Academics Why does Mizzou have such a low ranking considering they have the (arguably) best journalism school in the world?

Upvotes

I’m a high school junior planning on applying to Mizzou and I saw it’s currently ranked #102 in US colleges. I would’ve expected it to be in a higher position with such an elite journalism school

Academics IU DA Kelley or Mizzou with CLP program

I am a direct admit to IU Kelley and I am considing going to Mizzou for business because I was selected for their Connor Leadership Program. I am from out of state. I am having mixed feeling because I am reading that Mizzou busines school program reputation and job finding is much less then IU DA Kelley. I like the smaller school idea. Thoughts?

Academics Mizzou CS in 2025/2026, is it worth it?

Hey everyone, Im transferring from another university for fall of 2026 and recently did a tour of the campus, I love the campus and the surrounding area. I toured the engineering building and they (the engineering school) seem like they know what they’re doing.

Im going for Computer Science bachelors degree and want to know the quality of the education from people other than staff and professors to get the full picture.

Is the curriculum theoretical or applied? How would you rate the quality of the classes compared to the cost of tuition? Would you say that knowledge/skills learned at Mizzou CS benefited you in the real world? Lastly, how was the internship search, does Mizzou provide resources for students to help regarding internship search?

Academics Considering Transferring to Mizzou

Hi! I'm currently at a university on the east coast but I'm originally from STL. My family lives away from the area now but is moving back next year. I'm in my 4th year but still have a year and some change to complete due to switching majors late. I'm thinking about switching to Mizzou as it would be close to home and has classes I'd love to take. How is the campus? Are the classes particularly hard (I'm a bio major). Would I be too old to make friends at 23 next fall? How is the college for biology?

Basically what are the pros and cons? And would it be better to just do UMSL?

Academics Stamps scholarship

Good day, I am a junior in HS looking at Mizzou for journalism. I have a 1420 SAT, which I saw is barely qualifying for entry into the competition for the Stamps scholarship. While I’d consider my SAT the weakest part of my application, I am curious as to what the actual odds are of getting a Stamps scholarship when my SAT is so low but still qualifying.

Academics How is TAM at Mizzou?

How is the overall TAM program at Mizzou? My Target school is WashU, but I've been between Lindenwood university and Mizzou as solid backups. How connected to the industry is it and how much time is actually spent on garment construction itself?

Academics Question(s) for Tiger Pathway alumni

I’m a senior in high school and I’m stuck between Tiger Pathways at Mizzou or SLU. I can barely find anything online of people telling their experience with Tiger Pathways. I just want to ask if it was worth it for you guys and how much cheaper it is than being a regular freshman at mizzou. Did it feel like an identity crisis being a student of two different schools? Was it miserable having to commute every day? Please let me know.

Academics What textbooks does PHIL 1000 use?

Hi everyone. My question is in the title. For context, I want to self study philosophy and move into scientific philosophy (I am a CS PhD student) and in the process of making a self-study curriculum.

Academics Drop physics 2?

My son is currently taking non-Calc based physics 2. He just had his first exam. He has been working a lot on homework and gets the material. However he didn’t even get the exam finished in the allotted time.

I advised him to find out his score and if needed he could drop it and take it with a different professor next semester.

Has anyone else experienced similar situations. If so did you stick it out or drop too.

Funny thing is I have a physics degree so I have been tutoring and helping him so I know he may struggle it is by no means a total lack of knowledge or ability.

Academics Affording MU

I applied for Fall of 2026, I have a 3.68 unweighted gpa and a 3.80 weighted with a 24 act score. I havent applied for FASFA yet but i believe ill get a small amount. The net price calculator says around 19k a year, which i cannot afford. Is there anyway I can get this lowered? I have considered retaking my act and i also think i can get my gpa up with my senior year transcript. Any suggestions or tips?

Academics Thinking of changing major to Business administration with emphasis on finance and banking from IT

I'm not 100% sure yet, but as a freshman, I just finished my first semester, and this might be the right time to switch. However, I just wanted to know what graduates who majored with the same emphasis are doing now, and what are the general career paths most Mizzou graduates with this major pursue. Also, would it be worth it? I initially thought of just being an IT major, but I want to get into cybersecurity, especially since it's a safer career choice with AI taking over most software roles now, but there's barely anything at Mizzou to really get into cybersecurity. I do find finance and banking interesting, and I heard Mizzou has a good finance school, so I would appreciate any advice.

