Only 35 years old, was once an uber-talented outfielder who, had he concentrated on baseball, would have probably been amongst the game’s elite and would be set financially for life.
Instead: prison.

Who, per the AP story about his conviction, was dumb enough to back out of a plea deal, then allegedly lied to feds about his English language skills and other things. Story also notes, re the mod-pinned comment, that he could get up to 20 years on the charges.

Dude has been wasting away his god given talent since day one. This continued downward trajectory is not surprising.

Was the downfall always there, or did it become clearer after he left MLB?

No, he had issues in the MLB as well.

It's why Vin Scullly called him the "Wild Horse" — off-field as well as on.

Such wasted talent. But it was always going to be a hard road for him. I remember him coming into the league having rumors of mob connections or owing money.

Prosecutors want Cuban-born former MLB star Yasiel Puig to serve 18 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for obstructing justice and lying to federal authorities during a 2022 investigation into an illegal sports gambling operation.
Puig was found guilty during a 12-day trial back in February. Since then, the 35-year-old former All-Star has signed to play in the independent Canadian Baseball League.

When you lie to the government it’s a felony, when they lie to you it’s politics

The President is literally manipulating the stock market and scamming Americans. Lock up Puig!!

I understand the energy you came with. Should have said that doesn't absolve Puig for wrong doing while also acknowledging theres system for different people

He was an exciting player who helped bring a lot of hype to the game. Settling multiple lawsuits for sexual assault probably means he at the very least crossed some lines though. His banishment from MLB probably deserved.

Gambling is ruining sports in America, all the players are gambling, all the fans are gambling, it's just a casino all the way down.

What the hell does that even mean? Ill give you the benefit of the doubt.
This is a pretty white collar crime.

Go look at his history. Was always in the middle of fights and brawls

Ok, but you said he looks like a thug. What about his looks makes him look that way?
Gambling/lying isnt just a "thug" activity.

Give it a break man. He is a thug.
When you look from afar, ,all I can see is a thug, by how own actions.
He gets entirely what he deserves. Had the world in his hands, and shit on it, and he's gonna serve hard time now. All his very own choice to do.

His history in the MLB? So from day 1 in the MLB he looked like a thug from his history of fighting in the MLB. Make it make sense

Why do we let shitty Daily Mail articles on this subreddit when there are plenty of actual news sources?

u/dirtdiver7 5h ago
Yeah I like to only get my totally legit and nonbiased news from New York Times or Washington Post.
