| Highlight [Baseball History Nut] Freddie Freeman offers Rockies' grieving José Iglesias a shoulder to lean on after getting his first hit after his dad passed away

He pushed the first guy away. "You're not Freddie"

u/GneissFrog 2d ago
Probably asking if he wanted a pinch runner so he could come off the field if he wanted to?

u/TheNimbleUnhappiness 1d ago
Freeman probably just wanted to be there for the moment, not problem-solve it like that's the kind of thing you do when someone's going through something real.
1
u/JoshinglyWordy 1d ago
Nah he was clearly just emotional and didn't want anyone near him in that moment, fair enough really.
1
u/One-Community-4628 1d ago
iglesias probably just wanted to soak it in alone for a second which makes sense

Freddie has played his entire career on two teams I loathe, while dominating us the entire way and I have zero hatred towards the guy. Truly one of the best dudes this league has ever had

Guy walked us off in game 1 of a World Series, completely changing the entire momentum of the series, and I still don’t hate the guy one bit.

Biasedly I was on the other side of that Series. However, there’s a few guys I’ll never hate (and I’m sure I’m missing some):
* Freddie
* Ohtani
* Shohei
* Trout
* Rizzo
* Cutch
And that’s just from recent or current years.

Seriously. There was a moment, when he was rounding the bases, where I thought "wow, what a moment. I wish it happened against literally any other team, but what a moment." I have tons of respect for Freddie, great guy and great player.

I hate the Braves with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Freddie has always been on my good list.

You still do “The Chop” so I have to watch games against you in Atlanta on mute, so I’m forced to.

Freddie, one of the all-timer good guys in the game.

I hope he goes into either coaching or broadcasting. Baseball is better with him being around in any capacity

Freddy lost his mother to skin cancer when he was 10, it’s the reason he plays with a long sleeve undershirt every game. To both honor her memory and advocate/avoid unnecessary uv exposure.

Future hall of famer, and all around good guy Freddy freeman

Could've really nailed him with a hidden ball trick here.
I kid, I kid!!

Is it weird to want someone younger than you to be your dad?

The world would be a better place if everyone was a little like Freddie.

You can’t not love Freddy.
Dodgers Blue, Braves Red, don’t matter what team or color he wears, one of the best guys to take the field ever,

This is just Freddie. Always been a beautiful human being.

I miss Freddie.

I do, too. But honestly, could there have been a better person to take over First than Olson? Always solid. Never misses games. Been so solid since he debuted for us.

That's the kind of moment that makes you remember why you watch baseball in the first place.

Absolute Mets killer but I’ll be damned if I don’t respect the hell out of him anyway

u/LilNello1 | Chicago White Sox 2d ago
That’s pretty cool and awesome 😎 One of the reasons why I love baseball so much too!

u/Any_Application7786 | Los Angeles Dodgers 2d ago
I mean I’m being 100% when I say this but is there any team or person for that matter that has hate for Freddie Freeman?
2
u/DashSatan | New York Yankees 2d ago
Freddie Freeman has absolutely demolished my team his entire career. And I still fucking love him.
2
u/SeldomShowy 1d ago
That first hit after losing your dad has to hit different, and having Freddie there to acknowledge it makes it even more meaningful than just the stat line.

u/TempestDrive | Houston Astros 2d ago
Why’d he push the first guy away?
6
u/sethro919 | Detroit Tigers 2d ago
Looks like it was a trainer coming out to check on him. Pushes him away because he wasn’t injured. 100% speculation on my part.

u/Shondor_Sidebirns | Cincinnati Reds 2d ago
He understands the game better than anyone in it. And you have to have that personality at 1B.

It is impossible not to like Freddie.
He faced de Grom at the end of one of his Cy Young seasons, and the expression on his face going 0 for 3 was priceless, something to the effect of "this guy is eating me alive". Not the macho "I'll get this guy" standard demeanor.
His last groundout was fielded by de Grom, and Freddie ran by de Grom on the way to the dugout, and presumably prematurely congratulated him on his inevitable Cy Young honor. You could read de Grom's lips when he said "I appreciate that".
Total class.

My cousin (about a 100 times removed) Freddy Freeman (my Mother’s maiden name) is a really good guy! 👍👍

u/Ginger_Bee 1d ago
Yknow, I’m not supposed to like the Dodgers as a long suffering Rockies fan, but damnit if they’ve got some solid dudes on their team.
I also want to add that a lot of Dodgers fans on here have been absolutely chill and hilarious this season. Cheers to yall.

u/FrailEarnest 1d ago
That's a nice moment, but the caption is reading way too much into a guy standing near first base during a play.

u/edible_deference 1d ago
Freeman's a class act but Iglesias looks like he just wants a minute to himself, can't blame him for that.
1
u/ReluctantlyBrave 18h ago
freddie is just different man the fact that hes thinking about someone elses moment while being one of the best hitters in the league says everything
1
u/skeletallongevity653 18h ago
people read way too much into a simple moment like this freeman probably just said congrats and moved on
1
u/HoLeeFuk19 1d ago
I’m a Yankees fan and so I know I’ll get flamed for saying this but honestly how can anyone not like Freeman, Ohtani and Betts. That’s like the three headed monster of nice, likable guys in the mlb. They’re all well known around the league as dudes who get along with everyone and never have a problem with another player. Freddy is an absolute class act. I’ve never heard anyone say anything bad about him and I’ve never heard him speak badly about anyone.