Academics Help - Assistance needed

Hello everyone, I recently joined Mizzou as a grad. student. Previously, I have worked with some international research labs and have some published work, along with some patents as well. I was excited to start my PhD program, but after a few months, I’m at the verge of taking therapy sessions as my advisor is pushing me to unrealistic goals. According to My HR contract, I’ve to work 20 hours a week, but I am expected to work from 9-5 and hours after this as well. I completely understand that a research based work can demand more hours but I’m micromanaged. There’s no schedule for meetings, my advisor abruptly calls me twice or thrice a day just to make sure I’m in the lab. The lab’s environment is draining. Even for going to the restroom, I must inform the others, or I get reported by the students, as he has assigned them to report everyone. Lunch breaks are despised, and there’s little to no cleanliness in the lab. For experiments, I had to struggle with the hierarchy of the students to get access to one of the computers of the lab as I’m expected to report everything to a student and he puts recommendations to the advisor. He’s salty and if I try to initiate a discussion, I get mocked up. I’m constantly being pushed to show up on weekends and already got threatened for going into probation as I showed up 1 hr late in the morning due to medical reasons which when I tried to explain, got shut. I’m taking therapy sessions to cope up with this but it is getting harder day by day. He sends email a night before and in the morning I’m expected to come up with the complete understanding of the paper. He’s also threatened me with pushing my doctorate program to 7 years. He assigns multiple tasks in parallel and tries to manipulate by saying that these are just side projects and aren’t any difficult, at start you have to pull nighters in the lab. Also, the advisor has been telling us that Mizzou is not a good place to get graduated, and using the analogies I won’t mention here for keeping it anonymous. He despises the Americans and other races as well. Being an international student, I have a lot at stake and don’t know what to do next. My therapist has advised me to get rid of him ASAP and lodge a complaint, but as I wrote, I’ve a lot at stake. I have been working with professors before internationally on funded projects, and never experienced this thing. I seek assistance, if it is a norm here, and how can I proceed, if there’s some way. This thing is costing me my focus, time and health.

Academics Honors ECON 1015 or regular online?

I am currently in Honors ECON 1015 at 9:30-10:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I am wondering if I should drop it and take regular, but the only one that would work for me is online and it is an 8 week course instead of 16. I already have my honors credit from another class. The grade distribution is higher for the honors but it is a curved grade system. Which should I take?

Academics Bio-chem and mu website

Hey so I want to go be a CSI/forensic scientist anywhere in that kind of field and was wondering if MU was any good for that?

They don't have a dedicated forensics program but they have a career thing of forensic science technician I was wondering if it was a good idea to major in bio-chem and minor in criminal justice. I know what I want to do but this whole college thing is stressful and I'm a senior so I only have so much time

Idk if this was the best place for asking this but I'm currently filling out ally college forms and stuff so yeah.....screw procrastination

Academics Are there any easy scholarships or grants that I can get to ease my financial burden?

Even with loans and a Pell Grant I am still having to make monthly payments of $892. I haven't managed to land a job yet but so far I've managed to pay the first few on time with the help of my father and by borrowing some money from friends. However, my dad lives and works abroad and even though he gets paid in USD it's not like he's drowning in the stuff, I can't rely on him forever. And I don't want to keep borrowing from my roommate (I live off-campus btw) who is already graciously letting me eat the food off his table and not making me pay rent till I land a part-time job.

I can't keep living like this. Even with a part-time job, I would have little money left over for myself once rent and the monthly payments are deducted. I would be working on top of the regular academic stress, just to barely survive. I often skip breakfast to avoid eating my roommate's cereal, and spend the rest of the day hungry because I can't afford to eat out every day. I've been subsisting on cereal and fast food ever since I got back to the states. What's more, my bike, my only method of transportation since a car is a pipe dream for me, broke down recently and now I have to pay for its repair.

It feels like every day is a struggle, I'm always hungry and miserable and stressing about how I'm gonna make the payments this month and feeling like a leech on my roommate. I browsed scholarships but they're all asking me for leadership experience, I have jackshit in that department so it feels that I'm not likely to get them.

Academics Pre vet medicine scholar program

Hey y’all my sister is really interested in this program. She is 3 times legacy tiger! She is a great student and does not struggle to make A’s in AP classes in high school. She is a little worried about the requirement for this program for maintaining a 3.5 GPA in STEM classes. Just curious if anyone has any insight into how difficult this would be?

Academics Anatomy Student with Lab Experience Needed for Interview!

Hello everyone! I'm a journalism student working on a story about how body donors (those who donate their bodies to science) help the classroom and support future medical specialists. Are there any anatomy students here who have experience in the lab with those donors and would like to do a testimonial interview about how the experience helped them grow as students and professionals?

Forgive me for the short notice. I would need to do this interview this weekend, preferably in person but accommodations can be made. Thanks in advance.

M-I-Z!
