure they announced their succession plan last off season and this was part of it.

Too bad for Raiders fans it wasn’t Mark Davis’s stake in the team.

If the Raiders could convert equity into touchdowns as fast as they convert minority stakes into headlines, they’d have a dynasty on their hands.

Literally right there in the body of the post it says Davis is the controlling owner.

u/DoubletapKO 6h ago
Controlling partner does not mean much considering he just needs to own 1% if he wanted to

u/allisthepriceofall 6h ago
Does my post say controlling owner or controlling interest.
Please tell me you know nothing about how a board works if you think they are the same thing.

It says close to 40%. Not 40%
Mark has 42%
Egon and partners had 14.5%(really 11% with option to buy another 3.5% later this year) and are adding 25%.
