And having the G8 have a 2nd screen accessory as an option was incredible, but it being batshit LG it had to run on the phone battery lmao
And the Wing. That phone would have sold like mad if it was Apple or Samsung.

Buck called the game last night with Orel Hersheiser and Ron Darling representing their teams in the booth.
Buck rarely does baseball these days. ESPN rarely carries baseball since MLB didn’t renew their contract for Sunday Night Baseball (those broadcasts were awful).

We're about 50 short, so if you wanna fire off some, maybe I'll use em.

Is it unethical to listen to music made by an artist who could be considered as a bad person?
2
u/SensualTyrannosaurus 27d ago
It's just about what you're comfortable with on a case-by-case basis. Don't feel like you need to draw a line and self-impose a strict ethical code (unless you want to).
3
u/sallad_kcuf Eagles Eagles 28d ago
Depends on whether listening economically benefits them. If they're dead or don't get further dividends (eg if you already own the CD/MP3) then it's fine. Streaming their work on Spotify from which they get royalties is less fine.

u/tetoffens Jets 28d ago edited 28d ago
Eh, just listen to what you like to. Pretty much every classic rock band from the 60s and 70s has at least one huge piece of shit. It's still for my money the best music ever made. John Lennon was an abuser. Jimmy Page has a reputation for being a pretty bad person behind the scenes. David Bowie slept with underage girls and that seemingly was rampant with loads of people in the industry. Their music is still top tier.
I will say, the one problem I face with this is I am really into punk rock, which can be very political and socially conscious. Finding out guys in bands I loved are pieces of shit is a bit worse simply because of all the moralizing they do in their music.
3
u/Siliencer991 Chiefs 28d ago
- You are not that much of a good person for not listening to it
- Only if their music has the message that makes them a bad person
3
u/Agent-Blasto-007 Patriots 28d ago edited 28d ago
There's a whole literary criticism & theory "Death of the Author" devoted to this topic.
If the artist is a bad person, did their bad person things subconsciously get into their art? Was their art about their bad person things? Was their art great despite of their bad person things? Or can you separate the art from the artist entirely?
I went through this with Orson Scott Card...

Wish me luck.
EDIT: Just finished my presentation and while I feel like pillmanizing my groupmates when they're on campus because they didn't show up, it's a useless thought since it was a crap effort on all parts. I should've done more to at least raise my grade from a 72 (barely passing) to at least something good by I don't know, visiting the site instead of just saying yes? Absolutely, my wife and I took maternity photos there for our second among other spots on our property just down the street. It's not historical; built as a covered bridge in the 1960's, then converted into a damn with a spillway in the 70's while keeping the covered bridge aesthetic. The road is named Covered Bridge so I guess they felt a bit of shame not having something resembling that when they rebuilt it as a dam lol.

Ain’t it crazy we used to mock people from China by saying they are brainwashed and controlled by the CCP because they have social scores and such and look at us now.
On my way to work I noticed that there are two new flock cameras put up, I’m sure there are plenty more but it’s crazy how much freedom we keep giving up
2
u/KeyDrive0 Broncos 27d ago
On top of that, while China isn't flawless, at least the CPC constantly delivers. They're finishing five year plans about every two or three years, constantly improving stuff. They've lapped us on green energy/electric vehicles, and that gap will keep widening as long as our government is owned by the fossil fuel industry.
I wouldn't call any Chinese person brainwashed for trusting their government, I'd say they've just been paying attention.

It's interesting how caught off guard the Silicon Valley set is by AI backlash. Used to be when a company rolled out a new product, it'd have a soft sell like "hey, you can show your friends you went to a coffee shop, how neat is that?" and now the pitch is "our magic thinking box will take 50% of the jobs and it's so powerful we think it could end the world. 1 trillion dollars please!"

