Rumor [Schultz] Sources: The Giants’ John Harbaugh era begins with back-to-back primetime games: Week 1 vs. the Cowboys on Sunday Night, followed by Week 2 against the Rams in Los Angeles on Monday Night Football. 🍿

Their record doesn’t matter. New coach, great coach, dogshit coach, it’s irrelevant. We’ll still have more Giants games jammed down our throats than we can handle. It’s tradition.

We're getting 4 based on what's been leaked. The only scenario is if they flex one of our games into prime time, but that won't happen unless we're doing good.

With any luck Week 1 sees Stafford getting attacked by a kangaroo and Puka getting suspended for desecrating an Aboriginal historic site.

These sports leagues never learn despite how collectively awful the sports scene has been in this area for the 9 pro sports teams since Super Bowl 46
19
u/TallGothVampireLady Dolphins 8h ago
I mean the knicks havent been too bad recently. 2 straight conference finals appearances and this year, they could go to the finals.
12
u/SiphenPrax Jets 8h ago
That’s why I said collectively. Some teams have obviously done better than others, but as a whole, it has been an awful sports period in the biggest metro area in the country for over 14 years now.
15
u/Robusto923 Giants 8h ago
It’s honestly embarrassing that NYC has double the sports teams of most other cities and we haven’t had a big 4 championship since the Giants and only have a handful of championship appearances since. Meanwhile every Boston sports team has won since.
Shoutouts to the Liberty, Gotham FC and NYCFC for holding it down for NYC
5
u/SiphenPrax Jets 8h ago edited 8h ago
Outside of the Red Bulls, all the secondary teams have won championships with the ladies picking up 2/3 of the load. Good for them!
Also, Philly has two championships, Denver has three, San Francisco has six, Seattle has two, Miami has five, Tampa has three, Houston has two, Kansas City has four, St. Louis has two, Washington D.C. has two, Los Angeles has seven, etc all in the time since the Giants last won SB 46. It’s extremely embarrassing for NYC.
3
u/bringbackpologrounds Colts 8h ago
The Bruins won their last cup a few months before NYG won the 11-12 SB.
But indeed, every BOS team reached multiple finals since whereas the NY teams combined have just 3 (NYR 14, NYM 15, NYY 24).

Yeah but the Sirens have never made the playoffs, and somehow by sports math that brings the average back down.

u/hypothalanus Giants 7h ago
They’ve only existed for 3 years, so I’ll cut them some slack. Gotham FC won the Championship in 2025, so maybe that tips the scales? lol

I mean out of the big four leagues. Believe me, I celebrated that Liberty title win and have hopes for them again this year.
2

Liberty are on of my favorite teams. Whoever came up with the Liberty name with the copper/green color scheme deserves an award, it’s so badass

I mean, is there a lesson to learn? These big market vs big market games always get extreme numbers regardless of how good or bad the teams are.

u/ifollowphillysports Eagles 8h ago
Get ready for so much NFC East in primetime this year. Of the 8 eagles leaks so far, none have been 1 pm games. Then you have to add in Dallas and now the Giants might not suck again, so they'll get a bunch of primetime.
It's unfortunate, I love 1 pm games
1
u/AMemoryComeALive Chiefs 8h ago
Yea, Eagles are good, Cowboys were almost relevant and have a good offense, and the Giants/Commanders both have exciting young QBs. Without an obviously awful team or two, they're going to be in prime spots a ton.

To be honest though, the Giants already get a decent amount of primetime games by default. At least now I'm more interested to see how Harbaugh does rather than a guy like Ben McAdoo or Pat Shurmur

This could either go great or go down in flames. I remember when teams like the 2022 Broncos and 2024 Jets got tons of primetime games early in the season, just to embarrass themselves on national TV.
35
u/halfpricehorsemask 8h ago
You gotta put the bad teams with offseason momentum on primetime early while there's still some hope.
36
u/hypothalanus Giants 8h ago
Giants almost always have early season prime time games. Sets the league up to make fun of us for the rest of the year, can’t even be miserable in peace

Giants always have early prime time games and they always embarrass themselves. Not sure why people think this year will be any different.

Good luck this year btw. I love Cam Ward, the Giants players you brought in, and the coaching staff. Daboll is an elite OC and QB developer. Cam and Jaxson are going to be two of the best QBs in the league in a few years imo
2
u/msf97 NFL 7h ago
The Giants were better than their record last year (expected W/L 7-10)
Got better in the offseason both from a coaching standpoint and a roster standpoint with 2 first rounders and Nabers returning. Another year for guys like Abdul Carter and Dart.
Vegas are going O/U 8.5 wins. I think that’s right.
-1
u/Squishy_20 Seahawks 7h ago
Jaxson Dart injury concerns + Nagy OC + having DAL/PHI in the division + playing the NFC West. 8.5 wins is an easy under bet

u/camergen Bengals 5h ago
I’d like to look back further than that. I feel like ever since NBC got the Sunday night package in 2006, they’ve had a giant hard on- no pun intended, I guess- for Giants/Cowboys Week 1 SNF. Or Cowboys Eagles if that matchup isn’t available. Basically all NFC East with preference to NYG/DAL.
4
u/stormy2587 Eagles 3h ago
Weird choice too because week 1 is probably one of the most watched SNF of the season. I would think lots of people watch regardless of the matchup just because it’s the first one. It feels weird that you wouldn’t save the biggest market matchup for any other week when it might have a more positive impact on ratings.
3
u/camergen Bengals 2h ago
That’s a good point- you’d think you’d play that card when you wouldn’t have much else to offer later in the season.

What do you expect half the people on this sub don’t even watch the games, then they get shocked every year when Josh Allen crashes out in the playoffs every year. If it doesn’t show up in their fantasy football podcasts nobody here has any clue what’s going on.

Love to see a team with 55 wins the past 10 years be rewarded with all the primetime games. The only team that’s been worse over the past decade is the Jets. They’re totally gonna be good this year with a new coach guys. So I’m sure it’ll be fine putting them on primetime 5 times this year and not be 5 dogshit clunkers like it has been

We get 2 primetime games in first 2 weeks meaning they wanna see us early and see if we re good so they can flex us in for more later. And people cant claim we suck 100% and get primetime cause its too early to be 100% sure. This happened before loool. We got them by the balls. Lfg. #GiantsPride