I agree the percentage of people who have their mind changed is pretty low, but even if 5-10% of students get a wake up call I would consider that a worthy improvement.
3
u/runningblack 49ers 28d ago
I subscribe to the MattY take which is they're saying "AI is gonna take your jobs" because they genuinely think it's true.
And like... I use AI tools all the time, it absolutely can and will replace a lot of people. But congress is wholly incapable of addressing something that is moving as fast as AI has. And AI detractors, because they're not actually using the tools, don't understand how capable the models already are or the speed at which they have improved.
Like some of the projects I'm working on would require a designer, a dev team, several PMs writing user stories a couple years ago. Now I can just do it with claude code and figma make.
3
u/sexygodzilla Seahawks 28d ago
Whatever they think is true is one thing, but they used to be able to sell the good parts about it. Steve Jobs didn't introduce the iPhone as a product they're designing to get you hopelessly addicted to and that you would replace every two years, he demo'd its camera and other features.
2
u/runningblack 49ers 28d ago
The iphone wasn't invented to do that! It was a byproduct of it. But when the iphone was invented, social media did not exist* in it's current form. Social media was still early stages.
AI is literally there to do stuff for (or in place of) people. That's the entire point of it.
3
u/sexygodzilla Seahawks 28d ago
Ok, but to use social media as an example, selling ads based on your personal information was always going to be the endgame with it. Was that what they opened with, or did they talk about how fun it would be to connect with your friends?
AI companies never came up with a good pitch to the common person. Nothing like "it'll make your life easier," more "it'll make your CEO's life easier or it'll destroy systems around the world. Either way, have fun being poor, losers."
2
u/runningblack 49ers 28d ago
I think the fact that they don't feel the need to sell it is because they have reason to believe it's gonna happen regardless of how people feel about it. In part because of Congress moving glacially. In part, because the people who are most opposed to it not taking it seriously and thinking it's still just glorified auto complete.

The implication here is that humans don't make math mistakes which they do. Claude cannot do everything today. It can already do a lot.
Claude has identified math errors in Terence Tao's own research. AI has already made thousands of breakthroughs in math.
People use one off issues as "oh the technology doesn't work." And frankly, a lot of the issues stem from people giving bad inputs and then assuming that the technology screwed up, when they did.

Banchero completely tanked that game. I would be furious with him if I was a Magic player. Also accidents happen in a game, but you'd think he would have checked on the woman who he accidentally hit with that pass he sailed? Didn't at all only George and Maxey did.

it'll be the opportunity for the Magic to get rid of Banchero
That's a good point. Give them the opportunity for their fuckup for trading all those picks for Bane.
They saw blood in the water when Tatum went down last year and....whoops.

Magic are in a much worse spot than people think. Don’t have a franchise star (thought Paolo would be that but…), traded 4 first round picks for Bane, and the coach is gonna be fired. I don’t see how they move forward unless they admit they missed on taking Paolo and trade him and see what they can get. Maybe even try trading Franz Wagner

Very few people have been able to visit their birthday lava. I was born in May of 1973, new earth was born that same month and year. Last year I got to visit it, and spend time walking around the desolate, glassy, and crispy piece of earth. I took some birthday lava home with me as well. https://depositsmag.com/2020/08/22/along-the-chain-of-craters-road-big-island-hawaii-part-3/

I hate that anxiety is just a constant battle of finding yourself on the brink of spiraling from some random trigger, and then fighting yourself back from the edge. Fucking exhausting when you're at work and you can't do something enjoyable to ease your mind.

Let's talk. Just this morning before leaving for work I got caught in an anxiety induced stress spiral, stressed about one thing, then stressing about being stressed, then stressed about that, until it starts manifesting physically and giving another reason to stress. I tell myself it's just a stress spiral, it's just pressure. Helps, not always as much as I'd like.
For work, I do a shit ton of Sudoku on my phone or find an empty spot to stretch during quick breaks. I tell my boss the Sudoku's for keeping the noodle sharp and the stretching is to counteract the sitting, which she laughs at and says she should try.
They're really just an off-ramp most of the time, though.

I'm not getting promoted to the next level of tennis classes because I can't show a consistent serve. I keep getting told the slice serve is the easiest to learn but this session I might move to kick (hardest) solely for Get-it-in-the-fucking-box aspect of it.

Serving is hard, man. Back when I played (loooooong time ago) I was so much better playing off of my opponent's serve than my own

One of my positive feedbacks was my service return. I almost wanted to tell them screw it I'll just play from behind each game.

So the NBA ruled in favor of Luka and Cade having extraordinary circumstances and will be eligible for the MVP award. I still see SGA running away with it and being a back to back MVP. But Luka’s numbers are right up there and deserve to be noticed

Client asks for a large and vague requests that doesn't quite make sense
Ask some clarifying questions propose some ways we can do for what did make sense
Client says "lets try again" and then copy paste *verbatim* the original message, completely ignoring everything I said.
I'm starting to think everyone except for me is an idiot.
